Today we'll visit a garden where an awesome fig tree is growing. We'll find that it's cold hardy for our area and it doesn't mind out limestone soil. We'll discuss the low water needs and whether pruning is necessary. I hope to persuade you all that everyone needs a fig tree on their property.

I have a fig tree called “little miss figgy” it’s two years old, I planted it in a large pot- I plan to put it in the ground at some point. It was purchased at Lowes.

That's a good one too! It will stay small which could be a good option for those with less space.

I also have miss figgy. It’s been 4 years since I planted her in the ground. She survived two freezes in south east Texas. She did dye back, I trimmed the dead branches off and she is currently taller than my 6 ft fence and loaded with figs. I did provide some winter protection, like a frost cloth and heavy mulching.

This is such an interesting video! You make me want at least one fig tree in my yard. Would you tell us more about how to propagate from a branch? Thank you for your bubbly personality. You surely love gardening because it shows in your enthusiasm for whatever you are demonstrating.

I have three "Texas Everbearing" trees. Two of them are two years old, and the other is three. I'm hopeful that maybe I'll get one or two figs next year. I also have a couple young pomegranate trees that are doing well. One of them put on a few flowers this year, though no fruit set. I love how effectively gardening teaches patience. Lol

Such a pretty tree! I love the smell of fig trees, remind me of my grandma's backyard. We have one in this house but the squirrels keep eating them all! And this year even the deer go in it to sample. I don't think they will leave one for me! Thanks for the video!

Please thank your neighbors! The Celeste fig looks like a beautiful tree…I would like try planting one next year but I need to find a spot where a Celeste can grow without stealing the sunshine or space from my apple trees. Could you please share a picture of how it looks in the winter?
