No because I don’t understand how they were calling her whitewashed when she was clearly connected to her Black Womanhood and was quite educated in terms of Civil rights, Racism, etc. She was a fan of Malcolm X and actually since she couldn’t directly call out white supremacy too much, she would do it when she could and do it in other intelligent ways when she couldn’t. Truly a QUEEN.

Icon & A triple threat: singer, dancer, & actor. Or as someone said "No one put it all together like she did. She may have not been the best singer, or dancer, or most beautiful. But she knew how to put it all together like no one else." She is a complete package. No rivals. I was in Jr High when this came out and went to my sister's to watch. It was a big deal! And she's still a big deal! Legend.

I was 11 when I saw this Special. So much had happened. Florence Ballard dies in Poverty (1943-1976) then Mary Wilson dies without ever coming back (1944-2021). I had no idea what The T.A.M.I Show was but I got the DVD and what an amazing TV Special. She thanked Josephine Baker, Ethel Waters, and Bessie Smith for kicking The Door open for her and now Rihanna, Beyonce, Whitney Houston and countess others thank Diana for kicking the door open for them.

When we level the playing field, we look at the beauty, talent, moral conviction, vocal prowess, longevity, the American songbook there are two bookends that chronicle the American female singer of contemporary music and the sound associated with American popular music, those two women are the late Aretha Franklin and Diana Ross. Everyone else falls between those two benchmarks. Celebrate them while we can. They are mothers, moral leaders are singing any genre including their own with precision, professionalism and a true embrace of ancestry.
@gmoneyhollywood4116
@gmoneyhollywood4116 4 жыл бұрын
Oh my Lawrence, you summed it up quite well. They are tru;y the eptitome of the American Sound. However, I will take it a little further, While Aretha captured the Black American audience a lot more, Ross put her footprint and was a lot more effective on the global scene. Both are beautiful Icons of the Music Industry, Aretha, by far, had a stonger and soulful voice, and was a lor more spiritual,but I think Ross has had a more profound impact overall not just in music but in film, tv movies, broadway, and global operas. Ross is also known for her beauty. Ross has also had her moments on the Spiritual scene as well, as she also grew up in the Church. However, she is the Female Music Artist that sets the bar for everhyone, including the female artist in this current era. Ross separates herself from Streissand, Cher, Madonna, Aretha, Summers, Houston, Carey,and the rest of the artists. She's everything that an artist from yesterday as well as today aspires to become. No artist atriculates and enouciates like Ross either. Ross is one of a kind and she reigns Supreme!

Also The Supremes were the "Only" Girlgroup to survive The British Invasion. In a Documentary called Girl Groups The Story Of A Sound, Ronnie Spector of The Ronettes (RIP) said The British Invasion took the girl groups away, the guy groups away. Also in a Pre-Taped performance of them on December 23rd 1964 Brian Wilson of The Beach Boys had a nervous breakdown and in 2002 a Brand New Girlbrand called Girls Aloud in The UK were introduced to the world and in 2013 when they did their very last performance, they wore Supreme Style outfits.

Triadafillos Orfanos wrote : this woman would be nothing without the force and drive of Florence Ballard and Mary Wilson, and without Berry Gordy promoting Her at any cost.. You can't say that she'd be nothing without them. When she left Motown, that was it for them. She promoted Motown and named Berry Gordy in every interview. She praised and lifted everyone in the Motown family, for many years after she left. Neither Motown nor Berry were involved in the disco era. Diana wasn't afraid to jump from one genre to another. She was gutsy and that's what it takes in the entertainment industry. We all start somewhere but it's our responsibility to make decisions that will further our careers. As far as her personal life, say what you want but she started out at 16 years old. By the time she was 23 she was performing almost nightly and had toured the world twice. She had no time for a personal life. She was young and looking for love to fill the emptiness the comes with being a "product". As far as her affair with Berry, he was divorced in 1964. His relationship with Diana was between 1965-1970 when Diana ended it. She then married Silberstein and it lasted 7 years. In between 1977 until 1985 she was single and once again looking for love one heartache after another. Gene Simmons revealed that he fell in love with Diana. Sometimes life takes over your heart. Of course there was a price to pay for the 2 years of bliss. Her friendship with Cher was the sacrifice. That boo-boo has been committed by millions of people around the world. Trust me most of the time it's without malice. All the accusations that are out there can't hurt a artist when they have already gained the love & respect of important decision makers and fans. Her longevity speaks for itself. And still, during all these years she hasn't needed Berry Gordy to jump in and save the day. She's a beautiful woman who has met each phase of her life with grace and elegance.

@@triadafillos1 The Supremes with Diana Ross leading the way are iconic while the 70's version are a generic imitation of the 60's group.

@@davidmoody1235 I don't agree with you, the 70's Supremes is almost a whole new group, for me, a much better version than the original one, with more soul in the singing and with much better songs than the light pop songs which Diana sang with her false and thin voice. All the leaf vocalists of the group after her had a much stronger voice. What they didn't have was the full support of the Motown records and it's owner, Berry Gordy. You see, no one of them jumped in bed with him, I guess that's why

Dionne Warwick's version of "Here I Am" from "What's new Pussycat" was much better. Diana's voice was too squeaky and she screamed too much!

No other artist in the seventies was doing shows produced like this. Hence, why she got a Tony award for this.
