Most photographers would probably agree that Bombo Quarry would make it into Australia's Top-Ten landscape photography 'dream destination' list.
Heritage listed in 1999, Bombo Quarry was a project which ran from the 1880s until closing in 1940. Nearby railways, which were mainly built with basalt, were constructed in this area from the sandstone/basalt rock which was excavated from the quarry.
Nowadays, the area is fully accessible and it provides some dramatic shots for photographers who want to combine a raging sea with the cragginess of the quarry walls. It's well worth a visit..!
Let me know in the comments below what was your favourite shot.
I'm out most weekends around the Sydney area, so look out for more of these in the weeks to come.

Stunning yet again Brian, Bombo is on my to do list, was recently down at Windang island photographing the wheels, by the time I finished up we had a bright blue sky, so maybe next time.

Many thanks Adrian 🙏 Yes, I've been over to Windang a couple of times but never shot there. I've always thought those wheels would make a great foreground if you can couple it with an epic sky. Keep dreaming eh, ha ha 😀 All the best 👍

Really nice pictures! The sea looked like cotton or mist in the first picture, really big difference between first and second shot, liked them both! 👍 And kind of you to let the camera keep its blanket in the beginning of the video, so it could sleep a bit longer! 😄🌛

Ha ha - thanks so much Fanny 🙏 Yes, it really makes quite a difference to the shot when you go from a calm sea in the long exposure to lots of drama in the 1/2sec shot 😀 Take care and thanks for watching 👍👍

Very nice Brian, if I had to pic a favourite it would be the landscape shot of the channel but the basalt headland shot grabs me also but in a different way, yeah there all great shots and the way to tell is how hard it is to pin down a clear winner. Quick question in regards to your choice of grad filter, I'm currently using screw on filters and have tried a grad filter but struggle with my composition due to the graduation starting to high or low. Dose having the square frame style filters elevate this issue? Or would I be better off mastering exposure stacking in photoshop? P.S Thanks for the reminder of Bombo Quarry, second question should I visit in the day before attempting a sunrise or is it fairly straight forward as to where you need to go?
@klickinthewild
@klickinthewild 2 жыл бұрын
Many thanks Davo 🙏. Yes it's not so bad when you get out of bed so early but come home with a couple of keepers. In this video I'm using the rectangular grad which you can position at any height you like to suit your composition. Sometimes when I'm in a 'purist' mood, I'll bracket the shots to prevent any vignetting that you sometimes get - then I'll blend the shots in PS later - but 80% if the time, I'd probably use the grad. In terms of Bombo, if you've never been, I'd recommend doing a first visit when you have some daylight as it can be a little tricky to navigate and find your way around in the dark. All the best 👍

Fantastic video and shots Brian! Did you need to do any focus stacking for that second image or was it all in focus at f/4?
@klickinthewild
@klickinthewild 2 жыл бұрын
Many thanks Ethan 🙏. Great question and no, it's actually one shot. I was a little shocked myself but if you really wanted to 'pixel peep' the far end of the Quarry wall is just a tiny bit out. It didn't worry me too much though as all of the action is in the foreground and it's where your eye is drawn to. All the best 👍

Brian, another cracking video. Another location on my bucket list. My only criticism, look at me a rank amateur giving advise sorry,is that to my eyes a few of the shots appeared to be a little bit over saturated
@klickinthewild
@klickinthewild 2 жыл бұрын
Many thanks David. Yes, I usually process in Adobe RGB and it doesn't always export too well into sRGB for uploading to the web. The originals aren't overly saturated at all, in fact I never touch that dreaded saturation slider. I hate the thought of processing shots twice (once for me and once for the web) so I usually just try to ensure they are true to what I saw on the day. All the best and thanks for watching 👍

Many thanks John 🙏. I might try to do an edit video at some stage - just need to work out all the picture-in-picture tech etc 😉. I'd have to go back and look at the shots in P'S but to be honest I don't think I actually did any D&B on these. All the best 👍
