Google translate is doing impressive for Irish now: I think this is (near) perfect. Love this video! Longing for the Island Farewell to the island where I spent my life, Farewell to the peaks, the hill and the mountain, Farewell to the ports, Port a Chroinn and Port Úr, Farewell to you, Gawla, farewell to you forever. As a bride I went to Westtown, To Donall, my husband, may it be, Of family, we were blessed with three sons and a daughter, Laughter was more often than gloom in my life. At Carrig an Aiffrinn, Thursday evening, I prayed to Mary to calm the storm, But my husband and sons, he stole from me, And I had a bodyless watch on Monday. Máire, my daughter, is abroad, It is she who will carry the burden of my sorrow, But my heart's desire, I will never see, The little house that Donall, my husband, built a long time ago.

That was lovely; even if I don't understand a word of the Irish Language.

For me, strangely, it makes it even lovelier. If you don't speak Irish-Gaelic, the "meaning" just becomes whatever the song makes you feel 😊

Oh, my god, so beautiful. Thanks for posting Txt as well. With no TG Lurgan this year, with this I feel all is not lost. Question: are the ladies from Donegal? The reason I ask - they sound like real Connacht Irish but I'm away a long time so def. not a judge.

I know some people ar fud an domhain post their interest in the lyrics. . Note above, SHOW MORE, has the Irish lyrics. I was pleasantly surprised recently that translategoogle.com does really well now with Irish (better than even with major languages). See this. Verse 1: Céad slán leis an oilean inár chaith mé mo shaoil Céad slán leis na beanna an chnoc is an sliabh Céad slán leis na poirt, port uí chrúinn is port úr Céad slán leat a Ghabhla, céad slán leat go buan Farewell to the island where I spent my life Farewell to the peaks of the hill and the mountain Farewell to the tunes, port uí crúinn and port úr Farewell to you Gola, goodbye forever Good? port uí chrúinn is port úr?...a Ghabhla (is this a place name?)

Gabhla is the name of the island, and the singer is talking about different places on the island. The song is about an island woman who loses her husband and three sons at sea and how they never recover the bodies.
