Where were the moderators who claimed their only job was to ask questions? A high school kid would have known to ask that question. Why wasn’t the first question to trump - why should Americans vote for a convicted felon for president. Doesn’t character count? Biden can’t answer his questions, point out trump hasn’t answered his questions and ask the questions too. The moderators wanted the spotlight, they could have done their jobs. We know they didn’t do their jobs because trump praised them both the next day - which is what CNN, Tapper & Bash seemed to think was most important

My dad has been full MAGA since 2016, and I remember being genuinely shocked the first time he told me he was leaning his way because Trump represented every single thing he used to rail against. Born with the silver spoon, playing golf endlessly, inviting the Clintons to his wedding, lies upon easily proven lies, etc.. and when Trump started flipping on his politics I was shocked that my dad fell into his orbit. But I’ve said to my father many times that if he had fallen into a coma in 2013 and woke up now he would be absolutely horrified at Trump. His policies and his endless lies. All of it. But because he has allowed himself to be radicalized and because they turned into a party of hate and grievance he is now all about the hate and the grievance. And my father was never like that before. I swear in 30 years they are going to discover some hidden subliminal messages under Fox News and right wing KZbin channels like Rush Limbaugh that will explain why so many older people who used to be decent have just flipped into people that many of us do not recognize.

I love these guys. In general, I think all of the talk about if Biden should drop out and what would have to happen is just content filler. Yet it causes some to pause and think what if which loses confidence in Biden. Yes, the story is Biden did a crappy job at the debate, but this debate doesn't matter. Biden has already proven he can do this job and do it extremely well. What matters is the other guy is a convicted felon, an insurectionist, a rapist, and a narcissist liar. That's the story that should be pushed every day. Not how one night President Biden did a crappy job. Yes, the debate was important, but let's keep our eye on the true story.

What Trump is didn't change at all on Thursday. What an octogenarian was able to do is not a good test of what they can do now. I'll bet most people used to be able to eat peanut brittle. How many can at 86? Your brain goes downhill with age, same as teeth. Keeping your eyes on the true story got you a convicted felon leading polls by almost double digits. Trump is a candidate I assume you are scared to vote for. Biden is a candidate the people you WANT voting blue are scared to vote for. Trump is too. Do you want to play chicken with who is more scary to independents between Biden and Trump? Because polls say it isn't Trump.

The way professional Democrats close ranks right now is downright scary. It's really fucking scary. Donald Trump is unfit for office, but although for different reasons, Joe Biden is too. That's just a fact. If democracy is really on the line, and I believe it is, it's really really scary that people that say they believe that too are not willing to do what needs to be done here to actually save it.

@@mtns340 Just have the messy open convention. It would fit 100% with the narrative that democracy is on the line. The campaign slogan could literally be: this is what democracy looks like. If someone seems incompetent: we hold a vote, and vote him out. We debate, we bicker, we fight, until we resolve. That can look messy, but it is for the better. If there's a problem, that's how we tackle it. This is what democracy looks like. If you don't want that, all this fighting, bickering, all this messy stuff, there is a Big Fascist Leader you can vote for this time. He will end all that. But that's not how we roll. We are not only Democrats, but also democrats. We will discuss, bicker, fight, and then hold a vote. We do it like that, because we believe in it. Either do it like that, or be exactly the same as Republicans: refusing to see and acknowledge the blaring obvious flaws of your candidate.

All he did was confirm all the negative rumors swirling around him for the last couple of years. We must have a conversation about options. I genuinely believe Biden will cost us this election. Sadly now we lost that advantage, we are still the party that actually legislates, done a lot, was fairly united, but we lost the strength and vitality argument. We need to ensure that we change Biden because he is just to old as a candidate, not because he would be bad president. I would like to see on the day of the convention, Biden open with a speech endoring Kamela and Kamela already having a ready strong ticket with some centre left liberal as vice president to appeal to working class. Joe Biden has done great things and had a great career, but past performance is not an indicator of his ability for the next four years. Communication is probably the most important skill a president needs and I'm not convinced he could have productive discussions over the phone with world leaders. If we have another 9/11 level crisis, his staff can't just say he's having one of his bad days and try again tomorrow morning after he's slept 8 hours. People have questioned how involved Reagan was his last year in office, we don't need that, that's not democracy. I'll vote for ANY Democrat. We need to get the undecideds.

They have these deluded fantasies in their heads of magical super progressive forever 35 year old candidates that are also nationally viable that they think can just come flying in on a cloud to rescue them every time they have to work hard to actually live up to their supposed principles. I love American democracy. I love Western Democracy. I fear dictatorship creating the true American Empire, and the death of Western Democracy that comes with it. I'd vote for the Corpse of Biden over a young hale Trump in his prime any day.

It's time for us to take a dose of self awareness. 1st. Obama asked RBG to step down so he could replace her. She refused. It's lack of strategy and ego that got roe overturned. 2nd. It's okay for our leaders to ignore the law when we disagree? Thats not how it works. If we support that we are saying its okay for the other side to do it also. But instead of cheering you'll be crying.

RBG served us well & dignified the SCOTUS with her service. When would you have had her retire?Even IF the Senate had approved any replacement of RBG that Obama endorsed, the MAGA-selected appointees would still outnumber the others. Remember McConnell not even allowing Obama candidate Merrick Garland a confirmation vote in the Senate? The undemocratic, power hungry, traitorous Rethuglicans blocked Obama's constitutional right to appoint a Supreme Court justice his last year in office. McConnell should have been sanctioned/impeached for being a traitor to our constitution to which he swore an oath to uphold.

Can you match rich donors' withdrawals and young voters' revulsion because despite a night of unverified campaign earnings, I suspect things are quite rocky. Ideally, the current VP would be popular enough that they could move her up and draw a new VP name from a hat (probably a boring middle aged white guy, just to calm some voters down). But sadly, while she makes a reasonable VP, people aren't proposing a preemptive succession plan. And that means it doesn't even matter if she could do the job. I feel like there's something wrong with the current political system, that new young people aren't being mentored and endorsed into elected office before the current office holders get old and senile (not just the president). Well, I guess I know a lot of what's wrong in the legislative branch; the seniority system is so powerful that your state is better off with a high seniority nearly-dead cat in office, than a competent, energetic young person. Ohhh . . . I guess this might be the dynasty system breaking down.

When do we decide to challenge the voters to do their job? When do we call upon them to make a decision? Who do they want making major life and death decisions for them? An Actor? Reality TV star? Athlete? Con man? Criminal? Insurrectionist? Or an experienced politician, president who gets the job done without lying about his track record? Did you require Stephen Hawking to be a vigorous athletic capable speaker in order to want him guiding our scientists in their quest to explore the universe? Or was it enough that he was good at his job? Did people want to be buds with OJ Simpson, a remarkable athlete and an accomplished actor, when he was found 'Not Guilty' of murder? Let us stop trying to decide who should be our president based upon their ability to: Lie, cheat, insult, evade consequences for crimes, look 'strong', perform well on camera... Presidents are leaders, and leaders set the tone with judgement and experience. Everyone around them does the actual work. Biden as both, Trump has neither. Talk project 2025, talk about the work those around both have done, or haven't. Talk about tax breaks, talk about the recovery post COVID. It's one of the things I've really not liked about the DNC. 6 or 7 months ago, the inner circle of the DNC got together with consultants and who knows else and ran the numbers and decided whether they should talk to Biden about running again, automatically stifling any primaries, or if he would take his baggage with him and retire. Where was that conversation? In back rooms with superdelegates. The GOP is as bad or worse, but the parties these days don't really go out to talk to the voters as much as they did decades ago and the disconnect is causing damage over time. At the time I thought he should have kept it to one term. The baggage of COVID response, price of gas, inflation, etc (not that those are all his fault but the baggage is his as far as "undecided" voters) would go with him. The new primaried candidate could step over those things more easily and Trump probably would have been squashed. Likewise all the "Biden crime family" BS would go down the drain. This is the DNC though, and seniority and "it's their turn" is extremely important to the superdelegates.
