These colors remind me of the colors that I used in decorating my first apartment after leaving home in the 70’s . I had a room divider made of hanging wooden beads in these colors and orange shag carpet. It was to die for. 😂 My sofa, the only seating in the living room was a plaid sofa with the same colors. It was wonderful. The walls in my kitchenette were painted a deep orange and I had laminated menus from local restaurants as decoration’s instead of pictures. I even used macrame hangers for my plants which were everywhere. I thought I was so hip. 😂 Thanks so much for bringing back those happy memories.

Very beautiful piece the struggles appeared to be worth it from where I sit! :) I am actually inspired by this because i have some beautifully spalted burch but with punky spots which feel like such a waste, perhaps an approach something like this (resin heavy) would help stabilize it (I really don't want to actually do the cactus juice stabilization :p). Nicely done! :)

If you do something like this again, I would highly suggest that you stabilise the birch. You already have the pressure chamber that can most likely also be used as a vacuum chamber with a simple thick plexiglass lid (you could use other material, but it’s nice to see what is happening to your project) and Vevor sells (and several other sellers) a relatively good pretty heavy duty vacuum pump set pretty cheap. I use ‘cactus juice’ which you place your materials in a tub in the vacuum chamber, so the material is submerged in cactus juice, and you apply a vacuum until there are no more bubbles coming out, then you slowly release the vacuum and the juice impregnates the material (this may take a few days up to a week, depending on the porosity of the material). Finally, you get the material up to 86’c for a bit to harden the material, and Roberta’s your auntie, nice and hard, about the same consistency as the hardened resin you will eventually use.
@bawbreizhartwood2 ай бұрын
Andrée Thanks for this good suggestion, I will make a video to explain the wood stabilization process. here in this video it is not the bubbles that are the problem but the difference in density between the materials😉
