In regards to the horns, apparently they work fine as weapons because Triceratops prorsus also has the downwards curving horns and they, along with the other Triceratops subspecies horridus, lived alongside Tyrannosaurus. My guess is that the attack Avaceratops and T. Profuse would have made would have been to jam their heads forward in a stabbing motion rather than upwards in a slashing motion.

Avaceratops were more of a primitive species of Ceratopsian dinosaur and since it was smaller than other ceratopsia, it was an easy target for large carnivores.
