so, I bought my 2015 Kia Soul base with 203k miles on it and it has 263k miles on it now. It's been pretty reliable so far. Having to replace left front ball joint and replace brake fluid. Other than that, it's a great car. i usually change what I drive every 3 years. this has been a little over 4 years and I'm hard pressed to sell it. it's comfortable for my height. I'm 6'3" and this is the first economy car that has fit me so well.

In 1999 I rented a KIA Sephia in Denver. I HATED it! Over the years when both KIA and Hyundai started offering 10 year 100,000 (or even 120,000 on some newer KIA models) and didn't go bankrupt I started to look at them again. Then the Soul came out and to me it almost seemed like a cult car. Then the Hyundai Genesis came out with a V-6, six speed and rear wheel drive and KIA came out with the Stinger and I decided they were moving up. I went for my first new car ever this year but was bummed to find out KIA dropped the six speed in the Soul in '21. So I got a '21 with 11,000 miles and a six speed. I do find it entertaining on the autocross course. (It turns in fast with a really tight turning radius so I can get in and out of a doghouse faster than my RX-8, Alfa GTV6 or Datsun 240Z while running very similar times if the course is laden with hairpins and slaloms. The 2.0 is pretty punchy if you don't get below 3500 RPM.)

What I have always appreciated about Mazda, you pull down on the shifter to upshift, and it will bounce off the limiter rather than upshift. If you drive any car with a sequential gearbox, that’s how it works. I absolutely hate most “manual” shift modes these days because of the way they are set up.
@HiroshimaSpirit6 жыл бұрын
Mazda, BMW, the higher-performance trims of Porsche models, etc; They all get it right. All driver’s brands. You can tell a lot about how much a company cares about driving by the manual modes on their automatic shifters. lol
@iDrive4fun936 жыл бұрын
DaedalusZero it actually is true lol, it’s the details that count. Most brands that have a pedigree get it. I personally like Hyundai’s offerings these days. I own an XD2 Elantra GT. And it’s great fun to drive. Fully independent rear suspension, 25mm thicker anti roll bars, manual gearbox. I rip around in it every day.

just quietly getting on with business. my defender is now my leisure / tow vehicle. p.s my kia soul a 2012. had considered many alternatives in previous years should a family change occur and didnt want to lose the landy. the soul earns its keep in its savings and accessability.

We have a 2015 Kia Soul +. I will never purchase another Kia again, the ride is awful, the service department wouldn't address the issues, the engine is rough, the gas mileage sucks, the drivers seat is uncomfortable, etc. Can't wait to get rid of it!
@Lincolnator72110 ай бұрын
I find the drivers seat to be really comfortable. I came down from a 1989 Lincoln Town Car. Yes, the ride is pretty firm on these cars. I have a 2015 Kia Soul base.

As an owner with that rear wheel position it parallel parks very nicely more so than similar length cars I've owned. Yeah, that transmission phony manual is a joke, so are most. Acceleration is okay, nothing to write home about but no dog either. I'm pretty tall from the waist up. The headroom is great! I had a loaner for awhile and was extremely relieved to have my Soul back. Downside... It has eaten three starters (covered by warranty) but three? c'ome on. Downside, watch oil consumption. On the same note if you change oil yourself there is no clearance to crawl under it. I made four ramps. Okay I'm spoiled by a 2002 Toyota Echo that uses none at 200K but... watch it carefully and check at least weekly. Oh, cargo room. In the you probably shouldn't department but... I fit a full size standard range in the back with the seats down. I can also put a snowblower in there if I knock down the handle! Canoe rack? Hmmm, there's no clean metal solution to tie down front and back. You have to "trap" front and back ties under the hood and the tailgate. It works but... What else? I bought premium winter tires mounted on rims for the Wisconsin winter. It's no Subaru but it helps a lot. All in all it's fun to drive, comfortable and has a few (mentioned) caveats. Good vehicle at the usual money.

6:30 High school kid's car? lol my boi, a high schooler should be driving a piece of garbage they (or their parents) won't be making payments on and won't have to pay out the butt when they inevitably wreck it. My first car at 17 was a 1995 Subaru Legacy, which I crashed within the span of about a year. It still ran (as Subies of that time tended to do,) but it smoked like crazy from that point out. My second car was a 2002 Saturn L200. Nice highway driver, but garbage in slippery conditions, so I slowly slid down a small hill into a guard rail once, as I wasn't good at driving in the snow at that point, which wasn't long after my first car. New drivers should never have a fancy car, because there's an extremely high chance of it being damaged, and the insurance-paying parents definitely don't want that. (Loved the review, btw. Finally an enthusiast that doesn't crap on this car because it's more of a daily driver than a performance vehicle. Short, sweet details and a dose of humor made this one of the best Soul reviews I've seen.)

Fair point, but considering that most people who buy their kids cars generally don’t seem to think that way, I figured it would be a good recommendation. Most people today probably don’t want their kid driving around in an unreliable shitbox, but they also don’t want to tempt them with something sporty or unreasonably expensive. Behold, Kia Soul. To be brutally fair, though, I also crashed my first car. lol Thanks for watching! ✌🏻
@OMIGHTY16 жыл бұрын
lol exactly why a sturdy, safe old car like that 95 Legacy was. It was pretty ugly, but dang, was it safe and reliable, even after I munched the front. I agree, parents buying their kid a car for nothing in return probably aren't too concerned with insurance price lol.
@HiroshimaSpirit6 жыл бұрын
I learned from my experience, though. My parents bought the car, but since I lived at home and had a job, I had a monthly payment to the Bank of Mom and Dad and paid for my insurance. That crash cost me my entire savings and I haven’t had one since. Learned real quick. lol THAT’s how you teach kids what real life is like.
