Hi! I'm thinking about picking Switzerland as my first choice, what do you think are the best things about exchange there?

I am from switzerland actually so "bring make-up, it will be expensive there" I won't do that :)

I live in Aargau near Baden. Are you still here? Where did/do you live? Yes I'm going to Costa Rica next month (I'm so excited!)

+Lara Siebenhaar Baden was my hosting rotary club! I had to go there every month and I love it there. 😊 but I lived in Rottenschwil and went to school on Kanti Wohlen. Small world! But that is so cool! Congrats! My host sister actually went to Costa Rica on exchange a couple of years ago.

5:15 Are you kidding? You were going to a country FAMOUS for precision time keeping devices and you thought, "Oh I better take an alarm clock." That is like going to Switzerland and saying, "I better take some chocolate." Oh please tell my you didn't bring chocolate!

well, for me as a german it's not offensive. just funny, because the most people i know are literally never on time.
@erictaylor5462

Lina Celina haha I think that is a problem of time MANAGEMENT, not time measuring. Have you thought about this: Without the ability to measure time precisely, how would you know nearly everyone is always late?
@linacelina7612
@linacelina7612 9 жыл бұрын
+Eric Taylor because we have something like a school bell, and if you arrive after the bell you're clearly late haha. Also, hands down, I'm really bad at "reading the clock", it always takes ages for me to find out the exact time. im such a bad german tho
@erictaylor5462
@erictaylor5462 9 жыл бұрын
Lina Celina Okay but to ring the bell at the right time (so everyone knows they are late) you still have to measure time precisely. Also not knowing how to read a clock again is not a problem in MEASURING time, it is a problem in READING that time. I have the same problem as you in reading a ruler. It is easy in metric, but I'm American and we are still using the stupid Imperial system. with FRACTIONS of inches 1/2, 1/4, 1/8, 1/16/, 1/32, and 1/64. Maybe it should be renamed to the "Stupid Imperial System" to get the Government to switch over like every other country in the world (except North Korea)

Hi! I was wondering how you afforded everything. Did you do any fundraising? I was also wondering how you convinced your parents? My mom doesn't want me to go for a full year.
@EliseBray
@EliseBray 9 жыл бұрын
It was really hard budgeting for the year but my monthly stipend from rotary was really helpful! I also just worked and saved before going. I personally didn't fundraise but I know a lot of people did and it worked out well. The organization can often help with that. As for convincing my parents, they were really cool with my going but you just have to remember that it is your life. You shouldn't let your parents decide weather or not you do exchange because they are not the ones going through it. Just show them what support all exchange programs offer and that it is what you want to do. Lots of people can't wrap their heads around a year abroad but their opinions arm not nearly as important as your own. Trust your gut!

How much clothes should you bring for a year? I don't really know if I am gonna buy that much clothes but I wanna know how much I should pack 😂
@EliseBray
@EliseBray 9 жыл бұрын
+AuroraMagicMovies You really don't want to pack a lot of clothes. Bring clothes that are good for layering and accessorizing. I brought a few sweaters, a couple pairs of pants and shorts, and a handful of tshirts for everyday wear. I used most of my suitcase for cute scarves and necklaces to mix and match.

I'm not sure if the official rules but I'm sure it would be okay in your checked luggage. You just have to check with your airline.
