Cheap windows keys are nice but really if the idea is ultra budget then why activate windows at all? It's fully functional other than some locked out personalization options and a small watermark that pops up once in a while in the bottom right corner. That money could have been the tipping point for a better gpu or storage.

You can replace that i5 2500 with an E3 1230 v2 or E3 1270 (v1) for about the price of your i5. It'll perform like a 3770 or 2700 and is well worth it imo, at nearly no additional cost. It'll alleviate CPU bottlenecks the best it can on that platform.

@@jurpo6 they're 35-60 (eBay prices), whereas the Xeons are often $25 buy now and go as low as $15. When you're building untra budget machines where every dollar counts and an i5 2500 goes for $10-20, I know which one I'm going with - opening up another $20 for a GPU at this price puts you from a R9 270 to an R9 290 or GTX 970.

@@ZachsTechTurf There is an advantage to having the extra real estate though, the $43 parts can be parted out for a profit when someone's saved up for something more modern and appropriate. The case is quite a handsome brute for $40 IMO, looks like it cost more.

Another great video. I am in the middle of my first build since 2006. I picked up an optiplex 7020 sff for $80 and paired it with a gt 1030 gddr5 2gb sff for $75 and a 256gb netac ssd for $20. The heatsink is really cramped though, so right now I'm running it with an open case and a riser cable from the mobo. The riser cable was $20, so I still have a pretty good build for $195. I'd like to see if it's possible to mod the case to fit the GPU inside at some point and possibly do some custom paint/leds as well. What would you do with a build like this?

I could see this as a good base for a NAS and/or PLEX setup. Pretty cool find though. Older hardware can be reused but you have to approach it with a plan or you will be disappointed.

You can find 4th gen intel i5 and i7 combos on ebay for not much more than what he spent here and those are still putting in good work on modern games if you stick to 1080p/1440p.

@@nonaurbizniz7440 An E3 1230 v3 is like $30. No reason to go i5 or i7 unless you need the iGPU or want to heavily OC the k SKUs. Taking a delidded 4790k to 5Ghz with liquid metal on air actually isn't that hard it turns out.

@@b0ne91 The issue with xeons are finding a cheap mobo to stick them on unless you are willing to risk a trip over to alibaba or some other chinese reseller. Those are very hit or miss if you don't know what you are doing. TechYesCity has several videos on how to divide the trash from the treasure though. Those i5/i7 have tons of cheap used mobo though. I just bought an i7 4770k msi h81m mobo and 16 gigs combo off ebay a few weeks ago for $98 to use as a secondary pc.

​@@nonaurbizniz7440 What are you talking about? Xeon E3 until v5 all fit into consumer sockets and work with normal desktop chipsets. We're not talking about X58, X79 or X99 - those are chipsets for server sockets (LGA 1366, 2011, 2011-3) and require much larger Xeons (E5) with a muuuuch larger dye size too. An office PC (with an H81) and an E3 1230 v3 that fits into it can be had for $50 or less. Might need a RAM upgrade, but that's case, CPU, cooler, PSU and (some) RAM already right there. So yes, I know what I'm doing. I've probably been flipping PCs for as long as Bryan (from TYC), which is exactly why I said what I said. Unless you wanna go Z87/97 and 4790k, an H81, E3 1230 v3 and overclocking all core boost to single core frequency is the cheap way to go if you aren't upgrading an office PC - the route that's often preferred. The i7 is way overpriced if you can't OC it (H81) anyway.

Games on 1st gen xbox and ps4 run 900p on most games, so 900p on vanguard should be fine enough to play, pretty much a console performance. Nothing to brag about but good enough to play the game :D

Clearly the 2500 non-K is the bottleneck here. I've put together a Core i7-2700K with a GTX 960 recently and it was pushing higher frame rates in Forza Horizon 5 at native 900p low and things improved considerably with Nvidia Image Scaling, it also looks much better with medium settings at NIS 59% (1129 x 635p) where 60 FPS should be no problem. I'd like to see NIS used more widely in benchmarks like this.

Since the point of this was the best ultra budget pc you could buy why waste money on a windows key that could have been used for a better gpu or storage? Windows is fully functional without a key with only a few personalization options that are locked out(some can be bypassed like the background) and a small watermark in the bottom right hand corner that pops up every now and then.

On most of these sites you can get a license for 20 dollars or less. 20 bucks is not really going to be enough to matter for a GPU or storage. And if you are flipping PCs and using Windows it doesn't look professional to pass on an unactivated Windows machine to a customer.

@@certs743 For flipping sure but if you are doing it yourself an extra $20 can mean double the hdd storage or upgrading to an ssd. Same for used gpu as you can find cards that are measurably better for sometimes just a few dollar more. That $20 could also be used to get another stick of ram so you can enable dual channel which has measurable performance gains on many games. Every dollar counts in an ultra budget build.

@@nonaurbizniz7440 I guess it also depends on your used market too. Here 20 dollars difference in GPUs only works if you are going from a GT 710 to a GT 1030. Anything that is actually a gaming card difference between tiers is much more. Heck I have seen people sell shrouds pulled from dead cards for $20. And the only ram I have seen that cheap second hand is ECC server RAM. Which is okay for me since I use an upgraded Dell Precision T5610 and a T3600. Local markets here are kind of inflated still for second hand parts. I got my workstation for a bargain from a business. But individual sellers are still selling high.

@@certs743 Yeah but the difference in performance between that 710 and 1030 is huge. The 710 can't even run many games where the 1030 still can run near every game and at decent to excellent frames depending on the game settings and resolution. It can also display native 4k so you can use it for streaming movies and such which the 710 can't do at all. All the popular free fps/moba games will easily run off the 1030 too. This would make the 1030 the perfect ultra budget gpu while the 710 is completely outdated. As to the ram I just checked ebay and they have 4/8gb ddr3 1600 sticks in the $15~$20 range.

Not even worth doing anymore. Imo builds at this level aren't even worth getting if you are a gamer that is. Just buy a console unless you can afford to build a mid level pc. That's not me being mean or tough it's just a fact that this level of pc isn't optimal at all pretty much across the board and I don't want people throwing there money away. One end of the spectrum isn't good but going to the other end is also not good.
