He introduced concepts and topics in Hip Hop such as esoteric Gnostic knowledge (Freemasonry, Cosmic Thought, Egyptology). Rakim's parents were also both musicians and part of the late 60s/early 70s Progressive Jazz movement fusing jazz, bebop, funk, rock, classical, punk and found sounds (early sampling?) So that was a factor and influence as well. Rakim is Hip Hop Perfected

Biggie even admitted that in his 95 source awards interview. I cant say nas didnt sell like them cause Nas 2nd album It Was Written in 96 went 2x platinum in 2 months & was # 1 Album 4x consecutive weeks. Nas was the hottest emcee summer 96. Pac even was even inspired by that album & the track I gave you Power which is why he did Me & My Girlfriend. Keep in mind Nas , Biggie blew up after 1 or 2 albums.
