I've run CO2 for years and this must be the best tutorial ever. Thanks for sharing.

If this video were a DVD, you'd be quoted on the cover!! 😂 Thank you so much.

Thanks. Was searching for a concise video myself and couldn't find anything that wasn't a bit long and rambling. Hope this fills the void! 👍

Hey man you have a great channel here been enjoying your content for real! I think you're a good watch for mid-level experienced fishkeepers that are trying to venture into more advanced things or approach things from different angles. I just tried skipping aquasoil for the first time and am now 3 weeks into running my first tank using organic compost as a base layer in the substrate, not coffee grinds yet but maybe one day lol. Subbed!

That's awesome feedback, thank you so much! If the channel were a DVD, I'd be clipping out your quote for the cover! 🤣 Approaching things from different angles is spot on. I may have overdone it with an upcoming video tho..... I'm also researching and exploring dirted tanks atm. Good luck with yours! 👍

Hey mate, great videos. Pretty new to all this, but what would be the cause to my c02 tube filling with water? Thanks :)

Really excellent content, clear and accurate. I now always use oil in my bubble-counter, water gets pushed out. But where do you get a bottle filled so economically? I use filled reconditioned fire extinguishers because of the challenge of finding a firm willing to refill a cylinder.

Thanks William. I didn't realise I was so lucky until recent similar comments. I have a great company near Llantrisant called Gas Link Wales who refill my 6kg cylinders. I have one for the aquariums, and one for the sodastream which I hacked. Saving a fortune!

Liquid carbon is definitely not co2, I hope you covered that in following videos! It's an algaecide. Awesome tutorial though 👌

I have a question and I can seem to find anyone on the web trying this out.( unbelievable right?) . I have refillable CO2 cartridges, refilled via a valve. I’m wondering if I can use on of those Aquarium CO2 generators and just connect a charging needle to it to refill my 12g cartridges?
@AquariumShed Жыл бұрын
Hi. I don't think there'll be sufficient pressure to refill other cartridges I'm afraid. Sorry to disappoint. 👍 Edit: sorry, I thought you'd commented on my DIY Co2 cylinder video - I'm actually not sure about doing what you said with a pro cylinder like this. But my hunch is that it would probably work.

@@AquariumShed I have no experience with CO2 tanks… but if there is CO2 in the tank all you need is the valve that outputs CO2 at it’s full pressure 800psi.
@AquariumShed Жыл бұрын
Yup. I think your right. I'm just so used to co2 comments being on my other DIY video so I got confused! Lol.

@@AquariumShed it’s just unbelievable nobody had tried it… can’t find anything online. You never want to be the first person lol.

Perhaps look up forums about ppl refilling their sodastream cylinders. I'm sure I read something ages ago about that which could be useful for your situation. If I recall correctly, they place the empty cylinders on weighing scales so they know when to stop. 👍

Start with one. Wait a few hours. Look for pearling and if you have fish are they staying up at the top of the water column if not try raising it to 1.5 bubbles. Keep doing this till your plants are looking good and the fish aren't gasping. Every system is different. The absorption of co2 can be tricky. One person might have the co2 mist come into the tank under a powerhead of return from the filter blowing the mist across the tank allowing more absorption than just letting the mist rise to the surface and escaping the tank into the atmosphere.

How do you connect the solenoid to a timer?
@AquariumShed5 ай бұрын
Personally, I plug it in to a smart plug. Altho a manual plug socket timer will work just fine as well! 👍

I've been a bit paranoid, is there any particular bleach you should or shouldn't use for cleaning diffusers? I guess some have other weird chemicals in?
@AquariumShed Жыл бұрын
Yeah, I avoid anything that is scented or has anything other than Sodium Hypochlorite and water. The one I use is 4.7% Sodium Hypochlorite. Just make sure to use a double dosage of water conditioner to soak it in afterwards and you'll be fine. I tend not to immediatley replace it in the tank just to be on the safe side too. It's the sort of job I'll do in the evening and then leave it to completely dry out overnight.
