@Oners82 Leftists cannot explain why they believe as they do because their beliefs are based on indoctrination, not on exposure to objective truth. Those on the right can not only explain why they believe as they do, but demonstrate how conservative ideology has actually benefited humanity, and further demonstrate how leftist ideology has done nothing but bring about delusion, misery and destruction. Mr. Sowell has long done both in very specific ways. Anyone who can listen to Mr. Sowell and insist Leftist ideology actually benefits humanity is not basing their view on objective truth, but on indoctrination.

And libs call anyone that disagree w/ them racists or conspiracy theorists. That’s why so many of us are losing respect for you. The scariest part of this to me is that eugenicists, while plainly doing things which are evil, seem to genuinely believe what they're doing is "good." That makes them even more dangerous. As C.S. Lewis put it, "Of all tyrannies, a tyranny sincerely exercised for the good of its victims may be the most oppressive. It would be better to live under robber barons than under omnipotent moral busybodies. The robber baron's cruelty may sometimes sleep, his cupidity may at some point be satiated; but those who torment us for our own good will torment us without end for they do so with the approval of their own conscience." This means that they won't stop unless they wake up and realize they're doing evil.

Those ideas did not exist in a vacuum; that they were so strongly held at that time was a reflection of their general acceptance. The 'problem' of ppl with very low intelligence, mental illness, physical deformity, the conquered, strangers etc was a human universal. How each society dealt with such problems depended on the resources they had available - including knowledge, & on the practical difficulties such things entailed. Those problems were probably often solved based on the simple practicalities, ie we can't carry a child that can't walk when we migrate to seasonal territory, therefore .. And, probably, some fancy justifications were devised by some ppls to assuage the pain involved, eg bad spirits, Gods will etc. You think only elites devise self serving justifications? Perhaps they're just better at articulating them, hence more influential? But ultimately, let's just say that in times of war & strife the elites probably didn't hold sway, whereas in times when the products of their ideas & mental abilities underpinned civilisational success, they had more influence? Bashing ppl based on a category you define, in this case intellectual elites, is the same shit, just with less convincingly articulated theories. Who was it that the Soviets killed first in Poland in 1939-40? The intellectuals. Why? Because they were the greatest threat to the ideological regime of the conqueror. And who did Mao & Pol Pot destroy for political purposes? Anyone with glasses or books. Then what happened? Economic disaster, general barbarity etc. Identity politics, defining ppl by groups, leads to bad things. Most ppl are inclined to do it, it's a big part of how we deal with the world - we create categories of things to simplify the complexity of the world - our senses/brain do this, otherwise the computational demand would fry our brain. Other ppl must be categorised too, since humans are nature's most dangerous animals. Try communicating with someone that doesn't understand your language or has minor hearing difficulty .. before long the frustration turns to "what's wrong with this person, they must be stupid." Civilization .. time to think, experience others without fear etc, allow us to understand things as never before, to learn etc; trade & conquest bring new ideas .. hence we learn not to fear others, tho the tendency remains because it has a deep evolutionary basis. That is, the neocortex v the amygdala!

Eugenics was pseudoscience. Scientists still have no sure way to estimate the balance between environment and innate characteristics arising at birth. Thus, most will guess 50:50. Environment includes culture as well as physical components. And today, the science of epigenetics suggests that there is inter-generational carryover in gene expression, which acts as a confounding factor, clouding the mix of environmental and innate factors
@Nurhaal
@Nurhaal 2 жыл бұрын
Eugenics was never scientific. If you'd listen carefully, Sowell castrated Madison's work in 'Passing of the Great Race' for not being scientific whatsoever as it presents no evidence at all. In fact, obvious evidence at that time did demonstrate the fallacy of eugenics. Instead, Madison relied on technical speak to sound smart - a fitting definition of Madison fulfilling the Dunning-Krueger effect.

There are countless examples of people following the science over the last 100 years that had disastrous results. Herion was prescribed as a cure for morphine addiction. Smoking was promoted because it was good for your lungs. Countless Rx drugs that had to recalled because of deadly or disastrous side effects, yet at the time they were "following the science".

One of the best academic lectures I've heard in years. Parallels can be drawn to today's progressives. Both seem to believe that gov't involvement in people's lives should be promulgated. Both have warped views on the pitiful nature of "lower" races (today's progressives believing in "victimology" and attributing all racial issues to prejudice and racism). Amazing what you can learn when you study these things as Dr. Sowell and his researchers have done.

Competition and conflict between races (and also cultures) are inevitable when diverse races live under the same government. Diversity creates conflict as surely as night follows day. However, these conflicts can be minimized by replacing democracy with an iron fisted autocracy like the Roman Empire did. When the Soviet Union abandoned Communism for multi - party democracy, its leaders realized that they also had to break up the Soviet empire into a number of independent states with dominant ethnic majorities. Ukraine never did that but was divided into two large ethnic groups, West Ukrainians and Russian Ukrainians in the east, and we see the result of that. Yugoslavia also tried to survive as a multi - ethnic democracy, but fell apart. Switzerland holds together only dividing itself into ethnically homogenous cantons which each manages its own affairs and by remaining strictly neutral and isolationist in foreign policy.

It's not that Eve needed to only ever just turn her brain off and be on automaton of loyalty to her wonderful Creator, but what she did know and had experiences so far were all on the side of being loyal and obedient, in spite of Satan's argument, and had she took some time, talked with Adam, talked with God, meditated on known truth, she could've grew as a person while avoiding sin and "learning the hard way " . Realizing things such as how much God deserved her trust and loyalty and obedience and who is this serpent anyways ? Even without knowing any evil, having suspicion etc., they were perfect and humanity at it's finest, and adults, so .. had brains. So, I imagine she could have done those things, had she chosen to obey God in that moment of persuasion to disobey.

I wouldn't necessarily call it evil. I would say misguided. Intelligence often breeds arrogance, which blinds people from their own ignorance. No matter how smart someone is, they only offer one perspective of a situation. They often only place themselves with like-minded people, so they often do not have their ideas challenged or their ideas are so new that no one can yet challenge them. Even when an idea is challenged, one's arrogance prevents them from seeing the faults in their thinking. Not surprising, as most ideas have deep roots.

The peasant system in Italy made upward mobility almost impossible. The could only get 3 years of education and it wasn’t mandatory. If you father needed you to work the land frequently you would be kept out. In 3 generations my family has produced amazing results . Engineers, Nurses, Lawyers, University President ,and business leaders . Mayors and other political leaders . Maybe because the left have a childish view of God. They just dismiss it outright and don’t understand the nuances of the archetypes, history and the way people in the past saw and therefore lived in the world. They’re very materialistic, in general, and God is a concept that is beyond human apprehension however much we try, we will never understand as by definition, God will only reveal Their self how and where One wishes (trying to not gender God as all humans are in the mage of God). However, without God, what separate us from animals and where do we get morals? Easy to say it’s obvious not to kill, rape etc, but for 90%+ of human existence, it wasn’t. In fact it was good to do so to conquer other tribes, kill the men, or enslave them, and rape the women, which is more evolutionarily advantageous as to widen the gene pool and stop inbreeding. Survival of the fittest requires murder and rape in a pre Christian God world. That’s why it was so revolutionary. Jesus taught ‘another way’ by ‘loving thy enemy’ thus trading with them, befriending, then merging through marriage to make a larger more diverse community.

Don’t let anyone steal your dreams. I hope for true education and critical thinking to be prolific, as it once was. That does not mean participation trophies, but quite the opposite: those that apply themselves and learn from their own mistakes as well as others’ will be the ones that lead society towards an inclusive and more prosperous society. what IQ tests cannot measure is the impact of culture on education outcomes. If the parents do not value learning, it won't happen. If the broader culture does not value education, parents will not. The reasons why any given culture may or may not value learning varies quite a bit, but at the heart of the issue is a set of common values that are often imposed externally by political and religious leaders. So, when your "greatest" leaders do things like call history "his story" you get the outcomes we find in the world today. In Silesia, digging coal was how you earned a living. How much "education" in school is necessary to dig coal? Why would parents value schooling when digging coal was the key to survival?

The statement by the Muslim scholar who said that the further north you go the skin gets lighter and the temperament gets more brutish may have been on to something but not what he thought he was on to. The further north you go the colder it gets and the less sunlight there is, this results in more effort being put into survival than that in warmer climates so there’s little time for being intellectual, the lack of vitamin D may have also played a role in the perceived intellect and disposition of the locals he encountered and then there’s xenophobia. Xenophobia is linked to the survival instinct either innate or learned, it is not wise to be too welcoming of a stranger as strangers often bring dangers. They can be scouts for invading forces or raiders etc. So the further north he went he encountered more distrust and hostility because the more of a stranger he became. Don’t confuse xenophobia with racism. Xenophobia is linked to the survival instinct and can easily be overcome as its basis is fear. Racism is learned hatred backed by fear and xenophobia, it’s harder to overcome because it’s not about accepting and trusting someone different, it’s about re-educating learned beliefs similar to converting someone to a different religion.

Carrie Buck was white as was the rich heiress Anne Cooper Hewitt. True eugenics was about the human race. Others would corrupt it. Such as sanger. Gives pause for thought to HG Wells “The Time Machine”. Or “The Black Stork” with Harry Haiselden and baby ballinger, who in reality let baby ballinger die in one of the 5 forms of euthanasia simply by refusing treatment of his patient using baby ballinger as the poster child for it.

Once one believes in the perfectibility of Humanity,.. there can be no moral objection to whatever may be supposed to further that goal. Communism didn't murder hundreds of millions of people in the 20th Century by means of mere *_innocent_*_ mistakes._ If you believe otherwise,.. you are probably part of the problem and not the solution. So long as there is Free Will,.. there will be, at least, the possibility of evil; from this many good people conclude that Humanity would be better off without free will and the accompanying responsibility. Consider the question of whether virtue can be made mandatory,.. and, yet, still remain virtue?

Great stuff!! 😎 Odd that the Eugenicists speak of "superior nordic peoples". Illogical and ahistorical too, for it was the southern European Greeks who gave us Western culture (intellectual and artistic) as we know it: science, highter mathematics, logic, the diatonic musical scale, the concept of justice, poetry, drama, ethics, map making, sailing, navigation, equestrianism, chariots, scuplture, painting, physics, chemistry, medicine, political science and epic literature. In fact, it was the Ancient Greeks that give us the term "eugenics" (good creation)! And the Africans, who gave us geometry, taxation, architecture, lost-wax bronze manufacture and monotheism. I fear these Eugenicists were no "good creation". They seem to have never read a history book or visited the Acropolis Museum in Athens or the British Museum. They prove themselves rather stupid, certainly ignorant of history and thus intellectually more primitive than the groups they disparage. They have had elite educations but cannot reason. How exactly do you graduate Yale without having read a history book? That is as concerning as today's wokists. Oh, I see! These were the wokists of yesteryear. Yeeees! And while I do like red-heads, what important intellectual or cultural bequest did the Vikings leave to us? Nothng! This is precisely why no individual Vikings come to mind by name, in contrast to the Greeks (Homer, Apollonius, Euclid, Aristotle, Plato, Archimedes, Sophocles, Ptolemy, etc.) I guess you don't need higher mathematics when you're snowed-in drunk and shouting "skol".

@wraithconscience
@wraithconscience 2 жыл бұрын
@@harkyo Confirmation bias? Scientific method? I wonder if eugenicists were even conscious. Intellectually deviant, derelict, lazy, they didn't even make it to the first step of deductive or inductive thinking. Like a child that learns evasion strategies in infancy, these blowhards didn't even make it to first base. If you've ever studied the works of true intellectuals, in detail, in the original language (Archimedes, Plato, Aristotle, Descartes, Leibniz, Pascal, Poincaré, Frege, Freud, Aeschylus, Clerk Maxwell, Newton), what you see is that these Eugenicists don't even count as lightweights. They aren't even in the ring. They are fakes, plain and simple. Posers, losers, charlatans. In the end, for all their superciliousness, they are victims of and completely controlled by a primitive emotion -- fear.. And if there is one thing that characterizes the great intellectuals mentioned above, it is courage -- emotional courage, intellectual courage and most of all, the courage of the imagination and of observation, the courage to pursue true mysteries no matter how daunting. Eugenicists seem not to have even mastered a basic book in history. Obviously they knew nothing of the development of mathematics. Eugenicists are the worst kind of cowards -- intellectual cowards. Take the case of eugenics fan, William Shockley. He contributed nothing to the development of the transistor, pushed his way in to the team using his managerial position, claiming credit for the work of others. Much like Jung did with Freud (which Jung admitted in his own writings).. Shockley, the great eugenics fan, didn't even have the decency to say, "my team did it. Aren't they great?" It was Bratton and Bardeen who were the geniuses. Bardeen, the quietest, most modest, most politically conservative of the Transistor team, proved to be the real genius and went on to win a second Nobel Prize in physics -- all on his own. Bardeen despised eugenics. Eugenicists are nothing more than the Al Sharptons of caucasians, proving every group has its losers.
