Lol, right as I’m watching your video I get a notification that the audio for Dead Eleven is available at my library 🤣 My thoughts on pandemics in books…from what I hear Holly went overboard. However, I think it’s important that history is written into books. Not all books, but I don’t think authors should avoid it. When we read books set decades ago part of what makes them interesting is how the world was. But I totally get people not being able to take pandemic in books currently since it’s been so soon, and especially people like yourself in the health care field or anyone that has was effected deeply by it. I read a book called Twenty Years Later by Charlie Donlea. The synopsis was clear there’s a 9/11 storyline. However there’s a voicemail from someone in the towers , so on the audio it sounds like a real voicemail. I had to turn it off and just read it. Two decades later and I can’t do it. If the author hadn’t mentioned 9/11 in his synopsis I would’ve been angry, frankly. But I was well warned. I learned some interesting stuff I didn’t know, like this amazing technology that they’re still using to try and identify people. I don’t regret reading the book, but it hurt, and I couldn’t imagine how much more it would had I known someone in the towers. The whole 9/11 part of that day was maybe 10% of the book, but it still stuck with me. And the author was smart with the mystery, it made sense to use that event in the story he wrote.

I totally agree. I think maybe once we're (I'm) more removed from some of these huge life events we've actually lived through, it'll be easier to read about it. Do you recommend Twenty Years Later even though it's got some difficult source material?

I also can *not* enjoy books set in pandemics. I can hear all about them if I open my door or log into any platform, I do not want it following me into my reading world. I read to relax and enjoy myself, and that is not conducive to it.

10000000% agree to infinity + beyond. We lived it - we don't need to read about it. I know many of us read for that escape/relaxation and getting the word Pfizer thrown @ me every 5 pages was just too much!
