My concern. It sounds like human 600 to one advantage they could not break the enemy shields? But only this large, bulky sun weapon could? Not something you would have more than 3? Many warships were not destroyed by enemy bombs, torpedos alone. But when the bombs, fuel, explosives on board exploded. The torpedos caused damage, fires. But once it hit onboard munitions. It sounds like many fleets, with lots of expirence? Plus they fight to death? It current air craft carriers only the carrier is 40x as important. The enemy can come out of FTL anywhere…

I think the main reason for using the war sun was for the cool factor, since it's a sotry. but likely also to cut the fight short and minimize losses. I don't think the human ships would have had too much trouble with the pirate's shields if they really tried to take them down.

Resistant does not mean immune. Also they couldn’t see human ships till we wanted them to. Add to the fact we don’t know how many pirate ships vs human ships besides 600 to one. Ok, I have a question about the police force. If they're using an American or European model then there would be a distinction between Military & Police with maybe a National Guard or Gendarmerie providing support to police or taking over in situations of instability. Unless they're talking about some kind of Coast Guard but they're more of a hybrid of police & military with limited roles & capabilities that are well defined. There is a reason why Police & Military are not given the same roles. Unless the Aliens can't tell the difference which is usually a mistake.
