What would be the cost to buy a fully guided hunt with an outfitter tag in unit 9? Just curious to compare the 16 years this guy waited, paying about $3k in licenses over the years and the permit, and if we pretend the zero hunt program existed that long at $350 a year, add $5,600. Are they rather equal and just a matter of choose if you want to wait it out and pay slowly or cough it all up in one chunk?

Thanks for watching the episode. First, I'll say that Nick was not a ZHF member so he paid full price for the hunt when he drew. But, he could have been a member and saved a substantial amount of money. The ZHF program was started in 2016. Basically, the most accurate description of it is that it is "guided hunt insurance." So it's similar in concept to car insurance but in the hunting industry. We feel that $349 per year is a minimal cost each year to cover yourself in case you draw a tag. And keep in mind that 50% of the non resident tags are random in the draw so a person can draw at any time- not just after they have built up a bunch of bonus points. As far as residents go, which Nick was, at least 75% of the tags are randomly issued in the draw for the residents so Zero Hunt Fees does make a lot of sense for someone who would rather avoid a $6,000- $8,000+ guide fee all at once. Also, we help our members save money on those license fees since if you date the start date of the license properly, you only have to buy the license every other year on most years- another perk of being a member. Plus we help our members with how to navigate the application process, & what to apply for based on their individual goals and expectations. Lastly, you can be assured that guided hunt prices won't be the same 5, 10, 15, 20 years from now as they are today. A ZHF member's yearly membership price is guaranteed to never increase! So they are insulated against inflation. For someone with the funds to easily pay for a guided hunt if they draw, ZHF may not make sense for them, but for many others who aren't blessed with abundant finances, ZHF makes a great choice. 👍
