This video truly reveals what I think is an amazing Aurifil thread tip! I just discovered this tip yesterday after all these years of quilting! I just simply didn't know! Amazing!

Omgoodness! Um no I did not know the bottom popped off. That’s game changing 🤣🤣🤦♀️🤦♀️🤦♀️. Why has nobody ever told that before?!? Seriously. Why is that not common knowledge. There should be directions or something. All these years of fighting and trying to get the thread start. Lol. Well I sincerely thank you for being the one person on this earth that is willing to share!!! Hugs

I’ve never taken the end completely off but loosened it enough to find the end of the thread. It’s always nice to mention tips because it’s interesting how many things we believe we should know by this stage of quilting or life in general, but don’t! There should be a book…

I knew because the only thread I used for what seemed a million years Guterman used to have a twist off bottom so I tried my first aurifil and it worked. Started quilting 2yrs ago. Quality items in the world usually have "make sense" qualities.

I've only been quilting for about 2 1/2 years, I started quilting to save my sanity during the early lockdown, and started using Aurifiil thread early on. I was almost ready to give up using it because of not knowing how to find the thread end. A friend showed me the same tip you demonstrated. A game changer! Did you also know the same trick can be used to keep your loose thread end tight against the spool so it doesn't tangle? Just loosen that bottom cap a bit and slide a bit of the thread end across inside the cap and pop the cap tight again. No more tangled messes in the thread drawer!
@thesimplequilter74992 жыл бұрын
Yes I knew that but only because a subscriber mentioned it earlier! You are right! A real game changer!!

@maureentaphouse5206 Жыл бұрын
and the quality of her tutorials is superb. This is how all long armers decide which colour thread to quilt with. The answer is sometimes surprising as a slightly sludgy yellowish green( celery in Glide) blends in with so many colours. It used to be one of Jamie Wallen's go to shades. Angela Walters's was a Lemon Ice a very soft yellow . @@dcwatashi
@dcwatashi Жыл бұрын
@@maureentaphouse5206 I just ordered a whole bunch of glide thread but I did not get the celery green. Oh well maybe next time
@maureentaphouse5206 Жыл бұрын
just get a big selection in the spools which aren't expensive that way you can see which colours suit your needs. I use cones of Linen, Bone, cream, Thyme, cool grey 6 and lemon ice but I have a big selection of the smaller ones too. You really have to do Donna's method of spooling some thread over different fabrics in the quilt to see what you like. I'm not one who likes a deep contrast as even on my longarm it shows up any jerks or tension issues and always the same colour top and bottom. Hope that is helpful. @@dcwatashi

Thank you for this fantastic tip!!! Aurifil should put a hint/instruction paper to show us how to find the thread. At least for us amateurs. I also just discovered that the beginning of the thread for Coats and Clark thread is under the paper and by the little slit in the plastic spool. Go figure.

@@thesimplequilter7499 I don’t usually pull the bottom all the way off, just twist it enough to get the thread. I learned the trick of laying the thread on the quilt from my longarm quilter. Your binding on the quilt you showed is so neat front and back, I can never get my machine stitched binding evenly stitched on both sides, so I make sure the front is nice and try not to worry about the back.
