Hi! You mentioned in another video that you applied for your second year apartment in September/October of your first year. How was that process if you hadn't met your close friends yet and you weren't in a sorority? Was it hard to find your second year roommates?

hiiiI! i lived with my first year roommate, my best friend from high school + her first year roommate. it ended up working out pretty well for me, but i knew so many people who didn't know who were close friends by then. there's a ton of pressure to find roommates and sign a lease quickly and while that's insane, it's pretty much the reality for off-grounds housing. i would try to live with people that you know kind of but you aren't best friends with. i had been close with my high school friend for many years and knew we would be good roommates, but I didn't know my first year roommate + LT's roommate chesley very well at the time. especially if you're living in separate rooms, you don't have to be best friends!! just co-habitate :) I'm biased bc i moved every year of college, but it's only ~9 months that you'll probably live with these people. stick it out if you don't like it but you may be surprised!

hope this helps! finding roommates for second year can be very stressful so you're not alone! you can also look into on-grounds housing or even grandmarc/the flats/the standard where they can match you up with people too!

Great video!! Just a little confused, when you apply can you declare your major or is it that no one declares their major until their third year?

great question!! so no one officially declares their major until third year, but when you apply to UVA, you apply into a school - nursing, engineering school, college of arts & sciences, etc. for some, like engineering and nursing, you know what your major will be for third year but for arts & sciences, there are a ton of options to pick from! i'm a part of the mcintire school of commerce, which i applied into 2nd year and was a part of 3rd (and 4th) year. this (and batten) are schools that you apply to once you're already at UVA and each has one major. it's all a little confusing, but i hope that helps!
