The biggest glitch was in 2011, for Direct TV customers, during the national test, which played Lady Gaga’s “Paparazzi.”

I remember in july 2024, i was in my car driving and heard the eas required monthly test saying this station is participating in a test of the Illinois Emergency Alert System.

Glictches: 1978: This is not the right EBS, this alarm is from 1983. 1979: There is a lot of colors in the top of the screen, the EBS is also sounding over the voice. 1980: If you hear closely on 1980 (2:20) the EBS is stopping and going. 1981: If you hear closely on 1981 (3:15) it sounds like loads of buzzing bees. 1985: The person who said “This is only a test.” had put the EBS on max volume. 1986: Same thing to 1985, but the person looked embarrassed to say this is only a test. 1988: He probably was nervous to press the EBS button. 1989: The volume was low so 90% of people can not hear it. 1990: The same thing to 1985 and 1986 1991: The same thing to 1981 1993: When the EBS started, the screen began to turn black.

@@Bagel_Le_Stinkythey may have already had the eas tone in the 70s because at the end of the day these eas tones are a lot like dial up , it’s computers talking to other computers. So it wouldn’t be surprising if they already had the tone but it just didn’t enter regular use until 1983

@@StarvinJar The long attention tone used by the EBS is not a digital data stream, it is just two sine wave tones played simultaneously. The tones used by the EAS to encode data are higher in pitch than this attention tone.

The colors in the 1979 clip are not a part of the test, but are artifacts created by the degradation of the decades-old analog video recording medium.

I remember seeing an EAS on Christmas Eve LOL (That was on KARE BTW). One of the EAS tests from Minnesota is on there (The 1982 one right here 4:19, the 2000 one from TPT aka Twin Cities PBS and the 2012 one on WFTC).

The first one (ebs 1978) has a shockingly clean microphone voice because a. It’s 1978 b. MOST EAS/EBS NOW HAS THE MOST CRAPPY MICROPHONES EVER!) Like What Is Better? 0:15 (1978) or 36:25 (2019)

I believe 2019 was a text to speech computer and the audio was crunched to make it easier to process
