Ehh, idk how the anime explained it but at least in the novel Hao Ren’s place was always a dorm with rooms for rent. He just couldn’t find anyone who wanted to live at his place until Vianan and Lily since it was really in the boonies. Also, dude becomes a verified god killer, sun god, and the owner of an entire planet by the end of the series. That being said, I do recommend people to read the novel or at least watch the single episode of season 2 which skipped the slow start and got into the meaty bits of the story.

Nah, this isn’t even remotely close to god level. At best at this point in the story he’s really just a guy with a really strong shield and an indestructible brick. Actual gods like Raven are on a completely different level who literally cannot talk verbally because whatever they say will become reality. As Raven puts it in later in the story, the gods can change the information of the universe at will. They’re literal server admins with access to the command prompt for the universe. Like Raven goes to the dream plane later in the story for to help Hao Ren will a moon sized research lab into existence (complete with an instant ramen vending machine) for his mission within the minute because existing for longer would cause the destruction of both the normal universe and the dream universe. Also, you do have to love Raven’s way of getting new followers: “give it a try, it’s free after all”
