You mentioned pruning for the winter months and showed the picture. Is that picture accurate to about how much to prune back after the winter freeze? Mine didn’t come back this year so I am giving it a second go this summer.

This plant comes in like 10 different colors. I have orange, pink, yellow and blue on my Caribbean house. I brought some seeds of the orange variety to my house here in Bell County TX last year and grew them inside the house over winter, in plastic cups. Only one remains, and it is planted outside since March of this year refusing to grow. 😂 The little thing is almost a year old and not taller than 5 inches. I am really hoping it doesn’t die or I’ll have to start all over from seeds this year. Thankfully I spotted an old plant in the neighborhood with plenty of seed pods. Maybe I’ll ask the neighbor for some seeds.🤷🏼♂️

Mine has only bloomed twice in the 4 years I have had it. If I water more than once every couple of weeks it will turn yellow and lose it's leaves. Should I fertilize during this heat?

On the crepe myrtles…there are several different varieties-some tall tree types, some medium shrub types and some dwarfs. It is best to research and get the correct one for your application instead say trying to keep one like a Natchez that wants to be 20ft in a shrub form. Just want to save your viewers some heartache/frustration.😊

Bought mine last summer still hasn't seen blooms :( I'll try to fertilize more this year. When you put it in the garage during winter do you need light or just leave it in the dark? Ty!

Did you know that lilies are sprayed with poison to make the bulbs grow? But make no mistake, many pesticides are used in lily cultivation. This causes, among other things, ALS Parkinson. It is clear that crop protection products can cause health damage. According to reports from the Health Council and the RIVM from 2020 and 2024, there is a link between the use of the substances and so-called neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson's in adults, but also prenatal developmental disorders in children. This is evident from international scientific studies

We live in Texas in the DFW area, and never have we been told to not water. The restrictions we get are that everything has to be hand watered or on drip lines, and it has to be very early in the morning or in the evening (so a certain time of day). So hearing you say that you're only allowed to water once a week I'm like 🤯. How is anything supposed to survive. Also please don't be apologetic for watering your babies, when I see these big box stores wasting water through their busted sprinklers and the the city doesn't say anything than it's fair game for everyone else. Your garden is beautiful. Don't forget your cold neck gel pads. Those are amazing to have on hand.

Will you wait until winter to dig up parts of your Mexican sage to move them? Ours is that big so I probably should move some to bare spaces since it is surviving so well. Thank you for all of your tips!

Thank you for SUCH a beautiful inspiring garden of what we can do in tough conditions. We are in the clay soil of Bastrop county, Texas (NO sand, bad drainage). You have given me ideas of how to make our yard look more intentional. Our spongy clay soil takes days to dry during our seldom but tenacious rains then turns hard as a rock in summer. So I keep digging up native survivors here and there on our farm pasture and planting them around the house. How did you determine how to lay out your dry creek bed? We have a shallow ditch about 3'-5' from one side of our home we made to drain puddles that form during heavy rains. Maybe we should put a French drain there & cover it with rock like yours? I pine for a little arched bridge. How should we cut back our Mexican sage so it has a beautiful rounded shape like yours? We left ours alone when it died back in winter and cut off the dead stems as it budded out in spring but it is flopping over. Our firecracker bush next to it is doing the same thing so I staked the single thick stem with 2' wide foilage for this season until I find out how to prune it this winter. I can't wait to look through all of your videos to see what to do the other months of the year. I LOVE that you have the written labels on the screen as you tell about each plant so we understand the names correctly. We want to garden responsibly with natives for the pollinators and work with the natural inclinations of the land. It makes more sense to not fight it. Thank you again for sharing your wonderful native garden to inspire us how to carry it out beautifully!

You sound like a wonderful gardener! For the dry creek, we first watched the natural pattern the water took when it rained. We followed that path when making our dry creek. I always chop my Mexican Sage Bush, Firecracker bush, and Salvias when they start to look leggy! You can also stake them up if you want to do that. You are so kind to compliment my garden! Thanks for all your comments.
