and i was lucky enough to get to talk to elie. I won a contest when he came to our school and i got to have dinner with him in our cafeteria. That was something i will never forget.

Did he show you his tattoo?????there was speculation from another survivor (miklos guner???) That the number that Elie says he has tattoo on his arm actually belongs to someone else....

I read Night in my Language Arts class and all i have to say is this man is a warrior.He had the will to live through the holocaust.I respect this man so much.

If you were to read the comments section without watching the video, you would walk away sad and embarrassed to be a member of the species. @@billscannell93 I'm so happy that there was only one officialy recognised genocide in WW2. Wow out of 70,000,000 people only one official genocide. And the great thing is I can print and advocate hate towards Germans in any country in the world without going to prison without fearing prison or having to pay reperations to the German state. Now Poland has to pay Isreal 300, billion to Isreal. I'm loving it gosh. I wish I had a Jewish mother.

You want proof, look at the thousands of images from museums, read the hundreds of testimonies from survivors, look at the still standing death camps. It's sad when Elie asked, "Why help took so long" , was he asking help from Europe or America or all? Did he not read up on the war outside of Auschwitz? France and Italy was on it's knees, Britain was on a knife's edge. True, Americans didn't want to get involved, but after 1941 - it took a year to prepare and organize the invasion. Does Elie know HOW HARD IT WAS to finally end the war? And again, NO ONE believed Nazi Germany committed heinous atrocities until it was all over. Sad, but the blame felt shameful.

you're absolutely right yet i think he's more well known because, well, the others didn't try to get out and tell their stories if you know what i mean... (most are probably too horrified. it takes guts for him to tell the world about what happened.) the others could also get out and write a book. except that i think with Wiesel's story already out there... it'll be pretty hard and maybe repetitive.

He books for somewhere between $50,000 and $100,000 according to his agency. I have seen him though, and he gives a great lecture. Also, I imagine at least part of his earnings goes to the Elie Wiesel Foundation for Humanity.

those who refused had to watch their family (if they have any left) be tortured, and be tortured with them, then watch them die first, and then be killed in a horrible painful way, usually gassing or hanging. They had no choice.

Don't get me wrong, he did go through one of the worst possible fates there is to man.. But he is not the only survivor, there may even be people who experienced a much more disgusting time in a Concentration camp and still lived. It is not right to say that he has the most experience.

if that is the truth that elie wiesel charges $50,000 per speech, then i am stunned..... this is or should not be about personal gain but sharing the horror stories with those that are sympathetic towards this period of ww2 and to the suffering that the jewish people had to endure, not greed!!!! if i do find it to be correct, then all i can say is it is obscene and will for me personally cast some doubt in my mind especially after reading his book "night"...expenses yes, 50 grand....NO...!!!

The tattoos were put on the wrist, so you cant see it through his coat, or shirt sleeves... But I would not expect a doubter to know something like that!!
