Designing a good setup to spray set neck and neck through guitars is not easy. They take up a lot of space and are probably very expensive to produce. Fortunately, I have found one that looks like it is going to work very well, and has a reasonable footprint in the shop. I love the bolt on neck rig that these guys make, so I'm really looking forward to working with this set neck version.

Whoa, SpinTwist guy solved the set neck question. I've had my eye on this paint rig design since I first saw the Texas Toast guys in Colorado introduced the SpinTwist on their channel. The fact that the fella behind SpinTwist developed the rig after being less than completely satisfied with Stewmac's rig is very relatable. My work background and education is mainly in industrial designer and it seems like SpinTwist guy and I went through the experience of buying Stewmac's rig and using that at roughly the same time. I wish I could have bought a SpinTwist rig instead of the Stewmac's.

He has indeed come up with a good alternative. I’m impressed with the two models. And he’s adding a set screw to the other version to make airbrushing easier.

I might go ahead and build something like that. Just put a stop instead of a bearing keeper from going. Closer to the table and you've got the same twist ability and put the same thing at the top of the post and the legs are just pieces of pipe with Pipe anchors

I have the stewmack version that comes with screw and set neck attachments, used it to make my Solo Beatles Bass kit, was great, but this definitely fixes that, I have a spinning harbor freight vice I frog tape ziploc bags to to protect it from overspray

That looks very useful; I have a similar item called the Freehand Holder from Stewmac. it is used in tandem with my guitar repair vise, although any vise would work. It only costs $120 and is easy to store in between use (hanging on the wall).

Hey Brad. How’s things? I’m pretty sure I’ve seen that spraying rig before but it wasn’t used for spray painting it was a medieval torture device. They would connect you to it then rotate the handle in all directions until you became violently ill. It was very effective.

@@SpinTwistPaintRig Torture device or no that rig is a great design. If I purchased one I would motorise it with some stepper motors and an Arduino or raspberry pi and use a Bluetooth remote or some Bluetooth foot pedals to control it. Again, really nice design, the only thing I would be worried about is getting paint on that red tabletop. It is really eye catching, would be a shame to ruin it.

hello your videos are nice, I am wondering if I can spray paint some color patterns on already painted guitar with clear coat or do Ineed to remove the paint before.?
@BradAngove
@BradAngove Жыл бұрын
You don’t generally need to remove it, but you do need to sand it and clean it so the new paint can stick.

I do wonder if you'd get paint inconsistencies or a blotchy result due to the rotation handle when the handle is at the 90 degree angle?
@BradAngove
@BradAngove Жыл бұрын
Is your concern that the handle would be in the way? I’d say just orient the handle such that it follows the direction you are painting and it shouldn’t be an issue at all.

Hey man, do you have any updated product or technique recommendations for polishing clearcoat? I saw a video from you on it, but it's 9 years old, and wondered if anything has been updated since then. I did a Joe Satriani-style artwork job on a guitar (w/Sharpies), then used the Car-Rep 2K spray clearcoat. It's all bumpy, which I assume is the "orange peel" issue that I hear talked about.

Does anyone need to be told this will only work with Center-Block Archtops? There are a great many guitars, Full Hollows, some models of Gretsch, Flattops etc. etc. etc. which will still, as far as I know, need the screw in the bottom strap button hole. Just saying. I know you know this as do I.

@@BradAngove I'd hate for some poor sod to put screws through the back a nice instrument. Sometimes people do not think ahead.
