So glad that you were able to get on the beach. I know the weather hasn't been good. You found some wonderful finds. I never get tired of hearing about the history of the glass and that you have beautiful examples back at your home. I always learn something new from your videos. I can't get enough of the history. But I know I have to be patient during the winter time because of the weather. I was so worried about your feet after they got wet. Between the cold, wind and wetness is not a good combination in the winter time.. i Love A Good Hot Cup Of Tea in the winter it warms the soul and body. Please be safe going down the banks. I Loved The Video. Thanks Mike.

Sorry 2 weeks late in commenting but mentioning bromo seltzer brought back a memory as i have from 1958 and my grandfather. He was very ill at the time and I remember him taking the blue bottle and putting those white crystals in a glass of water and pouring it back and forth into another glass before drinking. (I was 5 at the time! Ha!.) I’m sure the cobalt color of the glass cemented that memory in my mind all this time. Kudos on your excellent editing and enthusiasm. Glad you’re back.

Already on my third viewing of this wonderful video, it's just so full of history and my favourite kinds of sea glass finds (yellow, grey, black, washboard). I want to hug that lovely "hockey puck" chunk of sea glass,... even if people would think I am nuts haha. I shivered when the wave caught you and again when you mentioned how cold your house can be. I lived in a really old house for a year and can't say I miss the typical indoor winter temperatures of between 14°C & 17°C. Brrr... Happy beachcombing friend!

Hey there, Mike! Fantastic video!!! That HUGE "hockey puck" of clear was an absolutely incredible find; Oh my goodness, I am SOOOO jealous, LOL! I'm in Stratford, Connecticut - located right on Long Island Sound - so I'll probably never find anything that big since I'm not on the "open ocean" like you are, out on that beautiful Island of yours. Our wave action isn't usually that intense (unless it's Hurricane Season) so I don't think something that heavy would ever wash up here. I still love searching for sea glass though. I find lots of common colors (brown/amber/green/aqua/clear), some pieces of cobalt occasionally and some pink and teal every once in a while too. I've only found two small shards of yellow so far. Haven't found ANY red, orange, or gray yet at all - those are my Bucket List colors, LOL. I keep telling myself, "Someday!" I've also found two pieces of bonfire which are now considered "Prized Possessions," LOL. One is really cool -- it's part of a dark brown bottle top, and the way it melted and collapsed on itself, it looks like a compressed "C" as opposed to the round "O" it used to be. It's well aged, frosted and rounded nicely - oh, I just love it so much - it's definitely one of my favorite finds so far! My last time out, a couple weeks ago, I did manage to find two bottles, completely whole, which was awesome! One is a small cobalt bottle, 3 inches tall -- have no idea the age of it. It's got a plastic "push-down-and-twist" safety top, which includes a rubber squeeze top (which is half gone) for the eye-dropper inside (which is also glass, and still whole)... and that's what is confusing me a little. The plastic safety top makes me think it's a contemporary bottle but... most eye-droppers are plastic nowadays which makes me think it could be older. There's some embossing on the bottom -- it says, "HJ 30ml 63" and it does also have the anti-slip ridges around the bottom but they are fairly worn (so another tip it's not that old, I guess). It hadn't been in the water for long because it's in near-perfect condition, which makes me think it was probably washed out of a land-fill across the Sound and landed on my local beach after only a couple days. The other bottle is light aqua (or sea-foam) and it's the size of a beer or soda bottle (approximately 9-1/2 inches tall) but there's no embossing on it anywhere, not even on the bottom. Again, no idea what the age could be. It's got what, I believe, is called a "crown top" and the seams go all the way up to the top of the lip. No anti-slip ridges on the bottom either. The glass is thicker than in the bottles made today and there are a few bubbles in it here and there. I've only been able to find ONE photo of it online but, unfortunately, it was from an old eBay auction so that page doesn't exist anymore so I wasn't able to learn anything. This one appears to have been in the water for quite some time since the "body" of the bottle is slightly frosted all the way around; the "neck" of the bottle, though, not so much. So I'm totally baffled as to the age but that's OK -- just finding it was a huge thrill for me! (Sorry for rambling, LOL, but I have no friends who are "into" sea glass that I can talk to about this with!) Also, yes, please upload your lecture videos talking about marbles and other sea glass topics. I would LOVE to learn more! I've been watching this channel for about five months and I'm thoroughly enjoying it! It's entertaining, informative, and your enthusiasm is downright infectious!!! I also really enjoy it when you take us home with you and you match your finds to the bottles in your collection -- that is so awesome! EXCELLENT channel, Mike! I'm looking forward to watching much more! 👍👍 Have a great evening! Valerie

Hi there Valerie! 🌅 I loved hearing of your bottles and sea glass finds. I’d love to see photos if you’d like to share capebretonseaglass@hotmail.ca You have a “Sea glass friend” in me!🌅 I absolutely loved everything you wrote here, not rambling at all! 💯 I’m so happy you have a place to hunt treasures next to the water, no matter if it’s open ocean or not. The fact you found pink, and not grey leads me to believe the “discarding” of rubbish into the sea ended at the end of World War 2. Reason being, Pink glass is Commonly referred to as “Depression era” as it was produced largely during this period….and grey glass being from TVs would have to of been produced (and introduced into the sea) after the 1950s, unless an early TV screen was broken. You do know quite a bit about glass yourself, hugs my friend! 🧡

@@SeaGlassArchaeology Woohoooo, I have a SeaGlass Friend! You rock!!! I just sent you 13 photos, LOL! 11 of the bottles and 2 of a mysterious sea-foam ring I found the same day. I'm hoping you'll know what it is. I offered a couple guesses in my email but I'm probably wrong. Also, I don't think the pink pieces I've found are depression era glass. It's a very subtle pink so I'm pretty sure they're really just clear manganese glass that the sun has altered. I did find one "dark" pink piece but judging by the pattern on it, and how thin it is, I'd say that one is from a contemporary perfume bottle or something similar. I don't know much about sea glass at all, really. I'm just a beginner -- I've only been searching for sea glass for about eight months. When I found my very first piece, I was hooked instantly and immediately started watching KZbin all about it. It's a wonderful hobby that I wish I had discovered years ago. I've found that wandering on the beach for hours does wonders for the soul! 🙏😃 Now I just have to figure out what I'm going to do with all this glass, LOL. I've got a small bucket of it but only a FEW pieces are jewelry grade. I'll try my hand at wire wrapping those into pendants... but all the rest of it? I dunno... mosaics maybe. I look forward to hearing your thoughts on my finds! Stay warm!!! Valerie.

Do you finish sharper edged pieces off in a rock tumbler and if so, which do you recommend?
@SeaGlassArchaeology
@SeaGlassArchaeology Жыл бұрын
Great question Shannon!🌅 I actually use the sharper pieces in my artwork, it hides those rough edges nicely. I do use a rock tumbler to clean very stubborn sea glass, lowest setting for only 6 hours or so. I bought it off Amazon, I believe it was Dani and Darcy. But would have to take a peek to confirm. Hugs! 🧡

So much wonderful information! I finally got to visit a sandy beach in my area. I found several nice sized pieces of sea glass. I don’t believe they are nearly as aged as yours, but it was so exciting! I also noticed, for the first time, very polished, thick pieces of shells. It’s amazing that the majority of them were were the same shape. I’m calling polished shells!

Hi Mike, I'm glad to see a new video today! I walked on the beach this AM and found 2 bottles, intact, one of which appears to be quite old. I had never found something like that on my beach (New Jersey in the US). I could hear your excited voice in my head! 😅 I loved your glass "hockey puck" today ... what an awesome find!

Hi there Jan!🌅 Thanks so much for watching this adventure and your question! 💫 When I began making video 2 years ago one of the first ones was titled “the enigma of sea marbles” and I did show off a fair bit of my collection throughout it! I’ll grab the link and add it below!☀️ I can imagine it’s an exciting time to be in Cincinnati, I’ve loved watch the Bengals development over the past few seasons and sure believe with a solid team effort they can come out on top this weekend!🌅 Hugs my new friend! 🧡

Wow I loved the sea marble video Mike! I like how you educate people as you explain marbles and where sea glass comes from. We are waiting for a camper we ordered last July. When we finally get it, sea glass hunting is going on the list of destinations!!! Thank you for your videos!! PS Cinti fans are so excited for the Bengals playoff game. The Titans are a tough team to beat but miracles do happen!!!! Thank you again and keep posting!!!

Wow, awesome hunt as always! True sea glass seeker who braves the elements to uncover the discarded beauties. So glad you were finally able to hunt at your beach. I hope you have more opportunities soon. That "hockey puck" find is AMAZING!! I would have been screaming my head off. I totally agree that the black one is glass. You can see the pitting on it. Do you have a LED 365nm UV/white/yellow flashlight that is used to identify jade? I wonder if that would work. Do you think that might be your oldest find? And I would LOVE to see your presentation. I really enjoy hearing your wealth of knowledge. Thanks for another great video. Happy New Year to you and your family. ❤

I’m so glad you came along on the adventure with me Diane! 🌅 Lol, I probably should of been screaming my head off as well however I’d just put the tablet in my backpack when I discovered that massive hockey puck however I was scrambling frantically as well. (It’s unreal how I’d walked past that spot previously and missed it, just goes to show why it’s important to retrace ones footsteps on the beach!). I do believe that Black glass is my earliest find to date and possibly is from the 1500s, I’m so glad you appreciate it. (I considered strongly of how it was stone, I’m so glad I took it home! 💯 Happy New Year & hugs to you my friend Diane! 🧡 Reading your words was the perfect start to my day! 🌅

15:39 that is probably a sea coin Tumbled sea glass that has smoothed and rounded in the ocean for a long time. One guy on KZbin finds lots of it. His channel is called “The Bored Pirate”. He lives in Aruba

Hi! Unless I just missed it, I’d be interested in knowing what beach you’re on. Where on CBI are you? You say it’s been “far too long”since you’ve been there, but where? Very informative, but wish you wouldn’t get so wet and cold. S Thanks for sharing and would always be interested in any lecture. ❤️

I’m so glad you enjoyed this video adventure my friend Lynn!🧡 It means so much to me knowing you’re coming along with me to the beach!🌅 I don’t tell people where this particular spot is on account of its danger. Years ago I would tell everyone, then one day an elderly individual slipped and actually broke their jaw on the slippery winter bedrock. I still haven’t forgave myself.💯 You know me so very well my dear friend, and know I always keep positive!☀️ Hugs Lynn! 🧡🧡🧡

Please post your videos on the marbles, & bonfire glass. I did ask you on your last video how come so many marbles are found on the beaches around your area. You did say some people would use them with their sling shots. If they were using the sling shots on the beaches I hope they were not using them to injure any sea birds out in the ocean.
