Man, old cartoons just hit different. Sure, there's some stuff that's dated here and there, but hey, it was a different time. Just tell your kids what is and isn't still applicable. But when those oldie-goldies strike the right notes, there's just nothing else like it.

Honestly, cartoon back then were something, magical I say. Animators then were always putting effort and love into their creation, giving a message and showing that there is always a way out of bad situations, even if it looks hard, bad, terrible, even horrible, just know that in the end of the road: You'll get there eventually

I think it's cute how in the first film, Fievel finds a cat friend in Tiger and in the second film, Tanya finds a cat friend in Miss Kitty. But between the two films, this one is arguably way better than the original in my opinion. This has more comedy, more action, the animation is stunning and the story is well written.

Ever since I was a kid I loved Miss Kitty. She's someone who knows how showbiss and the world works, someone calm but who won't take crap from anyone. Yet she's also really sweet. I love the animation of her paw gently holding Tanya. Also the advice she gives to her is gold. Couple that with an elegant purple dress, expressive animation (notice for example the confident hip sway and facial expressions), add a fitting voice and you've got a great character.

"Body positivity." Covers her in makeup. 🤔
@katziliaf
@katziliaf 2 жыл бұрын
@@englishatheart That's makeup for the stage. The idea of makeup is not just to "cover up", but also to highlight. That's why women like using makeup a lot and why many chose it even as professions. Makeup is art. With eyeliner, you can make your eyes look bigger, or highlight how big they are already -that's why I like using it. Stage makeup -though it's still "just makeup" - has the side effect for an actor/actress, that 1.) it's needed in connection to light (don't want your skin glow like a firefly's ass) and 2.) it feels like a mask, under which you can be anything you like. If you put makeup on, it often feels like watching a transformation of your face as well as your person. Tanya is new to the buisness and not used to makeup. But together with Kitty's words, the dress and the little bit of makeup (also a bit of a symbol for womanhood/ladyhood), she feels like she was "transformed" / "took on the mask" of a little diva herself. That's it. No rocket science.

What's more something I admired about her, is her wisdom. She sees the passion Tania has, the talent she just heard herself, yet she doesn't just want to bring that out of Tania but help her walk the path of a true lady. In the quotes she said; "You wouldn't be an artist if you weren't a teensy bit nervous." "Remember, the real lady is what's under the mask. Now go knock 'em dead." No doubt Miss Kitty with her experience knows that new talents can get the fame get to their heads at times, and I think Kitty wants to encourage Tania as much as help her. Such a wholesome character overall.

She hits Cat R. Waul with her tail/bustle...at first, accidentally, and the second time, deliberately. The director, Simon Wells, approved my interpretation.

I animated this entire sequence. It was not a Don Bluth picture, it was made by Steven Spielberg's Amblimation studio in London. The director of this sequence was Simon Wells.

Every single aspect of this scene is cinematic perfection! The characters are so well-developed and their emotions so intricately conveyed through the exquisite visuals it is so easy to get swept up in the narrative and forget that one is watching an animated film and not witnessing something more three-dimensional. Thank you for your priceless contribution to the canon of American film that has undoubtedly secured a place in its historic legacy. Side note: The portrayal of the female characters' support and encouragement for one another in this scene and subsequently throughout the film was truly ahead of its time.

@@Debthouse What was really unusual about the film was...Steven Spielberg wanted it to be staged like a live action picture, not an easy thing to do before CGI. There is a lot of use of depth of field, perspective on the characters, a moving camera, and LONG scenes...the one where Kitty calls Cat R. Waul "pussy poos' and he objects is over 40 feet long, nearly 30 seconds! And he actually forbade the animators to have 'held' drawings...Kristof Serrand and I were the only two who got to do them, each of us did it in one scene. You can see me using a 'hold' at the end of Cat R. Waul's line 'WHAT?" I thought it was a very cinematic picture with great potential. Unfortunately the script did not play up the main characters (the Mousekewitzes) and there were too many plot digressions. The film was released theatrically against BEAUTY AND THE BEAST, a film with a much stronger story. When all is said and done, it is the story that audiences come to see.

@@nancybeiman5368 I will admit "Beauty and the Beast" is my favorite Disney movie, but this will always be my favorite Amblimation film. It just has something the other's don't, it mixes realism into the concept of romanticism and it just works. Beautifully.

Couple of things... First I love that in Don Bluth films the characters are actually allowed to not only have but to show emotion. There's a lot of wet eyes in his movies and I super appreciate that. Second, when Tanya says she's not pretty that just breaks my heart a little bit.
