Blue player here - I wish the game had ended on better terms. I had nothing out for you during the times we clashed, and most of the weirder moves were a combination of lack of experience with the expansions, and with the leader in such a bad position. I've mostly been playing base game the last couple of months, and you can see it by how I misevaluate things like techs more than I should, and shipping less than I should have (the pile of spice on the great flat is something that is a no-brainer in base game, and pretty apparently lower value once i have the chance to deny green shipping there). In addition, the baron pick was pretty much for the same reason you picked hundro, where I know its better in other positions, so I don't want to pass it on. Its definitely not where I'd want to play that leader. this game was unfortunate for both of us, especially since we spent most of the game behind Green and Yellow, who had better position on shipping. I would have much preferred to steal an alliance from one of them, but I was hoping the same thing you were, that red wasn't going to close the game and we could try and gain better position following the final conflict. i figured I could use the spice earned, I could conspire and rebuild a garrison, but they brought the ending much faster than I had hoped - round 6 without winning a level 3 combat of their own and only 1 smf. i think there is something to be said about the tournament point structure but its nothing you don't know. either way, we won't have the chance to play each other again in the current group, so I wish you the best of luck in your other rounds.

Heyo Im the red player. Don't take too much to heart the comments that call you a "kingmaker" or having it out for orski or anything. In this tournament style it's a bit different from ranked where you are often disincentivized to chase down the leader and the argument that people are making that you should have taken the emporer point instead of taking an alliance is just flat out wrong or salt. It's always better to take points away from people especially when placement matters so much in this tournament style. While I do agree with orski that it was probably a better point haul for you to save those intrigues for the level 3 conflict everyone makes mistakes and it's always tough to play optimally in the moment. Hitting Carthag at the end there was such a risky play, your alliance was not safe at all. Had to go Arrakeen and discard whatever you drew to get that bump. Still woulda got second, though, that Ecaz deck was nuts.

This was my idea too, it would have made the alliance safe.

you could have tried to fight for 2nd by going arakeen with the in the shadows and then unloading the drawn card to bump fremen, blue would have needed 2 bumps which didnt look like he had. Close decision, trying to get the combat intrigue vs protecting alliance

Yup I think like Carthag over Arakeen was a mistake. Seems like Orski didn't see that line unfortunately.

There was also the opening line of start with ring to haga basin, spend one spice for shipping up, second turn buy minimic film. I don't much like not using diplo when in hand though. Still, just for completion it might bear mention.

Great comment, wicked game and unfortunately that harsh familiar feeling when the perfect cantgowrongplan cardhouse comes down somehow anyways last turn. Brutal, addictive, epic Dune.

32:27 Here you also have the play to draw at Research Station, the bump will get you to 5 solari, potentially you draw into 2 more persuasion with dagger for High Council, giving SMF. I think the chance is low though, probably only Voice in deck to get there.

@orski you keep saying that blue “has a point here” and pointing at the emperor track…. But I don’t understand how that is the case. He is at the bottom of the track…. Shuttle fleet doesn’t give you 2 bumps on a single track. Where is the point you are referring to

Both emperor and fremen were two bumps away from being a point. I believe that’s what Orski meant. Not saying I agree that was the better move from blues perspective other than being slightly safer.

Such a high level game, and so close, 1 better hand to draw SMF and you end up with 12 points. Also the game showed how powerful trash is.

Wait, you are salty on blue only because he took an alliance from Orski? What else he could do? He didn't have a spice to take an emperor bump and the first spot was taken. This was his only play to score a point and I would do the same in his place, no matter who had the Fremen alliance. Taking someone else's alliance is more important that taking "an easy point". He wanted a VP from 6th conflict and what - he should pass only because he was against Orski? I bet he would go all in no matter how would challenge him. So now we gonna ban players that deny points from youtubers?

I don't really like the leader pick style, I think drawing 3 leaders each and picking 1 is a better format but go for a non blind 2-1-3-4 pick order, although it matters less here. Because here you picked Hundro partly to deny it to 1 and 2, that logic alone will limit leader options and it's already quite limited.

Draft ensures that 4th place gets the very best option available. Your choice is just pure RNG. This method tries to balance play order advantage, that's why it is used.

@@jonathanw3258 Clearly an outlyer, we all know the vast majority of games has the same leaders the 8 to 6 pick is an improvement but even that is often much more limited just because you need to pick leaders to deny them to 2nd and 1st, each having a mini pool to draw on removes this and you can play more freely. In this game 4rd and 3rd were more or less forced to pick baron and hundro just to deny them to the first and second spots. Baron would likely be picked but for 3rd Ecaz makes quite a bit of sense, you delay swordmaster, play more non faction spaces in general and you can quickly get a good deck, but that's not even a consideration now because giving Hundro to first or second is a death sentence, ie giving up 10% of your win chance.

Yeah just unfortunate in the tournament point system it's always more optimal to steal a point from someone else over just getting a point yourself

Yes and like @justinbyun says, I’m this tournament setting, with the points system, it’s always better to steal a point away. That’s not griefing, that’s blue trying to get the best finish possible.

Taking the alliance is both a point and taking the point from another. @ruffiansgaming17 I wasn't aware it was actually a tournament game, that does make a large difference as ranking over multiple games might count.

I really hate group-think. this idea someone needs to play a certain way to be the best and if they don't they are somehow a terrible player. I enjoy coming up with my own strategies and often times I lose. But I have fun and isn't that the most important thing?
