Excellent speech and just plain common sense. Bernie is a straight talking man who won't be bought by any special interest group and is the person we need to run this country. I can't imagine if he decides to run how many billions Corporations and billionaires would spend to assure he is defeated. Others out there need to wake up and support this man and pledge they won't have their vote bought by the rich.

This man needs to be president. I just....it's perfect. He proposed a resolution to a problem that has existed for decades in just 20 minutes. I will sell my home, my television, my computer, and my kidney for this man and his noble cause. The fact that he can stand up there and say what he said to a government so stuck in its own greed and corruption is awe inspiring. You go, Bernie.

Hillary is a moderate, which some people like, but that's why the current DNC is worthless. They're too moderate and they just aren't doing enough. I think hillary is popular because of name recognition. I hope when primary season comes along, Bernie pulls an Obama on her and steals the nomination. Again.

I am also proud you are not part of the gangsters known as Republican and Democrats who have mislead our great country for nearly 150 years. We need more like you but beyond that we will one day have a president with a congress that is truly for and by the people to restore what our country was founded as a republic. You are not alone look for me in 2020.

Bernie is seriously the best candidate I can see running for 2016 on the left who has a shot. I love his perspective, love his agenda. The only way I would like him even more is if he flat out endorsed a basic income policy.
@dgustafson1000
@dgustafson1000 10 жыл бұрын
I agree with you! That's definitely the future! It might take a few decades to get there though. Basic income security would create a boom in the economy and everybody would like it because it's just extra money on top, like getting social security but you have a job too so it ends up being a lot. Of course you have to tax the rich to pay for that, but I wont lose any sleep over that. I'm in the upper 50% but definitely not in the top 20% and I think the Amount that the super wealthy get compared to everybody else is insane. The fact that 60% of the people function on 1.7% of the wealth is evidence that things are extremely unfair. If you were even to add 1.7% to that, you'd effectively double most people's lifestyles. It's freaking accidental pennies that they are dropping that's the difference between somebody having a decent life and living in poverty. I am self-employed and help others find work, My minimum wage is $20/hr. We need to pay all people a living wage AND/OR provide income security so that you have the basics taken care of regardless of employment, or if you have a job, it's extra spending money on top. So if you get a job that pays $4000 a month, you'd now be getting $6000 a month. Also tuition free education would be a good idea, get as many people educated as possible, you'll have fewer people on government programs and even the wealthy will make more money because citizens are smarter and making more money. It's all connected!

Our roads, bridges, river systems, waste/water plants, airports, railroads, schools, etcetera. It has been estimated that the cost of the Bush/Cheney war in Iraq, a war we should have never gotten into in the first place, will end up costing us some #3,000,000,000,000. This guy has my vote. The only part i disagreed with was raising min wage. Don't get me wrong, I make min wage. I work in retail. Raising min wage will just in turn raise the prices of everything around us. We've done it before, and it causes inflation. Now slowly overtime, it's not entirely a bad thing, but if you raise it so drastically like I imagine Sanders wants to do, it is very bad. You'll be happy you're making 11 bucks an hour now, but then you'll find that bread is now 5 bucks instead of 2 or 3. Why? Because big businesses aren't going to make less money because they have to pay their workers more, no, they'll just raise the price of their products. And that would happen within the farms and factories that the products are made in, the warehouses that store the products, the transporters, and within the grocery stores themselves. None of those businesses will take the fall for that. So If you suddenly make more money it'll be awesome at first until you go to try and spend it when you realize that everything is more expensive now too. Hell, in a way that really screws over small, local and family owned businesses. They have to raise the wages of their employees too, but, not having the same resources available to them as big businesses, they're prices are typically higher to begin with, but in order to simply stay afloat, they'd have to raise the prices of their products and services. Not even because they want to keep making the same amount of money. Also, I was part of a union when I worked with a grocery store. Personally, I hated it. I basically felt like I was paying money to people who I never saw, and I felt like I was reaping 0 benefits from it. For one thing, While I was working there I was hired on at the same time as this guy who was the same age as me. It was both of ours first job but yet almost from the get go after we finished our training, he was getting more hours than me, even though we had the same availability and I stressed to my manager that I was available. Due to the system at this place you get raises for working so many hours but I was never able to reach any of them because I was never given enough hours. Meanwhile he was there almost every day. And by the personal opinions of several of my co workers I was a harder worker than him. I just felt like the whole situation there was unfair in more ways than one because even though there was a system in place that should've made it equal to everyone, it somehow failed me either because I am a smaller stature girl or because my manager just didn't like me. I don't work at that grocery store anymore, instead I work at a craft retail store that does not have a union and honestly, I feel like I'm treated a lot better. It probably also has something to do with the company itself, but I get better hours and its just in general a more personalized and less stressful experience. So I'm not really for Unions, but I understand if someone else would be, just for me personally it's useless. But there's just something about this guy that feels right. I think it's time for someone with good ideals to be in office again.

[sorry in advance for the tl;dr] For a moment, I invite you to pause and step outside of your current line of thinking re:minimum wage. Assume for a moment, that all you know is assumptions, lies you've been fed. While you're there, contemplate these points: - the cost of living has increased at a significantly greater rate than effective income for the last 30 years. (1) - as a result the current minimum wage is a steadily declining percentage of the poverty guideline. (2) - McDonald's (to use the cliche example) makes some 95% profit from drinks and fries, and $15/hr would cut into that profit (which is >20% overall on average as of 2014) - the fear that prices will go up is not invalid, but it is emphasized by those in the pockets of big business, and the only true "trickle-down economy" is that fear. Now, realizing that though logical and partially substantiated, the fear that the price of bread is going to bankrupt small business, and make things worse is little more than propaganda (which comes from both sides) ... Seattle is holding up just fine at $15 an hour, and the articles outlining small businesses that "had to close over the minimum wage hike", were businesses that were already closing. Do we need $15/hr, perhaps not. I think $12 would do. What we need, as Bernie says, is a "living wage". We need to make enough to not work 64 hours, at 2 jobs that cap us at 32 so they don't have to provide benefits, to barely scrape by, and be unable to get an education or skills to get ahead. There are brilliant minds down here, stunted by lack of connection, mentorship, and privilege that the wealthy hand down to their progeny. Your fear is absolutely understandable, but don't let others dictate what you're afraid of. Question everything, even this. If it hits you in the chest, check for sensationalism, for propaganda. Independent, critical thinking, is what big business fears most. Open eyes, open mind. We're down here being fleeced and tread upon together. Thank you for taking the time to read this. First off, I totally appreciate the fact that you came at me in the most sensible way. Not too often people can be so level headed on the internet. But Secondly, My personal opinion on raising min wage is that its a gray scale. one end of it is the very unlikely end that everything stays the same as is, and big businesses take the hit a bit (like it would hurt them) the other end being that we suffer huge inflation. I really wasn't fed some crap, i was taught how economics work and formed my own opinion. Now granted I'm no economics Ph.D so i'm sure theres some flawed logic in my argument. But thank you for the info, I appreciate it. :)

You know, Bernie Sanders isn't that much different than the republican party. He addresses very similar issues, merely in a different manner. He admits that this country is in a massive economic decline, but he doesn't admit that it is the Obama administration that has put us in our situation. I'm pointing this out to reiterate the fact that this is by far the best country in the world, to have potential leaders on both sides, fighting passionately for ways to improve our way of life. I don't support Sanders, but I have a lot of respect for him.

In inflation-adjusted dollars, the median male worker earned $783 less last year than he made 41 years ago. The median female worker made $1,337 less last year than she earned in 2007. Since 1999, household income for the median middle-class family is less than it was a quarter century ago. We once led the world in terms of the percentage of our people who graduated college, but we are now in 12th place. Our infrastructure, once the envy of the world, is collapsing. Real unemployment today is not 5.8 percent, it is 11.5 percent if we include those who have given up looking for work or who are working part time when they want to work full time. Youth unemployment is 18.6 percent and African-American youth unemployment is 32.6 percent.” -- U.S. Senator Bernie Sanders. Sanders detailed a 12-point economic program to, - Invest in our crumbling infrastructure with a major program to create jobs by rebuilding roads, bridges, water systems, waste water plants, airports, railroads and schools. - Transform energy systems away from fossil fuels to create jobs while beginning to reverse global warming and make the planet habitable for future generations. - Develop new economic models to support workers in the United States instead of giving tax breaks to corporations which ship jobs to low-wage countries overseas. - Make it easier for workers to join unions and bargain for higher wages and benefits. - Raise the federal minimum wage from $7.25 an hour so no one who works 40 hours a week will live in poverty. - Provide equal pay for women workers who now make 78 percent of what male counterparts make.

nj4ck with great success? Who Norway or sweden with their populations that sre the size of one American city? What large country has done well with socialist/progressive economics? I agree with the issues he's raised, but vehemently disagree with his strategies to fix them. He says unemployment among the young is 18 percent, but supports raising the minimum wage, which has been proven to increase unemployment among that very demographic (or raise prices until the wage raise is moot). I am a finance major and economics is my minor. I have taken many macro economic classes and it has been proven through economic principles backed by empirical research, that minimum wage raises increase unemployment or raise prices. Take your pick. The latter puts us back at square one. It puts supply and demand of labor in disequilibrium because the price of labor is what sets supply and demand. In a free market, employment would be 0% (theoretically) because the price would adjust so that supply equals demand. With minimum wage it keeps the wage rate from reaching equilibrium which will cause unemployment to rise. Fact. Also, with technology growing expontentially, it incentivises large corporations to automate unskilled labor positions. This will happen just wait. And on top of that, it favors corporations over small businesses because corporations operate on higher margins and can absorb the increased labor expenses better without raising prices as high, or laying off as many workers as small businesses. Small businesses will be forced to raise prices higher, which will make them less competitive than they already are relative to corporations. But I know you guys don't give a shit about economics. All you guys care about are intentions. Well idc how well intentioned you are, if you aren't willing to realize there is a difference between intended strategy and realized strategy you have a problem.

nj4ck oh and he wants to expand medicare and everything and social security. Well guess what? We have an 18 trillion dollar debt and 100 trillion in unfunded liabilities AS IT IS. Expanding everything would just make our fiscal situation even worse. It's very irresponsible. Adding to the debt is trading our children's and future generations welfare for our own. That's just wrong. They aren't here to have their voices heard. But I'm sure they wouldn't want us ruining there futures. Look at greece. That's us if we keep down this path. I want you to sit there and type out 118 trillion letters on your keyboard. Lemme know when you're done. Talk to you in a few years. Then realize that our debt is not payable and we will eventually be insolvent if we don't turn that around, and now.

Joe montanna A lot of the things he is saying actually SAVE money, for one the US has to bail out hospitals that treat the uninsured and since they can charge whatever they want it ends up costing twice as much as it would to just go ahead and put everyone on medicaid. Another way it saves money is when doctors can't milk your insurance, they just go ahead and give you the right treatment to begin with. It is a fact that every 1 dollar spent in education brings in 5 dollars in added income to the country. No more having visas to bring in people from other countries to do jobs that Americans are not trained to do, so all of the billions that immigrants send out of the country every year would stay in our economy. If there is one truism, it is that you have to spend money to make money and fixing the roads and bridges save money on transportation of goods and services in the long run.

According to Sanders, and i agree, that no reform could move forward until corruption is reined in. His 3 big plans that we hear so much about are the Rebuild America act, American Health Securities act, and College for all act. I'll try to explain the best i can and will post links. I'm seeing nowhere that I can readily ask a direct question, though I can absolutely understand why, given the flood that would ensue. Bernie Sanders Every open-eyed, aware American knows that our votes are potentially defeated, effectively rendered irrelevant, by the "winner take all" system in the electoral college. Your election could be defeated by the very corporation-sponsored political corruption that you're challenging. In 1888, a time before these shenanigans, Cleveland won the popular vote but lost the electoral vote 233 to 168. How do you expect, what is your plan to defeat the electoral college?

Mr. Nate Agreed. We need to find a way to force corporate hands. There has to be a way to get them to stand with us, against the wants of the greedy individuals running them. It has worked on stances regarding racism, women's rights, and now marriage. We have seen that corporations will publicly stand with us if they believe their bottom line depends on it.

Ronan Frost Well, Sanders looks to be the only candidate who is capable of targeting the grit of the country and dealing with issues that perhaps surpass the ones you mentioned. I see fairly eye to eye with him and some of these issues should just be FIXED (i.e. gender wage equity). If we get corporations to stand behind these obvious desires...
@RonanFrost
@RonanFrost 9 жыл бұрын
That would be one direction to start. Give them something other than a minimum wage hike to bite on. The crux of the problem isn't getting them to appeal to us, however. We need them to see a reason to back Bernie, to get their cronies that will be doing the gerrymandering to work for us, rather than against us.

I follow your social media. You have smart ideas on what needs to be done. But HOW do you propose to convert your Congress, and the billion dollar, multinational businesses using them as marionettes, to convert these ideas into successful actions that actually bring about your INTENDED change? It will be just as hard to legislate corporate entitlement issues as it has been to battle welfare entitlement issues.

***** Most of the things he is saying would actually SAVE money like every $1 dollar spent in higher education actually produces $5 dollars in new income for the country. More trained workers means less third world immigrants being shipped in on H1-b visas who send most of the money they make here back to those 3rd world countries. Hundreds of billions of dollars have been sent out of our economy over the years never to return. Right now the government is spending tens of billions of dollars bailing out hospitals every year because they are treating uninsured people, it would cost 1/2 as much to just put everyone on medicaid because then they could control how much the hospitals and drug makers charge. Right now most of the cost of goods is in the transportation, bad roads and bridges cause delays in transportation, cause damage to trucks, cost more for fuel for trucks sitting idle in traffic which causes more pollution etc. all of those costs are passed on to the consumer. So fixing all of that would not only create millions of new jobs but billions in new tax revenue because the more companies make, the more tax they pay. The renewable energy would create millions of new jobs as well thousands of new businesses to supply the equipment, all of those would be paying tax and saving money on energy and clean up of pollution. He will not be starting any wars like every republican has sworn to do, that alone will save trillions of dollars. All we really need to do is keep terrorists from coming here and the less we meddle in other countries, the less terrorist want to attack us, so we would actually be safer if we did not have warmongers in charge. Breaking up big banks would stop them from crashing the economy so that will save loads of money. Trade unions are already scrambling to find workers who can actually build things, there is a shortage of people who can weld, lay pipe, form concrete etc. so with stronger unions more people can be trained to build the factories and water and sewerage plants that this country needs so badly. That will save billions in clean up plus they will have money to spend and to pay taxes and that will be new income. We all know the rich need to pay their fair share so closing all the loopholes and punishing those who hide their money so they can cheat on taxes would also bring in new money. Doing the right thing for the people would also cut down on crime so that would be money saved. So many ways to save money and make the country a better place at the same time.

I absolutely see every point and appreciate you taking the time to share. However, all of these will have a cost:time loss. The financial balance and benefits won't be seen for many years. To companies looking primarily as losses v gains for the next few quarters, looking to impress current and future stake/stock holders, the immediate outlook of these great ideas will mean (temporary) financial losses.

+Michele Guilford That kind of thinking is part of the problem short term > long term.. The stock market is a smoke and mirrors show that benefits the top 10% mainly because they own 80% of said market. CNBC about a year ago Stock ownership is even more concentrated when it comes to share of total stock holdings. In 2010, the latest period available, the top 10 percent of Americans by net worth held 81 percent of all directly held or indirectly held stocks, according to Edward N. Wolff, an economics professor at New York University who specializes in inequality and Federal Reserve data.Wolff said that share-which has not been released yet for 2013-has probably gone even higher than 81 percent since 2010.
