These are heavily influenced and derivative of vehicles we invented in South Africa in the 80's called Buffels (Buffalo's) and Ratels. They were designed (and proved to be) excellent tools for our police and military to use on the borders and in state of emergency as apartheid was drawing to its climactic conclusion. Quick to deploy as they can be used on roads and rough terrain and also resistant to many forms of combat assaults.

Mel, I’m a big fan of the Lithgow small arms factory museum and I think they need some support, given its run by volunteers. It might be interesting to see how and where our current small arms are made and perhaps the history and museum could get a plug.

We haven’t defended Australia for 70 years , we should call it the attack force , word magic makes us appear benign when in fact we’ve invaded numerous countries which have no interest to the Australian people . Stay at home for once and defend our country from our government.

I wouldn't mind hearing how the Australian Army intends to engage the Kamikaze drones that are playing havoc in Ukraine? Or does it involve a guy dismounting with a shoulder fired weapon? More specifically; a) Will SHORAD be an integral part of all fighting formations, a resource deployed at the divisional level, or will it be organically integrated throughout all fighting vehicles? b) Are electronic countermeasures being installed on front-line vehicles? c) Is the roof armor designed to defend against aerial threats? d) Are active protective systems being installed to defeat aerial threats in addition to the more conventional ATGM? e) How are drones identified, and does the radar being used paint an electronic target on the vehicle that could be exploited? Also f) for the Red-back in particular, wouldn't a few stinger missiles be a better option to the spike missiles planned?

Considering the size of the Redback IFV, i'm not sure what it intends to engage if it intends to take on larger prey like its namesake. Godzilla?

That thing wasn't tested at stradie a couple of weeks ago was it? I saw a boat taking something north from where I am. A couple of smoke plooms told me something was on. Bonfires are very easy to spot from here. Always good to finish an excercise in style

Biggest waste of money in a "cost of living crisis", lining the pockets of private shareholders with tax payers money. Health system in crisis, education completely unaffordable, houses impossible to buy for more than 50% of population...we are creating a class system and this is no longer the lucky country. How about fixing our country first instead of buying shiny new toys for boys. Look after the people's needs first, instead of the politicians mates and shareholders in the military industrial complex. Australia first, not Germany first. Sad to see my country crumbling apart. Germany may have lost the war, but they are laughing at us now and surely have got us by the balls.

Does it have Anit- cheap drone deterrent ( cheap $500 drones like the ones utilized in Ukraine against Russia ? ) If it doesn't then its useless in the coming years in warfare !

Ill informed video. Australian defence contracting is utterly broken, there are critical workforce shortages, and the ADF is top heavy with executives and generals who don't know shit from lead. Australian defence manufacturing is paralysed completely.

Big mistake with the government slashing this project by two thirds. These vehicles can take down kamikaze drones with ease and be a force multiplier on the battlefield. We have seen Ukraine's Bradleys pummel Russia's latest and greatest T-90M tank. This Redback would equally shred tanks for breakfast.

If they are being built here, we can always build more here. After the first 50 or so are built, any improvements and upgrades can easily be built into a second tranche. As long as the production line operates, we can always tack more onto the end of the line if needed.

Sorry mate, But land vehicles are fodder for air attacks. People get killed in metal coffins like that. The future is large drone tech with multi round capabilities. Are we going back to the cold war. They are slow and cost millions..... far better to develop drone tech and armourise them with cannons that can have multiple abilities. Round variations, for whatever is necessary. Operated remotely to save lives. Who's to say that China, Russia and Iran haven't already got the tech to focus on facial recognition. And they could already have weapons in Australia. It seems our Polies need to think outside the square to protect the people and the industry that supports aussie invention.

A few points to make. Firstly, one of the big advantages of an aircraft like the MQ-28 is that it's cheap as chips. Unit cost will be around $2million so we should be able to deploy 40 MQ-28s for the cost of one F-35. It's also project with massive export potential, bringing billions of dollars worth of foreign sales to our shores. I'd also point out that we already have a very robust high-tech defense industry that has won more than a $1billion worth of projects to make parts for every F-35 that Lockheed Martin build so the MQ-28 will build off an already strong base.

Waste of tax payer dollars, any military hardware would be wiped off the planet if any power decides to rock up on our doorstep. The cost to maintain our military must be reduced…significantly
