Just retired from LAUSD - you have to love assessing and writing reports-recommend large school districts with diverse opportunities-pre school-elementary-high school-due process-special assignments-etc-pick a district with a state pension-lots of paperwork-but you do help the kids-most parents are cool too

Yes best job ever-lots of school psychologists-over 600-have to love assessing kids 2-21-multi diverse population-good salary/benefits/opportunities for saturday work (overtime)

@@BarnabyBarrythank you so much for the info! I’m looking into this grad program as well. I’m currently working w families to help them navigate the IEP process so this is right up my alley. If i can pick your brain though, how was the caseload like at LAUSD? That’s the school district i would love to work with but am worried about high caseload

There are high caseloads especially due to the deferred eligibilities due to covid-however there are usually options for overtime where your caseloads are high! Every level is different! In preschool we had 2 assessments daily and one day to write! Preschool cases are usually shorter-many schools so it depends on your students! The affluent Valley and the west side tend to have more attorneys as well! You do get cancellations and student absences as well! Find a school that likes and respects you as a school psychologist and that is the best situation when teachers and staff value you! Always assessments to do!

Is a PhD degree obligatory to get a job in psychology? ( Counseling/ School) do you have masters or PhD degree

For school psych and counseling you can get your masters degree. School psych you need your Ed.s and counseling (school or mental health) is masters, but you can get your PhD for either
