Got one since 6.2023, had other Teslas before. The Y SR (BYD blade LFP) so far is the best Tesla I had. Boot lid and boot space was the choice for buying the Y, M3 was too small. The Y SR is very efficient with 15.6kWh/100km on average (43k km so far) and the BYD LFP charges so good that there is no need buying the larger LR (from LG) for more money

I have the same car. Agree on the space, it’s amazing., as is the efficiency, the tech and the value for money. Worst thing about it for me is the ride. I find it way too stiff round town or B roads. It’s been back to the dealer 3 times for boot rattles! Its not too bad when it’s warm but when it’s cold it bangs and rattles like mad. Would I have another? Maybe but only if the comfort was sorted out massively. My wife hates it.

You are the only reviewer who mentioned about the auto wipers, I cannot agree more! I rented an M3 for a week in Toronto, straight out of the airport, I immediately struggled with the air vents as the car starts to mist and i almost crashed trying to find the blower setting while already on a motorway! Also immediately struggled with its navigation because it didn't have signal and the car doesn't do CarPlay/AndroidAuto! I wonder what network is Tesla UK with? I recently went to Cornwall and Vodafone is hopeless where as EE is fine. Me and wife are always on different network for back up, but Tesla doesn't do phone connections! I also wonder what data roaming will it do while in Europe? lastly I think it will help your car to recalibrate battery if you drain it low and recharge to 100%. LFP battery has a very flat voltage curve below 80%, unlike NMC. So the car needs to count the amount of current charged to 100% to recalibrate range estimates.

I'm not sure renting a Tesla as a first timer is ever going to be a great experience. Things like vents are tied to your driver profile so you really never have to touch them. The wipers are a letdown but they have been improved a bit. The GPS doesn't need a network except for live traffic so there's something weird going on there. If there is no premium connectivity (possibly the case with a rental) then you go to wireless and connect your phone via hotspot. Then all the things like Spotify will work - the phone itself should be connected via bluetooth for hands free. All that should have been done before you set off but rental places tend to just give you the keys and tell you nothing.

The range in miles you talk about when you toggle the battery icon between % and miles doesn’t vary with conditions or driving efficiency. It is a simple calculation of Teslas static presumed efficiency multiplied by what the car believes is the available capacity of the battery in kWh. So when it reduces it is an Indication of the degradation of the battery. The battery management can get a bit out of sync depending on your charging patterns and this is why it is recommended to charge the LFP models to 100% at least once a week to help keep that calibration accurate.

@@DefinitelyNotAGuru you're 100% on the wipers. They are almost useless and are definitely camera based. I wouldn't hold out hope of the proper rain sensor ever being added. They are hell bent on removing rather than adding hardware. It's not too annoying when you can toggle manually, as you say, but if any kind of proper auto or full self driving becomes viable here then it will be more of an issue because that functionality requires the wipers to be on auto. By the way, after you soft press the wiper button you can use the left scroll wheel rather than the screen to adjust the wiper speed.

Agree with all your comments - especially auto-wipers and the 19" wheels being gthe ones ot go for. No car is perfect (and eveyrone has unique needs), but there is room for improvement and/or standard features that should be there now (given everyone else is fast catching up) I do think boot-open should be simpler... I haven't yet foudn out how to open the boo from inside easily when seomone is bringin stuff to the car. It should be a button on the door. Locking/unlocking the car form insise is fiddlyh, you have to click a vey small icon on display. For soem people who are claustrophibic this is a big deal... shoudl be a button. Icons on display in general are small/fiddlyh... even in larger type mode icons are still small. I'd like ventialted seats (perhaps massaging as wel, bu mainly venitklated) I don't lke that all colours except white are a BIG premium, as is white interior. All it means is you see White ones everywhere!... which makes it "common". Could do with a light grey interior option imo. Centre console has no proper compartments to organse stuff (you have to buy after-market sliding trays) Boot has no luggage hooks for shopping or dividers Boot cover is annoying... should be roller blind style, and should store under floor. The standard 19" allow wheels aactually look great, but are covered by earo plasitc covers that are not so nice, and don;t cover the wheeel rim, so you still scratch it (unless oyu buy what you id, as I did too)... but I don;t think you shoudl have to... just make a decent looking aero alloy, and forget the trims. No front foglights (unless you get the long-range or performance) Still miss a driverdisplay, but head-up would be a good alternative - it;s crying out for it. Satnav - mixed results.. I don;t think it alwys chooses the fastes route... even tho it is programmes to. good for charge stops/route plannig, but not so much the daily commute. No rear wiper - yes it gets dirty and rain does NOT flow off it... just fit one. If really cannot make THATG must difference ot drag? Efficiency - yes probably best in class, but word is the standard range is software-locked to not use all the battery.. and you can PAY to have it unlocked. Just unlock it for free, for everyone! Premium audio £10/month - really?... on a car of this cost - you don tlget traffic alerts on GPS without premium. Just build it into the price of the lease/purchase, but Tesla a eprobablky paying opeanure for data anyway, so it shoudl be free. Car is slow to unlock when you approach with phone as yourkey. you have to wait for it to wake up, meanwhile Sentry mode is giving you the eye!... and it's telling you to swipe the keycard. It should detect you within 3m range and be ready when you touch door handle. Phantom braking in auto-pilot even on local roads, when ther eis no obstruction. It;s sensing somehting but not sure what. All minor gripes, but do make a difference when yoi live with them every day.

The 283 miles range is using the WLTP standard and the 260 mile range is using the EPA standard as used in the USA. Yes you have lost 3 miles due to battery degredation.

In the UK, the Tesla charging network started to open up to non-Tesla’s since May 2022
@DefinitelyNotAGuru3 ай бұрын
Well ok, yes, but only for relatively few for quite some time. It’s pretty recent that the rollout has gone up a level. Do you know if I caveated every word I say in these videos they’d be even longer and even more tedious.

Hi Jim. Do you think I can save if i dont have Home charger but have at Work 7kw free charger working 4x a week and have tesla supercharger around the corner? Cheers!
@DefinitelyNotAGuru3 ай бұрын
Yeah maybe and the inconvenience factor is obviously not an issue then.
@stevecarr30193 ай бұрын
Depends on how miles you do but if you can charge for free at work you are likely to save an absolute fortune. My average petrol bill was around £115 per month and now I only spend £15 however I am a home charger and I’m charging at 7p per kWh.
@rivermoon91132 ай бұрын
@@stevecarr3019 i only travel 10 miles going to work. And going long drive maybe 2-4 times a year. Tesla supercharger is around the corner of my house. I leave in a flat though thats why. And 4 - 7kw chargers are in my work place free.

if you can charge at home it's a no-brainer, if not then it depends what routes you drive, my favourite feature is that the car is getting better and better over time with updates, roughly about every 6-8 weeks
@markanthonyharrison51533 ай бұрын
I do a daily commute of 24 miles round trip so only 120 miles a week to and from work and then another (probably) 50 miles tootling about locally. Yes, I have a driveway so definitely going to get a home charger too
@tiborpalatka3 ай бұрын
@@markanthonyharrison5153 one more thing to consider - you might drive more than usual with EV - my case - we drove about 2500km monthly, with Model Y we are doing now 4000km a month, we no longer feel restricted by fuel prices and our carbon footprint

I have to turn the wipers off too. I just push the screen wash button on the stalk and then scroll down to off on the left dial of the steering wheel, no need to touch the screen. I’ve had a model 3 for 3 years in December on a company lease. The cars great, the tech is fantastic. One year in I thought I would never buy another brand, 3 years later I’m a little bored of it, the model Y new shape isn’t until next year. It feels like Tesla stagnated after Elon shifted his focus more to X. I think they’ve allowed the competition to catch up quite a bit over the last 3 years. I now find myself with a Kia EV9 on order. The tech isn’t too far off, they actually have some wins over Tesla and the design of the car is better.

Well I-ve never done 100%-0% , probably never had it under 20% in fairness but I'd say 210-230 on the Motorway is realistic as long as you're not doing 80 all the way. Keeping it under oir at the speed limit makes a huge difference.

Lots of speculation about pay-per-mile (for EVs maybe for all cars), since the lack of fuel duty revenue is sending the treasury into a rage. Factor in pay-per-mile, road tax on EVs next year (inc luxury car tax on many) and insurance, do you think there will still be any financial gain over ICE cars?
