What do you think of the Kangaroo Point Bridge? Love it? Hate it? Where do you think the next bridge over the Brisbane River will be?
@jimbo903010 күн бұрын
The West End to Toowong bridge makes so much sense. At present you have no real choice other than jumping in your car and driving 15-20 min into the city to cross the William Jolly Bridge and back, as opposed to a 5 min walk or 2 min ride across a bridge. That bridge will really help reduce congestion in both areas and be a win for drivers as well.

I lived in West End for 10 years, I think it would be a fantastic connector.

I used to work at Toowong and live in Auchenflower. I would walk home faster than the cars on Corro Drive. It's ridiculous. A green bridge to Werst End would solve so much of the Corro car park.

@@MelPikos It would be a great connection point. More important than the second UQ bridge.

Dude. I've just moved to South East QLD from the UK and was in Brisbane on Wednesday for the first time. Walked along to the botanical garden and thought how cool this bridge was. I had no idea it had only just been built and opened. Looked to me as if it's always been there.

Would be great if it could carry busses too, similar to the Eleanor Schonell Bridge. I think the main issue is lack of elevation and needing to build a bridge up to accommodate boats.

I'm a bit obsessed with this bridge. I work in the city and I've been visiting it every week since they started building it so it felt victorious to finally walk over it. Idk there's all that much at KP to visit rn but it makes sense to join it to the CBD seeing it's so close. It'll be interesting to see what transpires now it's so much more accessible.

@susanravizzotti22879 күн бұрын
Definitely need more bridges that aren’t necessarily located near the city. In the western suburbs we need to travel extensively to one of two bridges to cross the river. If there were more crossings then the road congestion would be quite reduced

Kudos to the council on building this bridge it's a fantastic piece of pedestrian and cycling infrastructure. I cycle to work in the valley from the south side of town and this bridge offers a great alternative way into the office. But I do have some gripes, the cycling connection between Gardens Point Go Between Bridge to the new Kangaroo Point bridge is sub par. There's no separation of cyclists and walkers which can be a little dangerous at times with cyclists close passing walkers and walkers walking into the path of cyclists. Also the paved path through the gardens is pretty rough especially on a road bike. So I do hope that this path is improved to make is both smoother and safer for both cyclists and pedestrians. Anyway it's a good 1st step.

This is a highly informative video Mel. Awesome work! What a fascinating history! Skating across the various bridges of Brisbane is a great way to appreciate just how lucky we are in Brisbane. I reckon Brisbane is becoming a skate spot mecca (but I might be biased). Get your skates on Brisbane and enjoy the Kangaroo Point Bridge. (I hope the Insta360 videos on my channel do it justice). This might be a silly question but are these pedestrian/cycle bridges accessible by Emergency Services Vehicles under the appropriate and extraordinary circumstances? Ie, could an Ambulance, Fire Engine or Police vehicle use them to cross the River in an emergency situation?
@MelPikos9 күн бұрын
It's a great question. There is sufficient space at each end of the landings, but I don't think they'd be able to drive over it.

Maybe Newfarm - Hawthorne / Bulimba - Hamilton or both with at least one being a public vehicle bridge (no tolls).

I’m loving the idea of more pedestrian bridges. I’m concerned about a decision to build this bridge to Kangaroo Point. There is a relatively low population on KP that will benefit most. The other proposals seem to have a wider community benefit. It even “points” the wrong way. A bridge directed to the Gabba end of KP would make more sense. This is a very expensive land mark tourist attraction.
@MelPikos9 күн бұрын
Next year the KP bridge will connect with the cycleway, connecting the Eastern/Southern suburbs to the CBD, so its not just for KP residents.

It's an amazing bridge thanks! So, in two days it was already up to 22,000 crossings... Also pretty cool having the restaurant on it, means the council earns back rates to contribute to the maintenance.

Great addition to Brisbane connectvity wise. Where's the greenery though? Where did adding plants to cool the city and clean the polluted air get left behind? This bridge has so much potential to be a huge air purifier for the city, yet is only now amplifying the urban heat island affect :/

Disappointing that a cheap mooring field for yacht cruisers has been cut iff, good for the marina owners i guess, but the river is seen as a barrier rather than a lifeline.

Meh. Average. Where'd most of the money go?
@BrettNoneya10 күн бұрын
Waste of money. Lots of people cross it now just because it is new. Give it 6 months and it will have some walking it but all it is for is to join the filthy rich that live on Kangaroo point to the city if they wish to walk or ride. They might have talked about building a bridge there for 100 years but that was long before all the other bridges were built. Just makes the rich LNP backers happy.

Kangaroo Point is held by the Greens for Council, Labor for State (was Greens until most recent election) and Greens for Federal.
@BrettNoneya9 күн бұрын
@@MelPikos It is called trying to buy them back. Manipulation. If you live from Thomas st south it is shorter to walk to the goodwill bridge and gets you to about the same area. So the bridge is really only servicing the people from Thomas st north. Lot of money to save those thousand people a 1 k walk.
