Your videos are a wealth of information! For instance, how an artist would manufacture their own paint before paint came in tubes and how the amount of oil in the paint would effect the paint. Maybe one video you can show how paint was made by using ground pigments and linseed oil. I was surprised that a frame not all that old was as bayed and bowed as it was and it certainly effected the painting in an adverse way by weakening the canvas. Another great video. Thanks.

Hello Mooonie, and thank you for your feedback, You are giving me an excellent suggestion about a video, how I can show it, and how artists would prepare their paint. I will make one in the future for sure... Stay tuned 😄 Yes, the humidity affected the canvas, which pulling the stretcher, made it very distorted. 👌

The fact that that beautiful painting was hiding under the grime, varnish, and damage amazes me. The fact that you can bring it out into view again amazes me even more. Such beautiful and detailed work you do. 😮 Tongue-in-cheek question: did your relatively easy access to Belgian linen have anything to do with your decision to become a conservator, or is it a benefit of where you live that you discovered after you made your choice?
@Figueiredoartconservation2 жыл бұрын
Ho Jespersan, your feedback is very special, I am happy you found the video interesting and could cause emotion in you. that is great. This was a long project, but I am also glad about the video. 🙂👌 About your question, Which is very special and interesting... No, the fact I can access relatively easily the good quality Belgium Linen, did not influence my choice. Since very young, it was notorious that I loved to draw and paint, although, when I grew up, I did follow, a totally different profession... But Life gives a lot of turns, and soon or later, life puts you in the place you should be. Originally I am a painter, but I love all art fields, and what is concerned with art. I love antics and especially old paintings. So although I am a painter with very modern technics, I love as well the conservation and restoration of old paintings, so for me, everything is a complement to everything. And that is why I did choose conservation and restoration, although I still paint, now doing a standby pause, because I do have several priorities with my channel, And I only have two hands, and I also need to sleep some time... 😄 Anyway, I imagine you may feel a bit curious about my (another side), and if you feel like wanting to see a bit of it, I am present On other platforms, but under another name. If you want, and for your curiosity, you can try to look by (Marinho Tavora on WIX), or in (Saatchi Art) also look for Marinho Tavora, I hope you have fun. 🙂

@@Figueiredoartconservation Thank you for answering my question, and also for detecting and answering the curiosity behind it! I have been curious about your background and other work, but had been trying not to intrude, so thank you for telling me your other name. I've found your work on Vimeo, Wordpress, and Saatchi, now. 😄 Your video work "Entre ti e eu" is particularly impactful. I'm not sure what you intended to communicate, but this is how it worked on me: the sounds established the feeling of a vast space, both overhead and between me and the performer; the performer's movements created a feeling of heaviness or great inward pressure, and seemed to show the need for awareness of surroundings and great concentration to withstand them; observing the video made me conscious of how the air around me feels, and how it differs from the feel of water around me, so I began to think about how air might feel on a different planet, where it would be lighter or heavier because of different gravity. In your "Time/Date Group," I greatly enjoyed your use of strong gestures in the imagery. Where modern painting styles usually unsettle me because strong color lines draw my eyes across a canvas with seemingly no purpose, your inclusion of hands and feet in expressive poses made sense of the black shapes and red shapes, giving them purpose and a narrative. The gestures in the paintings also continued as gestures in your photographic arrangements, and there they again helped me understand the narratives that you were establishing. In using them, you helped me to perceive a lot more in your works than I could have otherwise appreciated. On Saatchi, my eye is most often drawn to your "Angels City (Green)" work. The attractive surreal elements stand out in it very well, but the lightning(?) lashed across the whole front of it makes it feel safer to look at than the blue version. It gives the impression of a barrier in the foreground, so that I can stand back and observe the dream-like images but they won't reach out to pull me into a nightmare. I like that effect a lot. You have a great deal of skill, sir, both in conservation and in creation. Thank you for sharing and showing your work!

@@k.jespersen6145 Thank you so much for your beautiful interpretation and words, When I was studying my professors would say, artists create works, paintings, sculptures, installations, and photography, but once they finish their creation, the work is no more from them. The work is from the ones who take the time to look and observe it. I need to go now to Brussels because I am going to fly, and I can not give you a better answer now, but tomorrow, I will be calmer, and I will come back here to speak about some points you speak about installations and performance. Thank you very much again, Jespersen.

@@k.jespersen6145 Hello, I am back, sorry but yesterday I had several reunions and I was so tired, that I was not able to come here. Like I said before, I believe, that when I finish a specific work, that work starts to belong to the watcher. So your interpretation is very special to me, I love to listen to or read other and different interpretations of my works. (Entre ti e eu video, Between you and I video) When I did create this work, I had in mind different dimensions. I strongly believe in the energies of everything, between people, things, actions, everything. I also believe in different dimensions and planes of existence. I also (on my way) do believe in superior energy that surrounds me, that not necessarily I have to call God, or Jesus, or Buda, another name, but is energy. And when I made this video, it was that it was a talk between me and that energy, the sound illustration can transport us to different worlds, different ways of communication, and different languages. It was a very interesting work to be done. "Time/Date Group," Is an exhibition I made, I remember that those paintings were painted under a very strong emotional period, so they are a bit strong and sometimes very expressive. I love abstract expressionism ( a movement in painting) and I love to paint paintings in this line. But I also like to introduce a little of clear, understandable, and objective forms, like parts of the Human body or other objects. I am not a very figurative painter but sometimes I do find it interesting to introduce some small figurative notes. I also have a work called Time, Where I turn myself into an Hourglass, a human hourglass, trying to make a bridge between time and ourselves, time passing through our hands, turning us owners of that time, making us able to do what we find better, to be done with that time. I am extremely happy, you took your time to look, appreciate and make your interpretation of the paintings and installations, Thank you

I've been waiting for a new video from you! I really enjoyed this longer format and the mix of first person view and third person view. You always come across as so sincere and friendly in your videos! Wow, what a filthy painting! You've really brought it back to life. What's with that little kid on the left hand side, is he trying to nick some fruit? Question: do you need to get permission from the paintings' owners before you can feature it in a video? I would love it if one day you can do a video on your journey to becoming a conservator, like how you got into it, the training, who you trained under etc and maybe some behind the scenes stuff, like what a typical work day is like, how many conservations you have going at a time, etc.

Hello Novan, and thank you for your great feedback. The little boy on the left, looks like he is studying, he is near a window, so can have some light to help him in his studies, but that is my interpretation. I'm not sure about the connection between the boy and the other persons in the painting. thank you for your opinion about the video, and my performance. :) The suggestion you gave me about one future video, is very interesting, and for sure in the future I will have one, focusing on those interesting points. Yes, I do have to ask for permission, and normally they are very happy, I can make a video about their painting, and for example, I do have a client, that sometimes brings me paintings to restore, so he can put the painting again in an auction house. Thank you again

@@Figueiredoartconservation I appreciate how you always reply to comments! Thank you! Oh one other suggestion for a behind the scenes video is if you've ever had any disasters? Have you had a project that's gone horribly wrong, and how did you fix it? Muito obrigada!
@Figueiredoartconservation2 жыл бұрын
@Novan Hahaha ;) ;) , de nada... It is a pleasure for me to answer comments, and thank you again for suggesting me about the disaster, that fortunately, I can tell you, I did not have yet a terrible disaster, also because before I apply a certain new technic, first I do a test it in a very small area, I may have some retouching, that did not turn so well, but if necessary, I remove it, and I do it again. Anyway, I thank you for your generosity in giving me Ideas for future videos. :)

Oh I see about the boy now! As I said, my device can't handle any of your videos above 240p, so I couldn't see the boy clearly. It looked like he was poking his head through the window to steal some fruit, but seeing this at a higher res, I can see he is just studying now!
