i got the one with carbon brush, but it doesnt work well with 45rpm discs. the arm moves almost instantly to the center. Or gets to the middle of the track stays there a while than moves away quickly. but it does work with static a lot.

Hello, does it really work? I want to buy it. The dirt that gathers the pick and changes the sound on playback is quite annoying. I already tried other things but they don't work quite right. If you can help me I appreciate it. Greetings from Argentina.
@YoYoRaeRae Жыл бұрын
The picture was of it being used on the U-Turn but the video was of a Audio Technica. Do you have an example with the U-Turn? That’s the turntable I own.
@thierrycola3 жыл бұрын
Cool concept but i call shenanigans on the audio test at the end... those crackles most likely were from dust particles deep inside the groove. Surface dust that this brush removes (which may later become stuck in the grooves if not properly removed, therefore this item is still useful) does not cause audible crackle or pops when sitting on the surface even if it goes to the needle during playback.
@WDeranged2 жыл бұрын
Agreed.
@danender5555 Жыл бұрын
Test conditions should be more similar. This arm performs two parallel jobs, it removes dust from the grooves and it also reduces static energy. You are right, we are unable to tell from the video, how much crackles were dust related and how much was a static energy.
@saudade3697 ай бұрын
Wow! What will those genius techie boffins in the Hudson laboratories think of next ! It looked eerily similar to the same brush that’s been on turntables for the past sixty years though ?
@engjds Жыл бұрын
By trying to clean on the fly it increases risk of needle damage, because fluff will build up on that brush and break off, sending a big dust bunny under the stylus.
@arliecrumpler32132 жыл бұрын
I saw an antistatic video using a plasma lighter. Place it about 2" above the surface and go around the record a couple of times. I tried it and crazy as it sounds, I noticed less static. It doesn't completely eliminate it but it seems better than before. It could make a good video for your channel. Compare it to the zero stat...

I wondered,there's also a version with a removeable head of just fibers. What's the advantage of this version over that one? Price in the Netherlands is around 22 Euros and the one with goathair and fibers around 38 euros. A goathair/fiber head costs around 14 euros.
@Recordology9 ай бұрын
I would say that they are probably very similar. This one has a conductive thread woven into the fibers so that static electricity doesn't build up.

@@Recordology _It's a nice experiment to make a record (very) static and first play it without and than with the anti-static cleaningarm. About the prices...if you buy the cheaper one + goathair head it's cheaper than the goathair cleaningarm. Who would buy the more expensive goathair cleaningarm?

Does the brush automatically rotate toward the center at around the same rate as the stylus? You said it rotates inward automatically, but I don't see how it would do so at the same rate as the stylus (thus cleaning the grooves right before the stylus reaches the cleaned groove).

Nope. Used to be standard on turntables. It's not too uncommon to come across an old vintage turntable with a weird circle next to the platter. Those circles are the remains of the adhesive of such a tonearm. Other variants using water have been common as well.

I built one, but think mt non-contact one is better since it covers the entire playing surface removing charge quickly, this is too small. You can DIY one pretty easy, just buy some 5mm dia acyrlic tube(5") and 2cm dia tube(1.5")-you also need a tube about 1/2"" height and just less than the ID of the thick tube which is stuck to the board using double sided tape, now you can rotate it, then drill a hole at the right height to push the smaller tube into it perpendicular, then hang a tinfoil curtain from it, it only needs to hang 2mm above the record surface, as the high voltage 'jumps' to the grounded tinfoil, I drilled a small hole to ground and mount the arm to my metal armboard (which is already grounded).

Dry goat hair does not conduct electricity. This can easily be checked with a multimeter on the ohms setting to check the connectivity between the goat hair bristles and the lug on the ground wire. The claims made about this being an anti-static device should be taken with great skepticism until proven otherwise, although it may well be effective at picking up larger dust particles right before your stylist encounters them
@Recordology4 жыл бұрын
My on camera test was 100% authentic..... think about how rubbing a balloon on your head creates static.
@TomnJudy4 жыл бұрын
I think your honesty and authenticy are beyond reproach, I don't think you would ever tell us anything that you did not believe was true. Creating friction between human hair and a plastic balloon is analogous to creating friction between a goat hair brush can a rotating plastic record. Both have the propensity to increase the voltage potential of the electrostatic charge on the surface of the dielectric. The crackling noise that you hear in the speakers is not caused by an electrostatic charge on the surface of the record but rather is caused by the dust particles that have been attracted to and adhered to the record by the electrostatic charge. This device may be fine at picking up dust particles from surface of the record but it's very doubtful if it neutralizes the static charge.
