Selling the Boor War medal really made me cry 😢 . The sheer hell of War , the suffering on both sides of ANY War flogged off for less than three hours working with minimum wages . I'm 74yrs old and my grandchildren have promised to keep my father and grandfather's Medals in the family . All for a few pints of beer .

I agree it should be in a museum

Sad indeed. Better to a private collector than in a drawer at the Manchester Regimental museum. Along with 100 + other donated medals. MrJR

I totally agree, the small amount of money they will get will be spent in no time but that connection to a previous generation is priceless.

I'm sorry, sovereigns are never sold for scrap weight unless they are really badly damaged. Those two alone are roughly 550 or more, considering one of them is an early young head Victoria. Next is the half krugerand, 250 to 300 then the price of the mounts and chains which probably comes to around 16 grams or half an ounce troy...

The dealer that bought the vase got it because the owner said she thought it was going to someone that loved it -- but then we hear the dealer sent it to auction!

So Sad to see these medals being sold bearing in mind what those men went through to be awarded them. Terribly sad.

I agree, even if that generation of family don't want them, they should at least pass them down to the next gen as they might appreciate them more. Also the money they get for them is often so low its not worth selling.
