Today I visit a local cove to photograph a well-known beauty spot, I also discuss how I use manual focus using the rear AF-L button to get razor-sharp photos. I hope you enjoy the peace and tranquillity of this wonderful location which was perfect for a winters morning of landscape photography.

My three steps for using this focusing method are. 1. set the camera to manual focusing mode. 2. Use the AF-L button to lock focus on my subject 3. Use the focus ring to fine-tune the focus if required It's kind of a mixture between autofocus and manual focus, it works really well 👍👍 Don't miss a video, sign up for my free newsletter - bit.ly/2Y7uDZN

One of things I love about your vlogs, Ian, is that they’re so relaxing. In Norway they have a thing called ‘Cous’ (think that’s how it’s spelt). These are TV programs of just eg. waves coming into shore, or trees blowing in the breeze. Your vlogs are definitely cous.

I used to holiday in pembrokeshire and have shot at that location you are in. One of the best things about that area is that it has relatively good dark skies so it's a great place to capture milky way shots, especially with the landscape around there. Unfortunately its become too popular these days so I am not so keen on it any longer.

Three nice detail images there mate, really liked the first one , that worked out really nice. Interesting to hear how you focus on landscapes , for me i use back button focus which essentially works the same when focused the lens is not going to hunt around every time you press the shutter , good luck with the project hope you get that shot and produce the calendar, i look forward to seeing how that develops, good luck all the best mate.

"not enjoying touchscreen" I can confirm that. My Nikon Z6 has a very useable one but i never use its touchfunctions. And the buttons are really good and well placed. I think that the reason is that my first Camera was a Sony and it was horrible with its toucfunctions.

Hi Ian, love the videos, a great help keep going. I am thinking of upgrading from a xt2 to a xt5 as I always think my photos need to be sharper will this help. I use a fujinon 16-80 , I would like your comments on this lens. Regards Malcolm.
@ian_worth
@ian_worth 11 ай бұрын
I haven't used the 16-80 so cant comment on this lens. re upgrading, you will notice a little difference if you print big images A1 and above, on the screen though the difference is fairly minimal. I would consider upgrading if you need faster autofocus, faster processing speed and ibis. Just my thoughts though, both are great cameras 👍👍 have you tried dxo pure raw 3 with lightroom, this plugin sharpens up fuji files nicely 👍

Ian, I have a video focus question... I assume you are using your XS-10 to film your videos. My question is, what focus mode do you use and with what lens or lenses? Another well known KZbinr with the initials TH (🙂) uses the XT-4's for his videos and a lot of times they are out of focus. He said in his XT-4 review for video that he manually focuses. Your videos are always spot on. Thanks!

Manual focus is what I use Edward
@ian_worth
@ian_worth 2 жыл бұрын
Hi Edward, yes, I'm using the xs-10 for filming and always use exactly the same method as I mentioned in the video, its definitely more reliable than autofocus for video work. My three steps for using this focusing method are. 1. set the camera to manual focusing mode. 2. Use the AF-L button to lock focus on my subject 3. Use the focus ring to fine-tune the focus if required It's kind of a mixture between autofocus and manual focus, it works really well 👍👍

Thank you Ian. Forgive me for being a little confused. When you mentioned ‘manual’ focus I thought you meant switching off the auto focus on Lens and turning the focus ring on lens to focus. Seems you’re using single point auto focus but selecting it by af-l button (?) button rather than touching screen? So for me on my Z7 that would be the ae-l button. Is this right? Thank you again, longing to get back to Wales lol
@rigbyphoto
@rigbyphoto 2 жыл бұрын
I haven't seen the back of a Z7 but my Z7II has an AF-ON button that I use for back button autofocussing and I think it must be pretty much the same as Ian's AF-L button.
@cjones7246

@@rigbyphoto perhaps it’s not allowing the camera to focus until I press the button manually - is that the terminology here?
