Vegan leather seats, AKA plastic seats, now there's a throwback to the original Mini if there was ever one, so hot in the summer they would cause third degree burns, and in the winter, well let's just put it this way they were freezing leading to your voice going up a few octaves, "Ouch "

I have the Countryman S E with the same round screen in the middle and have been driving it since April and done 5500 miles in it. I have two problems with the screen - 1 is the icons for the temperature/ heated seat/steering wheel are way too small to use safely while driving and 2) according to the owners manual I can use the voice control to adjust the temperature etc except the “Spike” assistant still tells me he cannot do that function yet as he’s still learning - so far nearly 9 months to learn is unacceptable. Otherwise I love the car but miss the screen and displays from its predecessor, a 2022 F56 Cooper S E. I would say to anyone looking to buy one of these new Minis, budget to soec the Head Up Display - it needs to be standard fit gear but only comes if you spec one of the new Minis optional Level packs. After my first drive I inhibited all the silly Wahoo and Experience noises, complete waste of time in a car as quiet as the electric Minis

Just like most they are stuffed full of academics, ex industry insiders who have half an eye on returning and therefore do not want to upset a future employer, or Civil Servants who are tied up in Govt regulation and red tape. Is leasing new really any better than buying new? As if you buy then sell it 3 or 4 years later you take a hit on depreciation, but leasing you spend all that money over the lease period then give it back, so either way wont you be out of pocket by a similar amount? I havent looked at what typical lease deals actually cost vs outright purchase price to know the difference, but I imagine the lease deal is priced to basically cover the depreciation up to the point when you give it back so you dont really save anything?
@DefinitelyNotAGuru6 сағат бұрын
Watch some of my lease deals videos and the answer will soon be obvious 👍
@Fromatic2 сағат бұрын
@@DefinitelyNotAGuru Fair enough, just watched your "Case Study" video from a couple months back, and see what you mean about potentially saving money over say a 3 year period assuming you sell, and even if you kept it 10 years you still might not have saved all that much vs leasing something new every 3 years if you can find good deals, that was an eye opener. Though personally short of a lottery win I wouldnt consider buying new anyway, most new I bought was a 3 years old which was 8 years ago, its been faultless touch wood, will prob keep another 3 or 4 years all being well and then look at going electric, lots of good options coming out now that will be half price in a few years

My Tesla Model 3 RWD had it's front bumper damaged by a stupid Range Rover driver who decided to park next to me in a non space and when leaving pulled across to tight and tried to remove my front bumper, putting a hole in it and damaging my headlight. I was well looked after and was given a replacement Tesla to use. I calculated that through the cost of the car, they could buy a new Model 3 LR every 9 months, just from the so called rental!

Interesting about EVs. I watched a video about Tesla's being written off by insurance companies with very little damage. These cars are then sold off to Ukraine where labour is cheaper, repaired, and sold off to other countries like Canada. It's only been noticed because the previous owners info is still in cars IT system.

A bit of a double edged sword this subject Jim. On the one hand as a customer, no one likes having to shop around for insurance every year, and in the past if you didn't change insurance companies you got charged more. Money Supermarket made this easier because they retained customer info. For the first time this year my current home insurance provider AXA are cheaper than the opposition so I will remain with them and this for me is a positive step. As far as car repairs are concerned I would rather have a second hand OE door fitted than a none genuine part. In the past you could tell when a none gen wing was fitted to a car because it rusted with in five years. This was particularly noticeable on Audi and Volkswagens. Also often the panel fit on a none genuine panel was terrible. You also talk about insurance companies providing loan cars. In my experience it was the accident repair centres that were forced to run a fleet of loan cars to get the contract from the insurance company. They also got screwed on labour rates as well. However I left the motor industry in 2007, before it totally destroyed my sanity, and may be thing's have changed.
@DefinitelyNotAGuru8 сағат бұрын
But consider if the price was 30% cheaper in year one in the first place… I know for an absolute fact that this alone has pushed premiums up a lot.
@PeteMulv10 сағат бұрын
I don't know how much sorting out who is to blame for an accident these days but when I was in Germany, way back, the police had to attend every accident and they decided who was to blame and the insurance companies had to accept that ruling. So that saved money with them arguing about it. Also one of the things that help there is that it is highway law not highway code, so simple things like an accident caused by one of the drivers failure to stop at a "Stop" line. He was to blame, decission made. Keeping them coming Jim, very interesting.

Hi Jim I've just watched your informative video on extended car warranties. I am looking to purchase a policy for my 7 year old Volvo that has a full main dealer service history. Can you please tell me why ALA shone through for you as being the best. For me, I am swayed that ALA is the highest rated on Trustpilot. What was it for you that gave you the confidence to support this company? I thank you for sharing your thoughts.
@DefinitelyNotAGuru10 сағат бұрын
It’s a proper insured product, the majority are not. That means that with ALA there is some where to go and complain with some teeth (the FOS) if you feel unfairly treated. With an uninsured product you’re more or less on your own.
@kevinferris904515 сағат бұрын
Surely it’s the insurance industry itself that should be working to reduce the mismanagement of claims and costs. My experience of the FCA and regulation is it’s always behind the curve and never works to reduce costs for the man in the street. It’s an industry problem and only they will be able to resolve it, as they have the expertise and how to keep costs down.
@DefinitelyNotAGuru10 сағат бұрын
No actually. The FCA keeps implementing things to make the cost of insurance fairer for the man on the street - these same measures have increased costs. They have oversight of the entire chain and the value it delivers to the consumer but this HUGE aspect which is probably the single biggest factor in final pricing seems to be completely ignored.

Remove the Coles decision in the high court and you’d cut claim costs by at least 10% over night. That ultimately legalised robbery between insurers so every other insurer had to start inflating their costs so as not to be at a disadvantage. Not many people know about that one nor understand the impact.

They want us ordinary folk driven off the roads.... I was given a free door last time I went to collect a DSG gearbox ! Sadly Ebay is cheaper for a set of wheels than a "scrapyard" !! My sister was hit by a muppet and her "Management Co." arranged a brand new X3 for six weeks. Six months later a claims investigator called and made an appointment to discuss the "paperwork" submitted.... basically her signature was forged on the bogus inflated claim and I hope they got prosecuted in the end. Insurance quote for a front quarter replacement for an old Peugeot 308 (?) was over £600 - more than the car was worth.

I been working in commercial motor insurance for 22 years the costs has increased over the last few years. The main cost increase are the credit hire and accident management companies. Uk need to adopt a model where everyone has fully comp cover so when they need to claim they utilise their own insurer to stop these third party companies raking millions from the insurance pot. These policies could come with the option to select what size of hire vehicle you would require. Then the insurance companies can decide the liability of an accident between themselves. This would cut costs instead of insurances companies having dedicated teams just dealing with the inflated hire charges

Hi Jim, I’m new to your channel and it’s nice to see a Brits view of the American car scene. I’ve been a fan of US cars for years, ever since the 80’s visiting my aunt and uncle in San Diego. I agree with you too that minivans are very much missed in the UK. American love their massive pickup truck based SUV’s, the Toyota Sequoia that you saw is based on the Tundra pickup. Here’s some more and the pickup it’s based on;- Chevrolet/GMC/Cadillac Tahoe/Suburban Yukon/YukonXL Escalade - all based on Silverado/Sierra pickup Ford Expedition - F150 Nissan/Infinity Armada/QX80 - Titan. Toyota Sequoia - Tundra GMC is basically a more rugged and luxurious version of Chevrolet SUV’s & pickups The VW Taos that you saw is basically a SEAT Ateca/ Skoda Karoq. Love the video and I have definitely hit like and subscribe. 👍

After 27 years of working within the industry, I can confirm there is a huge skill shortage within the insurance industry at present because it is not considered an attractive industry to work within coupled with a poor public perception.
