My Biopsy & results of my medical tests after an abnormal mammogram. I take a deep dive into what we need as women emotionally over a certain age. What are 7 needs and what rules apply to our growth and happiness? Just going through these crucial needs we share helped me realize so much this week about what has been holding me back. I confused self-worth with self-esteem.
Please don't put off medical tests because you are scared. How about one month out of the year to tackle a few? That's what I have done...and it has paid huge rewards for my health and given me peace of mind.
I love you all and hope your journey is a joyous one, no matter the path before you.
And the dinner party was a success and I used the Tuscon Rose China & Sunflowers! Lots of tears and laughs and hugs that went on forever! High school friends and confidants for life!
Love Always, Susan & Desi
You mean so much to me...and Desi does sing at the end!

Last Sept 1st I had a routine mammogram.(I was 69) They asked if I could stay for an ultrasound. There was a questionable area. I stayed. Then the radiologist came in and said I need to have a biopsy on the questionable area. I went back a few days later for that. It came back as an invasive malignant cancer. I had surgery and then radiation for 30 days. But the key thing for me is they found it before it went into the lymphnodes. We caught it early. I didn’t have to have chemo. My life was literally saved because I went to have a mammo done. Don’t put it off any longer. If I waited another month, the outcome could have been completely different. Catching it early will save your life.

Olivia your story reads like mine is told. Mammogram on my right breast was abnormal. Came back for more extensive imagery. Referred for biopsy, MRIs, ultrasounds...diagnosis was Triple Negative Breast Cancer...they didnt think it had invaded my lymph glands. The only way to treat this type of cancer in 2018 was chemo. 5 1/2 months of 4 different chemo drugs reduced a tiny tumor to nothing. Then I had a bi- lateral mastectomy. That's when I learned definitively it had never entered my lymph glands. I cant tell you what the party in my heart felt like. Only 3% of women make it past 3 years without it reocurring. May 2nd I start my 5th year of survival! Early detection is absolutely essential! And I preach it to anyone that will listen. Susan thank you Thank you for sharing your story and what a blessing you are okay. I love your visits every week! Love Desi and his songs at the end. Keep being you! ...till next week~ Love Marla

Moving close to your grandchildren was the right thing to do. You’ve always spoken about how important your grandfather was in your life and your giving your grandchildren that same experience. A special relationship between grandchild and grandparent is priceless.

I remember at 32 the Dr. calling with the words cancer and how empty and scared I felt. I had loving husband and two young sons. One was 12 and the other was turning 9. All I could think about was how scared I was that I would be leaving them. Here I am 76 and going to become a great grandmother in September. At age 47 I face something even harder hearing that word cancer again but this time the outcome for the love of my life my precious husband was not so great. He passed 20 months later. Life will never be the same but I have purpose in life to be her for our sons and our grandchildren and now my new little great granddaughter who will be here in September. I want to let them be told stories of the amazing grandfather and great grandfather they missed out on who would have loved them so much.

I had a similar experience with the loss of my husband when I was 52. He passed two weeks after his 54th birthday from a 5 month battle with cancer. I turned 80 In December & I have two sons & a daughter along with six grandchildren, one greatgrandchild & one in a few months. I agree life has not been the same but I’ve also been blessed with my family. My husband lives on through the stories we have shared with the next generation.❤

I imagine there has been many hard moments with his situation and how beautiful that he has had you there to support and advocate for him and that you felt that honor of being his daughter deeply today. A month ago I found out that I had uterine cancer when I was getting ready to receive a donated embryo (because I never had children of my own). Plans changed quickly and I had a total hysterectomy this past week with hopes they got all the cancer. I will never experience carrying my own child now. I’m grateful to be alive though and hopefully for many more years. How precious is life.

Susan you are where you are supposed to be… the most important thing you did in this age was moving close you your family. They are blessed to have you so near. Our grandchildren and children are our legacy . Proud of the woman you have become is a profound statement… we are not always proud of what we did in our past but we learned and persevered to what we are now. Be proud of that journey… you are awesome! I’m so happy that you received good news on your medical condition… it really is okay to be emotional. I’ve been emotional this past two weeks. My 97 yr old mother passed away peacefully in Fl, with my brother st her side. She lived a long life and blessed to be able to be in her own home, doing her own cleaning and cooking. In the end she was not alone. We had a complicated relationship but no matter still my mother. God bless you and Desi. Keep shining your light bright. Much love ❤❤❤

So glad your biopsy was benign. Seven years ago I had swelling under my armpit and my mammogram and biopsy were not benign. I had a mastectomy, but because of my age, I will be 85 next month, I refused all treatment after the surgery. I wanted to enjoy my 8 grandchildren and family gatherings without the terrible side effects of medication and radiation. I`m so glad I made that decision, because that was 7 years ago and all of my grandchildren are grown, finished college and three are married. Two of them have blessed me, one with a great granddaughter, and the other a great grandson. As of now I have had no serious health issues and I`m still going strong, which puzzled the doctors, because they were apprehensive of my decision. This may not be the right decision for many and it may have been a different one for me, had I been much younger, but I have always believed that we will not leave this world until God says it`s time. Love and Blessings To You and Desi.

Susan I know how you feel. I fell off a one step step stool, I went to the hospital had two CT scans. While the radiologist looked at the scan he noticed two small nodules, one on each lung. My brother had passed away with lung cancer a few years prior so that really got my attention. The doctors decided to do a PET scan. I knew that was a pretty serious scan which only heightened my apprehension. So for a couple of weeks I was on pins and needles. My biggest fear was something would happen to me because My spouse of 59 years has dementia and I am his caregiver. After I had the scan and got the results I was so relieved. Both nodules were benign, I can’t begin to tell you how relieved I was. They said they would do a CT in 6 months and just keep a check on them. I give God all the praise and glory for my wonderful outcome.

My father had prostate cancer in '97. He is having a great life, now, at 90, thanks to his tests. Alas, my mammo and biopsy were not benign. BUT, as you said, we have caught it EARLY. Hi Susan, I am so happy that you are cancer free. That is a marvelous thing. I will be 74 this year. My goal is to stay in my home and lead as painfree a life as possible. I share my home with three dogs, two birds, and one cat. I feel so privileged to be able to live this life, to share my time with my precious companions. I have a piano and an organ to play whenever iI want, a wonderful supply of books to read, and a plot of land to landscape and garden (total land mass is 1/6 of an acre). This life is a challenge just to fit everything in my day. I get around mostly by wheelchair. But what I wanted to share with you is that I really like my life. It's comfortable and I can study whatever I choose. I don't know where that fits in your seven needs but I'm very pleased that I have no demands on my time but what I choose. I took care of my parents until they passed away. I helped with my grandparents as best I could. I think I'm just pleased that my time is my own and my life is mine to do what I want and I feel free.

70 IS the new 50! I’m 69 and 3/4. 70 is such a new milestone! I thought 60 would be hard. It wasn’t! My 60’s have seen so much aging and skin drooping and hair-graying abd thinning but I feel great! I had a Medicare annual checkup and the nurse asked me what meds I’m taking and I said ‘none’! She could hardly believe it! But I teach yoga and Pilates, took up ballet again (after Covid losses), walk a lot outside and started with a personal trainer. My muscles look better than that twenty-something nurse that took my info and she had a lot of excess weight on her than she needed. That will not serve her well as she ages. Stay in shape, ladies! Your life will be SO MUCH EASIER and healthier if you do! I just read an article about Alzheimer’s and it said it’s not only brain tangles that contribute to it but controlling blood sugar, eating healthy and exercising are key to staving off dementia! DUH! The simplest things are often the most effective.

Breast thermography and breast ultrasound are fantastic alternatives to mammograms. The fear of a mammogram is rupturing a potential cancerous lump by smashing the tissues down which would metastasize the cancer, or radiating the breast tissue which causes damage and unhealthy cell reproduction. After my daughter had cancer I will never have a mammogram for those reasons, but ultrasound and thermography? Absolutely! Oh I’m SO GLAD you’re okay!!

❤ God Bless You! 69 is young. I'm 79, my benign biopsy was just a hematoma in the area where my cancerous kidney had been removed the prior year. I've had three TURBTs to remove small non-invasive tumors from my bladder. To me, that is a blessing in itself. It could have been worse, requiring me to lose my bladder or spreading. If I should die, I think to myself, do I have choice? It's His plan and I can accept it. I hear afterlife stories of how beautiful it is on the other side. That's what keeps me positive.

As I listen to these profound words, I am so thankful that I know where to find #1 SECURITY..My security is found in Gods word. He promised to never leave or forsake us. #2. GROWTH.. I have so much room to grow in Gods word. #3..CONNECTION..What better place to find connection than in the house of God. #4..LOVE..My love for someone who gave their life for me, gets stonger every day. #5..PURPOSE.. Where can you find a greater purpose than to search for righteousness, peace and joy in the Holyghost, and share with everyone. #6..SELF worth is found in knowing the Creator of Heaven and earth knows how many hairs are on my head, and yes that is in the Bible. God has become my everything. Ecclesiastes 12:13 I am doing my best to live by. I know this is long, but my heart is overwhelmed at knowing the one true God. I am so thankful your test was benign. You are so special and willing to share. Prayers for all.

Desi cracks me up with his little stretches. It took me turning 70 to realize I didn't know who I was. Life has always been a struggle. I never fulfilled any of my dreams because I allowed others to dictate my life. I have taken care of family members my entire life. I still am. I started it at 16. My parents had a late in life child. She was born with arthritis. I always had to help with her care. I got married at 19 to escape. The guy I married was an alcoholic. I stayed with him 27 years. During that time, I cared for my Dad and my sister and raised my son. I got divorced and a couple of years later, I had my granddaughter for 3 years. Then my Mom got sick, we moved closer to my sister. Mom passed and my sister moved in with me. Now, I am caring for my sister again. it's tough. She can't travel any more. She resents my going anywhere. She always tells me I shouldn't travel because I am too old. And, all I hear within myself is guilt. I can't do this any more. So, later this week, I am going back home to celebrate my granddaughter's 18th birthday. I have made arrangements for my sister's care. She isn't happy about it. But, I am feeling so happy to be leaving for a few days to be me. So glad to know your health scare had negative results! You are such a beautiful person and your messages are always thought provoking. Thank you Susan for inspiring me weekly!

Hello 👋Susan. Being bored hasn't come into my mind entering my mid 70s. Fears can definitely dictate our lives. There's a battlefield in our minds. Growth being necessary is so true. I used to rely on myself; not even my spouse. Well, if illness or tragedy strikes even our own abilities at that time may not be security at all. Just me, but God is my security. It's not about age, maybe maturity or relationship with life. Yes connections matter. My home is not what it was. You are so blessed to now have a home near your family. Love knows no distance and I now see it's about giving love & care as the measure of what we can do on this earth. If we have a pulse God still has a plan. Have a wonderful week, good health & hope.

My mother was one to instill that in me. Yes! first impressions , good hygiene and cleanliness are important. In 1983 When the doctor/ owner of the nursing home where I worked as a nurse, told the staff to go to the liquor store he owned to cash their paycheck when they get off work at 11:00 pm is when I stopped allowing where people saw me affect me. When I told my mom she hit the ceiling concerned about who saw me coming out of a liquor store. For the first time I stood up to her and said “ Jesus is the only one I answer to and he knows what I did in there”. Mom didn’t say anything to me the rest of her life about “ appearances “. Fancy furniture, clothes, and cars are no longer important. I’m happy with things that function for my need. Consignment stores are my friends. I’ll pray for your health to remain healthy. Hugs and love from Arkansas ❤️

My beautiful grandchildren live about 7 miles from me and they will not only not know my name they won't know me. Due to my dil. However I have a new baby cousin that I will start babysitting a couple of days a week. It's been years since I've seen my grandchildren. But I can't wait to fill my arms again.

I'm so sorry your DIL has taken away the greatest gift any child can receive - a grandparent's love! I've seen first hand the guilt and remorse of those grandchildren who haven't seen a grandparent for many years, and on their passing wishing they could change the way they acted. Sadly, too late. Hope your grandchildren can see for themselves what a treasure they are missing out on in their lives and you can have them back in yours. Hugs to you ❤

Thank you Susan for advocating for early detection. As a nurse and a woman who has a 35 y.o niece who is a breast cancer survivor, it is vital to have regular mammograms. She had 2 young children at the time so we were all scared. She is now cancer free and guess what? She had a 3rd child despite being told she probably would not be able to after her chemotherapy. Brooklyn is a miracle. I do not understand why woman moan about how uncomfortable or painful a mammo is, because any discomfort is so short lived and minor. The second the technician takes the image the plate automatically lifts up off your breast. My appt. is already made and this year I will have a sonogram also since I have dense breasts. Just do it ladies! I am so glad Susan that your results were benign!

I think I have spent all my life depending on a man. And I swore I would never end up that way, but here we are. Well at least my daughter is independent so that’s something. Self worth. I have none. And I think I never will. It’s just the way it is so I’m not going to fight it. I enjoyed this so much, Susan! I hope you have such a wonderful week. Lots of love, Melissa

I really feel you, Kathleen. It surprises me to find myself in a similar place as well. I move between sadness and hope. Sending you a friendly virtual hug (or high five, if that is more your speed).

I am also sad most the time. My two children older and left. My husband cheated on me and left. It’s hard to open up to people now. Almost 40 years with one person and now gone. Not my choice. I am 67, now at my age after being married since I was 19. How do I trust again

Thank Goodness for Betty Ford in our town (@)(@) My son called and asked if I could take Liam ( 8 yrs old) the week of Spring Break. Happy to & going to bring him to the U.P where we have property (in-laws place) as he’s never been. When my son asked Liam “ Do you want to go to Grandmas? OF COURSE he said” They live an hour away so every minute I’m able to spend time I jump at the chance. My son called back & said “ I’m going to take time off and join you” Now’s the time we weave ourselves into their lives whether they grow up & don’t have time for us as long as they love us❤️

So glad it was benign! I too had abreast biopsy 5 years ago. It was benign too. Same as you calcifications that had to be studied further. Luckily they said if it was cancer it was caught "early". Thank God i am ok. I never miss my mammograms. I am 70. I just lost my dear sweet Mother on February 8. I was devastated 😢. I am still grieving but I hope I can live as long as she did. She was 93!😊 she was a very strong lady and I hope she can give me the strength to to live with a zest for life like she did.❤

I’m an empty nester and my daughter lives only 15 minutes away , but She doesn’t ever bring the kids, doesn’t like to be around me. And has me on silent on her phone, and it’s sad that she brags about how she doesn’t want to be bothered. I’ve always been there for her, in hard times and now that she’s successful in her career, she just pushed me out completely. I just wish she would bring my grandchildren that all, but every time I ask the kids when they can visit they say they are too busy. Breaks my heart. 😢 how is it possible that people would think that children don’t need their grandparents.

Oh dear....I am so sad to hear you are not seeing your grandchildren! Is there any way of striking a deal with her....like maybe, once a month a long visit?
