This is a cutoff piece of Weeping Birch that I turned a bowl from a couple weeks ago. Not as punky but just as spalted. It can hold dried flowers and it has an interesting ledge that goes almost all the way around the top that would be a good landing spot for cute little figures. Finished in shellac.

It's so kind of you to listen to our input! The vase is beautiful with its intricate spalting and papery bark. I've never turned anything on a lathe and probably never will, but I enjoy a relaxing visit at Shady Acres watching the wood shavings fly. I'll check out your friend's video for sure. Take care, and thank you for showing us the creation of this great piece. 😊

That unworked chunk of Weeping Birch, looked like a big ham butt, which made me hungry for Ham, Sweet Potatoes, String Beans, and Apple Sauce for dessert. That's exactly what I made us for supper. I saw this piece in your other video and it made me hungry for a ham dinner then. This time I went for it. Thanks for your inspiration for our supper and a lovely vase. I was impressed that you could sand the birch bark without tearing the bark to shreds.

Mother nature spent a lot of time on her art, I just like to polish it up a bit, Dotty! 😊

That's one crazy looking vase/bowl I love it , and luckily I have some weeping birchwood drying in my shed and after watching this I am looking forward to turning it when it's dry . I just hope the cracks don't get bigger, or is it there's no cracks only art , hahaha. Thanks again for sharing your skills and knowledge with us yet again keep well.👍🪵🌲

Another beautiful piece! Somehow you always manage to take a piece of oddly shaped wood and create a work of art. (Glad you heard me and took the corners off, it really helped balance the symmetry of the wood. 😉)
