Btw y2 is for a 2nd stage cooling. W2 is for 2nd stage heating. Depending on the settings if for example the house needs to heat up 5 degrees it will run at 50% capacity. W1 More than 5 runs at 100% W2 I have installed a few of these and have yet to get one to work fully with out the c (common). If you run into proprietary equipment links Lenox furnace and thermostat your wiring probably will not work. Usually labeled abcd. It will still work but will need to rewire the furnace first.
@Lunalysis5 жыл бұрын
Without a common lead at the thermostat, the nest will invariably have problems. Nest needs constant power to operate, which it gets from an internal battery charged by the common (24v?) connection. Without that C wire it taps current from the fan lead, so while the fan is running, the battery charges. This isn't a problem in the winter or summer when the fan tends to run a good deal. In the spring and fall, however, when the heat or air conditioner doesn't run much, if at all, when the nest battery needs to charge, it will send a false signal to the HVAC system and supposedly cycle the fan on and off to provide the necessary charge. What happened with ours was that it also turned the heat on, so the house was heated until the battery was charged enough. This caused a few 80°F+ mornings which wasn't too energy efficient. Called Nest and they paid for a "certified" Nest tech to come out and look at it. The first guy they sent out wasn't qualified to service anything more than a coal stove. The second guy spend two hours on the phone with Nest, switching wires and scratching his head saying "I can't understand it. This should work." I finally put the old thermostat back, which just worked.

Ever since I installed my Nest I have been having a problem with it. When I want heat, Nest turns only the fan. And when I want it off, the fan takes forever to turn off. I don’t understand what’s going on. I installed this device according to the instructions.

I want one but after some investigation, I found that my system only has 4 wires and I don't wish to give up the dedicated fan wire. I also found out that whoever installed the system ran the thermostat wire through the ducting which would make it extremely complicated to fish a new set of wires to get a dedicated c wire. I think the only way to get around this problem is to relocate where the thermostat is placed and patch the existing hole. This would also bring the system up to code and make it easier to do in the first place.
@thebear67925 жыл бұрын
Why would you have to give up your fan? The nest can run with just the blower going and no heating/cooling. You can set it to run for 2, 4, and I think 8 hours.
@Sebanisu5 жыл бұрын
You might need to hook up extra power wire. My battery in the nest died. There is videos on youtube. The nest leeches power off the Heating and Air. But, sometimes it isn't enough juice. Though looking at the diagram you might already have that wire hooked up. I had another issue once where the nest wouldn't tell the air conditioning to turn on so heat would come out. That required a RMA.

I'm curious what the issue is with your cooling. Keeping a house at 71 is not really that difficult. Its possible your AC unit may be literally freezing up - ice in the coils. Do you see any water around the unit? Check and make sure the return air ducts are not blocked by furniture and are clean. Also, check and replace your air filter as well.

I am interested in how you feel about nest. My nest ended up being a bad purchase. I was unimpressed with the "learning" feature. I also had it decide on an usually warm winter day that it would change to cold/heat when I had it on just heat. So if the ac did kick on, my winterized ac would not have handled it well. I ended up manually setting the schedule. I also really don't like not being able to see the current status of the system. I would like to see if the fan or ac or heat is running. Seems odd the only live data is the temperature setting and the current temp. I do like auto-away feature and the ability to remotely change the temp. Also, the thermostat looks good. I just wish it was more like some of the Honeywell smart options out there

My problem is where you turn the temp down it won’t cool, it’s stuck where the higher temperature is at, it says it’s cooling but won’t go down the specified temp. I’ve even reset the device and it’s stuck on the higher temp mode. Where it’s stuck at that higher temp is at the end where he’s sneaking up.

It sounds like you may be low on refrigerant or your filter may be dirty. If you haven't been changing your filter often (1 - 3 months) your unit may be clogged internally and could need to be disassembled and cleaned. When you have someone come look at it they should have a wireless temperature sensor and should demonstrate to you that the air at your return air is one temperature and the air coming out of a vent is significantly lower (~55 degrees, depends on model etc).

@thebear67925 жыл бұрын
So there could be a couple things going on with the AC. If it's running all the time it could be that it might be undersized for the house. It could be running low on refrigerant because of a leak. Or the placement of the thermostat. If it's in the hallway it doesn't get the same air flow as compared to a room with a vent. If it's a leak and you have a R22 system they will more than likely tell you to upgrade because production of that refrigerant is no longer happening. You can still get it but it will become more and more expensive. Any good HVAC tech should be able to do a couple tests and figure out what's going on. Also might be that your condenser is dirty and needs to be cleaned.
