this changed my life, thanks buddy. I caught barbel with authentic romanian cheese and I had some incredible days, both chubs and barbels. My gear back then was so bad, but still caught em.

Fantastic advice and in particular good on you for advocating fish welfare... that's a great tip to rest them in the landing net. For my money the second most improtant thing is the use of barbless hooks - I only use barbless and dont think that ever looses me a fish, and it makes unhooking a joy. Tight lines everyone

Agree 100%, never lift a barbel straight out of water, always rest it for 5 to 10 minutes first, especially in hot weather when oxygen levels are low.

Those was a realy wise words: let's give the fish time to recover if we wont to talk about fishing for sport and we have welfare of the fish in mind. You have outstanding series of FISHING GURUS, it's really enjoyable for me and I can learn a lot from it. You're doing a good job, keep it moving this way! Greetings from Poland!

Good on ya Deano for stating the recovery period, before unhooking etc. Fish welfare has to be the big priority for us all, watching them swim back as healthy as before we hooked them is the icing on the cake. Tight lines.

Spot on about the recovery matey. Get yourself a retaining sling. Pukka. I've found if a fish turns belly up in the net, whilst you're doing as you said, getting camera etc, it's done more harm than good. Retaining slings keep the fish fully submerged so there's no chance of it gulping down massive quantities of air.

Would an 11ft feeder rod with 8lb line be ok for river fishing and for barbel fishing. The tip is 1.5oz. I can easily upgrade if needs be, I've never river fished but will definitely be trying out once I've done enough research. 👍🏻

A heavy feeder rod will do the job,use 8lb line for your main line.We started on the Severn using 6lb line but it was snag free.

@wulfiesmodels67634 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I don't like barbed, or micro-barbed, you only need barbless. If you are targeting Barbel, they set their own hooks and those lips don't drop them easily. There are some anglers out there using barbed on a heavy hook line resulting in mainline breaks and terminal tackle being left in fish, due to a lack of running rig and pre-tied (shop brought) hooklengths/hairigs being stronger than their mainline.
@stucrossland37193 жыл бұрын
Totally agree,i always use barbless hooks they do far less damage.

1:27 How can they be "overfished"? Almost nowhere in the UK are you allowed to take fish home, and no one in the UK eats freshwater fish, so they're not commercially fished either. How can any stretch of water in the UK be overfished?
@richardtuxford18124 жыл бұрын
When fish get caught repeatedly in a short space of time by multiple anglers, they become hook shy and much harder to catch.
