INHO NFS needs more low level cars to start, not a freaking M3. (Take Underground or Most Wanted for example - starter cars were Civics/Pugs/trashboxes not performance vehicles.) And more older cars, modern ones aren't everyone's thing.

I agree that the 240SX isn't a great car by itself, but it's Japanese cousin was pretty cool and should've been in there instead. just like the AE86 should've been the Japanese version. also you can start with a 65 mustang, or a 180SX Type X, and the BMW M3 is late 80s. not even a E36 whatever was before that one. so they're not the best starting cars, but I would like some more starter options as well as some older cars, perhaps that'll be part of the DLC for this game.

Well, UG kinda needed to have trasboxes as starter cars since the best car you could get was an R34. On the other hand, MW used pretty decent cars for the time, I mean you could use a Golf GTi as a starter car, that's not really a shitbox. Besides, games like Carbon already offered the Mazda RX-8 as a starter car. If they used modern day decent sports cars like in MW, you would be looking at cars faster than the E30 M3.
@niToitsyeSkxawng

thats because the games are based on the time they were released in. Back in the early 2000s your starters were these "cheap" cars because it was popular to mod them, now youve got all those newer and higher end cars because look at the internet. All the social media platforms are stuffed with widebody lambos, BRZs, BMWs and so on. They did it to cater to the majority of "car people"

Speedcross parts with Drag tyres end up making the best drift experience, which makes absolutely no sense whatsoever.
@kommandantkillcode
@kommandantkillcode 5 жыл бұрын
Akashi Well it does, because Speedcross parts are designed to be less grippy than on-road and even off-road equipment which allows for the off-road sliding that they do. The Shocks would be the same minus some fine tuning between the off-road and speedcross, but certain parts for controlling the type of power output in the vehicle through the tires, drivetrain and other surfaces that endure friction would be the parts that would affect Drifting and Speed-cross the most. So combining the best parts from both would increase the drifting ability of the car and probably the off-road ability too.

@@ex_vitae that's the problem, the "tap brake" drift mechanic was introduced WAAAAY back 2010 in Hot Pursuit. So we kinda got complacent with 4-5 NFS games with the same drift mechanic. The ai drivers and their cars have specific speed etc. When you start an recommended 240 event, the 2/3 cars in front have that power score. But the cars in the back still have the 200/160 score. One of the reasons I cannot get into this (or others) is that the camera shakes when driving and the sides become blurry. It's a bit too much of an arcade feel to it as opposed to Forza for example. If it wasn't like that I guess I would like it more but it just irritates me. The camera was zooming in when you slowed down. Like...why? If I want to change the camera angle I will do so myself. The game certainly does get better once you can acquire much better performance parts for your vehicle. I've completed the game, made enough from the many well-paying race events to buy a Laferrari, and have gone on many different night runs since. It's exhilarating reaching very high speeds as you weave throughout traffic with the cops glued on you due to the rubber banding. I would say it's a good thing to have the cops as overpowered as they are; it presents a challenge with the risk and reward system that influences how many races you want to complete before being busted. Crowned also posted a video on his channel showing the best locations to escape high heat levels, which helps a lot if you're a lower level or simply if you want to get rid of the cops very quickly. It's quite simply some of the most fun I've had against cops in a long time in racing games for the last several years.

That's the thing: _all_ of the cars do that. Some less or more than others, but the fact remains. What's funny is, in AWD cars (particularly the Lancer Evo X), it's not as noticeable, since the front wheels are maintaining both direction and power, though this..."course correction" model does still exist. But, people have been tinkering and coming up with builds that seem to defeat this - what is basically aim assist for steering, if you will - handling model.

Tbh I consider 2015 a pretty good game. Other than the unpredictable handling and the crashcams I had no real issues with it. It felt like a return to the old NFS style and comparing Payback with it, Payback was the hot pile of garbage for me. Yes, the handling was more predictable, but it was so predictable and easy, that I literally had no challenge in that game... At least in 2015 you could somewhat learn the unpredictabilty of that handling and react accordingly. Yes, sometimes it just banged you against a wall for no reason, but for the most part you could prevent it... Heat kinda lools like it's in the middle so far. I don't like the fact, that some cars seem to be affected by brake to drift even if maxed out on grip, but other than that, looks like I might actually buy it. The aesthetics are good, the atmosphere seems similar to 2015, which I really love to see and the customization seems to be back in full swing... On the drifting part of the review, it’s actually brilliant. It has a much higher skill ceiling than a lot of recent NFS, you have to feather the gas & get the angles just right or the car will throw you out of your drift. It takes time to get used to but once you do it is incredibly fun & satisfying. At first I thought the same, that it was botched & terrible. I got my 180SX to do it a bit & had fun, then I bought a Viper & was really sliding. Give the drifting a bit of practice & I promise it’s so so good.
@smudge2021
@smudge2021 5 жыл бұрын
how can you get the angle 'just right' while using a controller your either at lock left lock right or centre steering!? also do you always have to feather the gas, because if holding at one angle then its fairly 'realistic' but as soon as you start to add more angle to get around a tighter upcoming corner or transition do you have to for example hold in the gas as you adjust for angle or for sexond example let off let it oversteer and catch again?
@amricnwhre
@amricnwhre 5 жыл бұрын
kyoAnimosity kyoAnimosity No, the steering doesn’t lock left or right, there’s in betweens. You just gradually move your left stick for more of a slide & if it’s too much you gradually let off of it to hold the drift. I think you need to let off the gas to get it to snap to the other angle, but I could be wrong. I don’t know if it’s realistic but it’s a lot more fun & intuitive. I used Showcase parts on my cars & they slide just fine.

So I played a good 5 hours of the 10 hour trial with origin acess and I easily got to the level 10 trial cap in about 3 hours, however this game is really satisfying to drive in. I like a blend of grip and drift personally, but you can tune your car for either no slide or super slide-y. and the game lets you know how much customization is available for a car before you buy it (anywhere from the FFX K only having License plates and rims/brakes/tire to the 180SX having a Silvia S13 front end and even changing the fenders and hood on that still. Admittedly I have a few gripes with the game, having a lower end hardware optimization issues, and cops being a little bit unbalanced, but i still think this a good NFS game. I do plan on eventually getting it, just don't have the cash at hand to pay the $53 plus tax to get it on PC. I even convinced my friend to get it on his PC after showing him gameplay and customization etc. and we're both hardcore NFS Fans (played NFSU1 all the way back when i was like 6 and that was over a decade ago, and been hooked on cars since)

30:00 It's not effective because the dmg system is messed up and doesn't really work at all. Sometimes it just doesn't make any sense, pay attention next time in a police chase. There is a mission (small spoiler) where you need to protect your friend from a police officer and there you have to "destroy" that officer (HP to 0). I rammed him three times in a row into his right side and the first one was even a strong ram, but no HP loss. Right after that my friends AI turned right and the police officer did the same but rammed my car into the side. What happend? The police car lost 10% HP and I got out with no dmg. The system is just messed up, while you get dmg for no real reason or get dmg for being on the offensive and ram a police car into the sides (the police car gets no dmg obviously).

@FailRace - Tip for the drift events (they are still insufferable, but I've found this helps immensely). For some reason, full drift builds are absolutely disgusting and never work correctly. Use a combination of Drift, Track and On-Road suspension parts to put your handling balance directly down the middle or slightly to the right. I've also heard of using Drag tires to help out. It definitely makes it more intuitive; take a lot of speed into a corner and whip it sideways, and it'll hold like you would expect. IDK why full drift makes the whole car a piece of garbage, but a more balanced setup worked for me for now w/ a Viper.

I am commenting while watching this: To the drifting part, I had the same issue starting drifting in heat, since it has the same kind of steering correction it has on all the cars in drifting. It basically feels like the car is set on a line in the exact middle of the car which it gets pulled on and when you steer you basically drift out of line and get pulled back in line by the handling model. However I managed to make it work by not countersteering as much at all and rather just not steer at all when I would usually coutnersteer. That way it does what usually happens when countersteering rather than putting you "back in line".

For drifting - - first, get rid of the ground effects. You need less down force, not more. Second, you don';t need massive power. You just need to break loose, and then sustain the throttle while carefully balancing the counter steering. Last - just like in real life - the cheaper the tires the better. You don';t want sticky.

And also something optimized for controller, so it feels good to drive the car and ofc fun. We have a shit ton of games with "real" car controll physics, we don't need every title to try to do that. I’ve had the same issue with drifting. It snaps right back in counter steer, but if you don’t counter steer, you spin out. Also, the method of initiating is drift is so unpredictable. Like you said, letting off the gas in corners, and then accelerating out (as you would) initiates a drift on a grip build, but if you’re in a drift race, in a “drift” car, it won’t cut loose like in those two corners. I’ll wind up taking out the barrier or slamming a wall because it won’t kick out IN A DRIFT RACE IN A DRIFT CAR. The drift “setup” sucks, and you have to use speedcross, which is for off-road drift and screws up the look of your sleek, low wannabe drift missile by lifting it to the heavens.

It'd be interesting if a racing game did not have a rating system to go after but instead a system where your opponents level up with you. Their price money affect what improvements AI do to their vehicles, just like you do. With a somewhat personality system with it too, that some npc's prioritse engine and gearbox upgrades while another ai choose brakes and tires. If a npc lose a lot in the start it may be coded in to save the money for a better car, instead up maxing out their upgrades. It would certainly increase the replayability for singleplayer and quite possibly you find a rival to compete with. Uncertain if same system would work in multiplayer. Maybe for longer tournaments or special events.

The way I justify the difficulty spikes and dips is that for the spikes, the level is recommended and it is so for all drivers so there will be some who are in high level cars because they want an easy win. For the races where you're a low level but demolishing everyone else (usually drift and off-road), it's because they don't know how to build their cars. I had an off-road race where my car was 218 and the highest level was 310. I was lapping everyone. In my next playthrough, I'm definitely going to ramp up the difficulty though so the races seem closer. Anyway, just wanted to say, I like the early game. I think it might just be a me thing, but early game always seems fun. Just a bit saddened by the choice of cars.

Don't counter-steer. If you're doing that, that's your problem. The game manages that for you, and instead thinks you're trying to turn. The other key thing to note is, if you have too much angle or too little, the drift will end. You have to find that happy middle ground of angle to extend your drifts. Also, I'm seeing a lot of other people recommend certain Speedcross parts over Showcase parts for better drifting. Not sure how effective that is, but that might help too.
@adammidderigh4150
@adammidderigh4150 5 жыл бұрын
@@Marrrrtin Ok I'll try the speedcross parts, dont think its my steering input though. I've tried A LOT of different styles, counter steering to start with but when I realised that wasnt working I resorted to just honing throttle control... still doesnt seem to work. The issue is that in Heat drifting the happy middle ground just doesnt seem to exist, the cars just jump straight from too little angle straight onto massively too much angle. You also cant seem to adjust your positioning mid corner as you should be able to, so if you dont get your entry line 100% spot on then you're f***ed; gently lifting the throttle just throws you off instead of slowing the car down and allowing you to re position it. There's a whole thread on the EA bug reports forum of many people with the same issues. I would get it if I usually sucked at drifting, but I was in the global top 100 for drifting in the crew 2 , yet cant even pass a single trial in NFS xD needs tweaking imo

To the first point about the AI: I palyed online with a friend who was ahead of me so I had to drive races vs 300-360 AI with a car that was 260 at the beginning and only got better over time and had no problem going second after my friend on first(who was in a 380 car at the time) before any of the medium AIs. When putting the AI to Hard difficulty I had the experience that on long straights the AI would annihilate me but when cornering I was able to catch up but often times only made it to 3-6th place behind the AI and my friend(while still being 50+ "gear score" below recommended). As soon as my car got on the same or even above the recommended levels even the hard AI is jsut super easy. The only well programmed AI are the cops in that manner, where heat 5 chases are an actual challenge when not abusing any tactics to avoid cops. But I see how it can be hard to balance an AI without rubberbanding, although I think a hard difficulty AI should definitely not make a difference between 2 miles distance to second place or 1 mile distance at the end of the race.

I guess with automatic; you would tap then tap the throttle to keep the wheels spinning? Drifting is very realistic in the game

I used it all the way to the end in the Payback and never regretted it. As far as the drifting i haven't played the game yet but i would suggest trying a Japanese car like an RX7, 240Sx or Silvia. You want something thats lightweight. The Challenger will have a lot of power but its just too heavy. So that might be your problem, but like i said i can't say for sure.

Didn't agree with the 2015 review, the Payback one was about 75% agreed on, but this was spot on tbh.

The game doesn't list it but there are parts of the map like jumps you can take which will lose the cops which act like pursuit breakers.

Use speedcross parts instead of drift parts for your drift cars. They'll tend not to grip up as much and it'll be easier to hold the slide.

And one last thing I am definitely disappointed about interior not being customizable. Either interior like in udnerground 2 where you could go crazy or at least having the opportunity to go for different colors/material on seats etc really is missing, basically got to put black windows on all cars to not see the interior not matching the exterior

I want all races to be like the toughest one in NFSU1 (1 I think it was) where you drive against a golden brownish Honda S2000. That race was madness. No matter how perfect you were driving you would win only by like 0,1 s or try to blocking im off. You aren't first from the get go? You will probably never catch up.

Heat looks very good How do the cars handle, or can you change that In previous NFS titles, i have found the cars sometimes act like tanks and do not want to turn How does Heat compare to NFS Undercover, Underground 2 and Most Wanted? Also, for drift races, i would try using a MX5, as they are very loose in the tail

The thing I noticed with tuning for events is if a car doesn't seem like it was "intended" or a mainstream go-to for a particular type of event, it does poorly. like, that Challenger probably doesn't drift that great despite having drift parts because the game expected it to be built as like, a drag car or a circuit racer. I bought a 93 skyline for offroad races and despite applying every possible "rally" part that was available to me, it still performed terrible offroad.

About the drifting bit, you don't have to counter-steer, the game manages the drift for you, the steering just serves to point the car where you want it to go, so you steer when you want to change direction while drifting. It sucks, driving physics suck in recent NFS game, but that's how it goes. It's hard to get used to (so hard that it made me abandon NFS, which was my favourite racing franchise back in the days), but that's how it works I think, it was like this in previous NFS games (NFS 2015 and after), I haven't played that one. However I played NFS Underground 2 recently, on PC, and there, the driving physics were SO GOOD ! Good god I wish they (Criterion games, the studio behind recent NFS games) played it, just to feel how a good arcade racing games feels like.

So I realized High Power/Speed cars are terrible for drift, but if you customize a car with high acceleration vs those other two, you shall be fine. I have a drift NSX only at lvl 277 and 3 star everything. Now the real tricky part is being able get the car to drift in the direction you want because the drift physics are a mess, but once you figure out when a drift is enabled, the easier it becomes. Also tap-acceleration drift is better for this event because you don't slow down. But once you realize feathering the throttle and steering/counter steering....you can put together some insane drifts. It took my about 3 hrs to figure out how to drift correctly in this game. Because once you get stuck in the slide section of drift part, the physics keep you stuck in that animation meaning you can straighten the car and still drift it back into a slide without having to tap-accelerate. Once I realized this I was good. And action cam helps you know if you're stuck in this animation loop or not. If you're in the animation, just control the direction and speed of the drift. Easy!!! The cops can be evaded easily by jumping onto roofs lol.
