Really good point on insulating against your environment even in heat. Seems counterintuitive but makes a lot of sense if done properly. Mesh base layer would be ideal, to wick moisture and allow evaporation which is where all your cooling will come from. Then trap that cooler air in a semi-breathable outer layer that protects you from ambient heat and solar radiation. Just gotta fine tune the breathability to where you're not soaking wet but not getting too much hot airflow either. Cordura and aramid (Kevlar) should fit the bill pretty well for that abrasion-resistant semi-breathable fabric, especially if there's closable vents. So basically thin riding gear without armor. Vast majority of armor does nothing to prevent injury anyway.

When I was in Afghanistan our "frog" gear was perfect for the heat, made from cordura. I'm thinking about purchasing some for civilian use. You sound like you served, or are knowledgeable as a military enthusiast? Most people don't know much about those materials. I appreciate your feedback, you jogged my memory

@@theANGRYtango yeah sadly I never got the frog shirt in the reserves but looking at the tag, the arms are 65% fire resistant rayon (probably midweight cordura), 25% para-aramid (kevlar...ish?), and 10% nylon (also cordura). Definitely good abrasion material but likely on the thin side. the whole midsection is only fire resistant, not abrasion, was intended to be worn under a plate carrier. don't get why there's no moisture vents on standard issue gear with heat injuries being our country's biggest enemy combatant lol. as someone who crashes a lot, it's hands, knees, hips, and back that absolutely need good abrasion protection so I wouldn't look to frog gear to do much. mesh or wicking sport underlayer with an abrasion & tear resistant textile full body outer (with vents) is the way to go. can get pants and jackets for $30-50 each across amazon and ebay. again recommend against soft and hard armor, except maybe spine hard armor. soft armor does jack shit unless you're constantly taking small hits in dirt biking or stunting, or if the armor is massively bulky, which is on the market but rare. but yeah most of what I know is from riding safety research and a little from backpacking/hiking stuff.

Good point, my dumbass didn't apply that to riding motorcycles. So far the only thing I've seen and actually used was some Alpinestars leathers I used to have back in the day. They were still really hot during the summer months away from the ocean, even with heat vents. There are some companies coming out with new "breathable" kevlar reinforced apparel that looks decent, but no impact protections, I guess just don't highside? Thank you for your service homie.

@@theANGRYtango yeah I'll never do leather, except maybe glove palms as long as the top of the glove is really breathable but leather thick enough to protect is just going to be hot, wet, and difficult. a lot of adventure/touring gear is made of good breathable textiles. but yeah again "impact protection" is not shown to actually reduce any injuries (except for comically bulky soft armor that is expensive and hard to find) so you'd be better off not using it and have the extra airflow and evap. armor is only good to prevent consistent damage from repeated smaller hits, it'll do effectively nothing against a big one that causes a fracture. that's why it's used in field sports but not much powersports. the most important "armor" would be ankle support boots, back brace (hit or miss), and neck brace... and obviously helmet, which is its own can of worms. the rest is all about abrasion resistance and keeping your body temperature comfortable so you can focus on riding and your reactions and cognitive abilities aren't impaired. people forget about that last bit, body temp really makes a difference in safety.

Those bitches are so expensive but I'm sure they work great. Oregon doesn't get that hot and I'm usually good for a 30min ride by saturating my sleeves w water.

You’re a highlighter 🥰 But won’t you still get sweaty and gross in your layers? Is your heat more dry or humid? At least in Australia it’s the humidity that gets ya You and your wife on the same brain waves, that’s when you know you’ve made it aha All the billionaires with all their private plane trips will be much worse than what I could ever do in my lifetime ha

I took those sweats off so fast lmao. Yeah you'll be hot and sweaty, but you won't be AS hot. It's kind of humid, not exactly dry, Oregon has a crap load of streams, lakes and springs all over the place, so when it gets hot it gets muggy, but it's not like Florida or Japan

How hot does your summer usually get? Are you northern or southern Australia
@randomstranger8198

@@theANGRYtango I’m in Brisbane, the top right state, but like on the south of it, still one of the hotter states tho, our summer goes between like 80f on a good day to 107f on the bads and since summer is also our rain season the humidity is constantly there, you open the front door and you and being squished by the air haha, the humidity can very easily get over 90% My partner and I are going to move a few hours north next year to a small beach town, so hopefully the sea breeze will help

Jesus, that kind of heat should be illegal lol hopefully you're right about the sea breeze. When I was in Japan it was like that, not THAT hot but definitely that humid. My glasses would fog up instantly, sticky skin and all the girls hated it because of fucked up their hair haha
