Great review and I sent this to someone I know for an opinion from someone who owns this model for some time!! I couldn't agree more with 95% of your points. That being said, I have to counter a couple of your cons about the bike. 1) My first address is that a center mount kick stand does not weigh 20lbs, it's actually about 1-2 lbs for aluminum and 2-4 lbs for steel. Anyone new to motorcycling and watching this will come away without realizing you didn't mean literally. I just feel it is more important to give those who are unfamiliar with motorcycles a little more straight forward details versus generalizations they may not catch onto, since this is an educational video. 2) My second address is more substantial regarding the fact that the wheels require inner-tubes. That is not actually a bad thing, and too many people want wheels that allow them to run tubeless tires. If you get a slash or deep gouge on a sharp rock you are going to need to use an inner-tube regardless because there is no way to patch that, it's not a straight puncture. So, even with tubeless tires, I would carry back-up inner-tubes just in case. And yes, spoked wheels (not tires) is definitely a benefit off-road. Excellent review thanks again!

Yeah...I may have nitpicked a bit on the "cons"...but ¯\_(ツ)_/¯ . It's all sort of moot now as I've sold the 125 and replaced it CRF300LS.

Great trip report. Was a little disappointed to not see drone footage of Long lake and/or Kinnikinkick :(. Maybe you have b reel to send me. Was metal detecting and riding 800gs at kinick Monday Dec 30. This last tank in video wife and I camped near waters edge in the spring when it was full. Beautiful section of BDR (sure a little rocky at times). Thanks for sharing!

Thanks for the great videos! Question - I've been considering a 300LS, but it sounds like there is somewhat of a high-pitched whine at times - is that coming from the transmission possibly? Curious if it's as loud from your perspective as it seems to come across in the audio. Thanks!

Interesting take on the ECU. I installed a new ECU, exhaust, and filter, and can feel quite a difference. I do believe the mpg has dropped as well, although I haven't really checked. I also installed an Acerbis gas tank which helps a lot. Something to think about if you plan on longer rides. Love the channel. Great work. Keep 'em coming my friend.

That is a sexy bike. I’m learning off and back toad n the baby sister xr150L and a klx230s. At 5’1” I need the lower seat height. But when I’m ready to go up in size this is the bike I have my eye on for all the reasons you’ve mentioned. I wish that the manufacturers would catch on to is these “smaller” displacement bike are becoming very popular. And it would be great if they started making them itch at least 3 gallon gas tanks. Time will tell. Honda is definitely a nice bike and I think the mpg is generally better.

Thanks for te tips , I've used some. On mine I threw away the useless plastic battery cover , and the tank top one. Also , many clips, long hoses, brackets , the seat silly switch ....everything I found non necessary , I've made it SIMPLE ! (pun). My best mod : adding the webike gear indicator , helps a lot with the weird shifting. Like you , I'll keep it totally stock , bulletproof that is. PS : oh , I also sawed off the "heel" . makes it lighter , faster !

I don't care much for the color scheme or ABS. To each their own thiugh 😁 Still an awesome bike. I brought my 300l home this past April. It cost me 6700 out the door in Indiana. A few mods later, and 6k miles, it puts a smile on my face every time I fire it up! Happy trails! P.S. 550 performance and a Yoshi slip made a huge difference

They are the outback motortek bars. They do work pretty well, although needed a few minor adjustments to fit properly on the LS

Valve adjustment very important. I have had 2 new shadow 600 vlx's. Did them at around 300 miles. Were out of spec. Rear cly tight. My uncle bought same bike. Hard starting around 500 miles. Valves tight. Adjusted. Go to go.

Came across this on Facebook maybe it will help you. It is supposed to reset the ECU mapping. maybe that won't work now that you have the 550 on 1) turn key on, then off, then on 2) turn throttle from 0 to full throttle three times 3) turn key off wait a few seconds 4) turn engine on and test.

What kinda boots do you usually wear?
@On2Feet20 күн бұрын
I don't usually wear boots...and prefer trail runners. They worked for me on both my AT and PCT thru-hikes and I find boots very bulky and restrictive. As far as trail shoes, I typically go with Topo brand (and sometimes Hoka).

Apologies for asking cuz I'm sure you've addressed this in another video but what windscreen is that?
@On2Feet28 күн бұрын
No worries at all Jim. It's the T-Rex racing shield. It's not bad. It definitely doesn't block all the wind, but it's adequate. www.t-rex-racing.com/Honda-CRF250L-CRF300L-Headlight-Guard-p/n108-20ws.htm
@JimAppleby28 күн бұрын
@On2Feet are you satisfied enough with it to keep it or have you considered getting something else?
@On2Feet28 күн бұрын
@@JimAppleby I definitely won't get something else. If anything I could see myself potentially removing it entirely....but for now, I do like the protection it offers on bigger roads and highways. I get some helmet buffeting, and wind does move around it to my upper arms, but my chest and neck are mostly shielded.

oil filter?
@On2Feet29 күн бұрын
The 2022 "red" model doesn't have one. Just a centrifugal oil spinner. The newer models now do have a filter. In my case, I sold my Trail 125 last year and replaced it with a CRF300 so it's all kinda moot now ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

How is the throttle response now that you installed the g2? Smoother delivery or still jerky?
@On2FeetАй бұрын
I talked about this in another video...but the short of it is that the bars are fine (and improved the connection points of the hand guards), but the throttle tamer did absolutely nothing and is not worth the money. The only things that have slightly improved the jerky throttle have been simply tightening the cable, going through the electronic throttle reset procedures (they're detailed online and can be found with a google search), and marginally with the ECU upgrade (but only marginally).
