Ok ... so this kid goes on American Got Talent and everyone freaks out. But is he any good??? I harbor no opinions about American Idol or this guitarist or anything, so I will give you the straight, objective, 100% correct opinion. Spoiler alert ... the kid's good. PS: I refer to it as American Idol in the video, please forgive me, SImon!

Oh, and as another comment, personally I think Marcin’s AGT performances are the worst place to start with him. The show put so many restraints on what he was allowed to play and so many time constraints on his performances he was very limited in what he could do. He said on Patreon they wouldn’t let him play any of his originals (although singers on the show are allowed to do that all the time), and rejected 10 out of the 12 things he submitted that he wanted to play. He basically had to scramble around and come up with new arrangements for every show. And even though he made it to the semifinals, AGT is a mainstream pop show and really had no idea what to do with someone who plays complex classical arrangements, among other things. I get that this is the first time you’ve seen him, but the comment at the end that he needs more practice is kind of funny. I suggest you watch some of his official videos and see if you still feel that way. Marcin is a phenomenally gifted musician, composer and producer, and is already widely considered to be a world class performer.

Thank you for discovering the secrets of AGT. This is nothing but discrimination against people who do not have cancer, are not terminally sick or have not quit drugs and have been abstinent for a week, but they are incredibly talented.
@LordDTwigo
@LordDTwigo 2 жыл бұрын
Well to be fair AGT is a popularity contest once you make it to the quarter finals. Marcin was by far the most gifted, all the judges said so and agreed. Hence why he made it to the semi finals. He only made it that far because all the judges voted for him as their choice, so he knocked out 2 other contestants even though they had the popular vote. The judges votes count less and less as the competition continues. Then it becomes about the American vote. Hence why he lost to a Blind Autistic piano player, who given his disability was good, but he wasn't great or that amazing to be frank. Marcin was hands down the best performance and talent that year.
@lmcphee1
@lmcphee1 2 жыл бұрын
@@LordDTwigo Exactly. It’s all about the backstory at that point. Marcin had a happy normal life. That wasn’t going to get him any votes no matter how phenomenal he was. It turned out better for him in the long run I think. He got mainstream exposure and he’s signed with Sony now. If he won he would have had to sign with Simon’s label and I can guarantee Simon would have had no idea what to do with a talent like Marcin.

I really, really dislike when someone with a fraction of the talent as someone else within the same field says "he's still got alot of practise to do". Dude saying this kid needs practise is like saying Usain Bolt needs to run faster. At 18 he's arguably one of the top 10 acoustic players on earth, what exactly does he need to do better? He's a top ten-type talent out of dozens of millions of players around the world. This whole video just reeks of disrespect; you couldn't even give him the fact that he should be a rolemodel to young players because god forbid you acknowledged his talent right? He IS a rolemodel, for young and old players. Also the condescending ending "he's doing pretty good". PRETTY GOOD? Check your ego, quit being jealous and get off youtube

Funny thing about prodigy kids is one day they'll be an adult and half the praise goes out the window. There's a million people out there who can play like this man, most of em don't get this kind of exposure though. He is a great player, but th a t doesn't make him a flawless guitar God incapable of criticism either, it's only phenomenal to people who aren't exposed to this style or caliber of playing on a daily basis. Career musicians can see and hear things that the general public can't, just like a painter can find flaws in another painters paint job

All in All the reaction part of the video was nearly as good as the act. That is saying a lot. And I agree with another comment made that you seem genuine. If you watch Queen preform at Live Aid, all the reactions feel to me that there is a group of 30 people stealing off one another! @AndrewFriedberg; this comment, replying is certainly much better more proper, fitting, suitable; Seemingly after viewing, knowing more about Marcin Petrzalek You realize the last comment was not only rash, but extremely incorrect, improper, invalid, imbalanced seemingly biased by common 'talent show' contestants, which Marcin is certainly not among them; such he was intentionally stopped, prevented to achieve past SF, though performed among the top of all during that season. Simon Cowell had his "chosen winner" from the auditions, Kobe, who is at most a very good 'bar room, dinner theater, cruse ship entertainer with a "story" to promote. :-(

you are one of the few musicians i have seen reviewing this kid ... another gentleman, evidently with a long history as a guitar player watched Marcin's version of Kasmir and decided there was at the least a Base and possibly drums of some sort were accompanying Marcin ... I have seen a number of reviewers and none thought there was anything going on the kid wasnt doing (after they got over the amazement of what the kid was doing) ... would you consider reviewing the piece and commenting about whether, given the pickups and how he can get things 'humming' and control of the sounds he produces, he could produce all of the sounds himself ... the musician commenting on the kid seemed very sure of himself, thinking he knew exactly what the kid was doing ... listening to you was nice ... i love people who do reviews and then explain what is going on ... the 'ooooh and awwwwwe' crowd get old quickly .... i have found a couple reviewers of sings who do the detailed, blow by blow kind of analysis you seem to do ... respectfully ... chuck

You can tell who the non-guitarists are in this thread by measuring the amount of contempt they hold for the content creator. Dude is no doubt a very talented player, but you have to know nothing about guitar to think he transcends any criticism. I guess that just goes to show that a handsome guy with an acoustic guitar will always be chosen over a goofy looking guy with perfect execution, especially when there's added visual gimmics. A few of the chord riding segments did venture into abrasive territory, but his tapping skill does make up for that in this video. No player is perfect, and that's OK people. Chill out.

Marcin started out learning classical guitar and found it to be too restrictive. On his more interesting pieces he uses all the standard classical techniques to great effect. I couldn't count for a better time that watching Marcin with you. I love your sense of humor and your wise and simple comments! Knowing another Marcin's rec of the B5, he was too stressed on the AGT, more brutal than he usually is. He also - after the misplaced pause you noted - dropped the B5 and instead played another show-off. Regardless, we know the result: dollar signs in Simon's eyes. Simon and the rest of the sitters - they have an exhausting job of the weeks-long, days-long rehearsals of talents-not-to-be. So they look like "am I still alive", "can someone take me from here" "zombies". Looking back at what I've written, I love that instead of pitying them like me, you turned it into a joke.
