Perfect Ride and video footage. Sounds like this new ride is giving your Himalayan a run for it's money. Won't it be interesting when Royal Enfield unleashes the 450 and 650 line. Weight will surely still be a factor if an individual rides on tarmac to the trails such as Harding Point. Cooler weather has been a blessing for riding.

It's an entirely different ride on the Honda. I think spending a year on the Trail 125 was a huge benefit, and now I've found a small dual-sport that I can confidently tackle more adventures off road. With that said, I still think my Himalayan is the better adventure bike (for now). I'm very eager to see the new 450 when it comes out. If it could come in under 400 lbs that would be incredible (but I think that is unlikely).

Been watching since the himalayan (I have the same one.) Loved the feeling of growth here. That outro with about 15 seconds of just music and trail felt like it should have been an extra 2 minutes! Cheers (Also I was scared you were going to trade the Himi and keep the Trail.... good move!)

Thanks so much man. I appreciate the kind words and I do like to think my skills have improved.--at least somewhat. As far as the himmi...she'll be around for a while I suspect. I am curious about the new 450 himalayan coming out in a few months (in India). It could be a worthy trade in for a larger adventure bike (if the weight doesn't go up)

Sadly the ridiculous brake cables are somewhat common on dual sport and dirt bikes as there needs to be a way to accommodate the high suspension travel of the front forks. It is a bit goofy and awkward, but I honestly don't even notice it anymore. Many people do "redirect" it elsewhere.

Hi. I just bought the Honda CRF 300 LS. So I love your channel. I was hoping you could help me. I bought Barkbuster VPS handguards and Tusk universal wind screen from Rocky Mountain ATV. Both were stated to fit this bike. I can’t get either one to fit. It seems there is no room on the handlebar for any brackets, especially on the right side of the handlebar. First, which handguards and wind screen did you buy? Did you have to do anything to get them to fit? I have the stock handlebar. Thank you for your response.

Can't remember if I responded already, but I also didn't like the Barkbusters and how they were supposed to fit. I still have them sitting in my garage, and honestly not sure what to do with them. I instead went with the Zeta XC guards as they fit better and connected on the lower part of the bars. I did still have to cut the end of my grips though.

Thanks... I really appreciated the comparisons you made between the CRF300LS and the Himalayan. The Himalayan is head and shoulders over the CT125 in it's off road capability. And it's clear from your comments that the CRF300 is again that much over the Himalayan. The Himalayan is about 100lbs heavier than the CRF300LS... which makes is that much more cumbersome to negotiate over rough terrain. It is fairly well balanced but still a bit top heavy. The CRF300LS is so much more nimble in terms of weight than the Himalayan and likely demonstrates greater balance with a somewhat lower center of gravity. The instant throttle response is going to be more pronounced with that super low first gear. But when it comes to pulling over rough terrain it won't likely stall out on you like the XT250 tends to do. But this is only valuable when you gain the confidence to move over these obstacles while picking the best line for the conditions. Gord

Thanks for taking us on the ride. I am assuming, because you didn't mention it, that you did not take the CT125 out this way, just the Himalayan. I'd be interested in that comparison. Also, it appears you haven't yet updated your gear list from the 125 to the 300, but the one piece of gear I'd love to know about is the chest pack you have on. I think there's a Garmin 6x unit poking out the front pouch? It looks very useful, so if you have a link, would love to see it. Thanks.

Thanks for the heads up about the gear list! Completely spaced that. The pack I'm wearing is the mosko moto 8L wildcat pack with the chest rig. It was wicked expensive (christmas present), but I like the chest rig for carrying snacks and my InReach Mini 2 (which is what is sticking out)

@@twloughlin You bet. And as far as the 125...I had always meant to take it out to the Point...but just never got around to it. I DID take the Trail on the big Flagstaff-Sedona Loop though that included some of the same roads and was by the far the most technical ride I've ever done. @@On2Feet Yes I saw those videos and was very, very impressed with how well the Trail did and how skillfully you negotiated that trail. Those videos were key in my decision to buy the 125 for myself - and thanks for all the maintenance videos! And you were not kidding about that Mosko Moto pack - $$$$$$! Will probably look for a cheaper alternative.

that was a sweet spot. there was a small land formation or maybe ancient Indian marking down the hill visible in the drone footage. I wish you had gotten some footage of. that would be cool to figure out what that was.

What would you say the Himalayan is better at than the CRF300? I considered a Himalayan but ended up with a Kawasaki KLX 250. I'm trying to figure out what a Himalayan might be better at. Possibly better seat comfort. I don't think the Himalayas top speed would beat either of these bikes.

I've only had the 300LS for about a month so my eyes are still quite a bit glazed over. The Himalayan definitely does better as a highway bike...and obviously has better fuel range. I would definitely prefer the Himmy for multi-day motocamping (unless where I'm going is incredibly technical). With that said, I think if Honda made a Rally S version that was short, it would be a much tougher comparison.

Thanks for sharing the ride! I'm looking at selling my 22 Tw200 for a faster bike thats still trail worthy. I also looked at the Rally but not sure yet as im only 5'7. However I've ridden moto x my entire life, sold a Crf250x with a 37" seat ht before buying the Tw. Im just more comfortable with a lower seat for all these stop lights on my way to the mountains. Your 300LS seems like it could be a perfect fit with a few mods. Anyways appreciate you're videos and sharing. It’s funny you say that. I thought it was really going to bother me but I don’t even notice it. When I’m sitting, it’s high enough that it doesn’t block instrument panel. It’s only when I stand that I sort of notice it. But yes, it is a bit ridiculous…and where the rally has things a bit nicer.
