@@rakshadhakal3473 Why don't you start with something real basic, like an apple for example. It's a simple form, but you still have to trace values and proportion. Succeeding in that will give you the confidence to try more complex stuff and so on, like a ladder.

The key in the drawing about dreams they speak of at around 29:45 reminds me of a story about Salvador Dali, who apparently would sometimes attempt to fall asleep in an armchair - holding a key in one hand positioned above a small dinner plate on the floor. As he would drift off his grip would relax and the key would fall, landing on the plate below and making just enough noise to stir him from sleep but not enough to wake up completely. The objective would be to wake up into that strange dreamlike state you’ve probably experienced waking up in the middle of the night, or falling asleep, where one is awake but the mind still lingers somewhat in the dream world. It’s called the hypnagogic state, where it is common to experience visual or aural hallucinations while being partially awake - and is purportedly where Dali and other Surrealist painters would sometimes draw inspiration from. Anyways that’s kinda what I thought about when I saw the drawing at first. Cool stuff :)

Joseph Campbell wrote that a myth that needs explaining isn't working. This is true also for an allegorical painting or drawing. A myth or an allegory invites you to look inside yourself and find an interpretation that works. In this way, one discovers oneself. Please don't misunderstand me, Stephen Bauman's pointing out things like one head's eyes are dreaming while the other head's eyes are open is excellent-this makes the viewer aware that there are things to explore within one's head.

We need learning how to use pencil and which type of pencil to begin?
@gongorelocksmagiincommand4 жыл бұрын
You can start with any type of #2 pencil. It’s not the material that makes good art. It’s the way you use the material! Me personally I recommend Staedtler’s Mars Technico pencil holders and their 2mm graphite (I use 4B grade graphite myself) and if you wanna use charcoal I also recommend Nitram charcoal or Conte 1710. :) but I wouldn’t get worked up about using the “right” tools. Use what you can and the longer you’re doing art you find the tools right for you :) look at Proko’s channel and he has a video about holding a pencil. Hope that helps

Future art students and art historians... you've got your work cut out if either (or both) of them end up in a future art history book lol

@scuba5694 жыл бұрын
Well, if you are talking about the guy in the video his work isn't photo realism at all.

You'd have to define photo realistic art and also explain how these works are photo realistic. What specifically does an art form require for you to appreciate it?
@SubNorm4L4 жыл бұрын
It's not photo realistic. It's academic realism, big difference. Photorealistic artists don't make any artistic decision about values, edges or design, they just copy 1:1 everything in the photo including unnecesary and ugly details, also in realism it's better if you work from life rather than a photo. This is like being a human photoshop, making it more beautiful than a camera would ever do because you choose what to push, what to leave out, what's the focus, what's important. You simplify a complex image to make it more graceful, not at all like photorealism where they don't think about anything and any robot without feelings could do.
