Baudelaires originates from France dandy as an outsider, someone who observed society seeking to understand contemporary life. Wilde uses dandy as a means through which he can comment/critique the social values of the day w/o being absorbed by them. Tend to be intellectual spirits that permeate the text rather than drivers of the plot
