For the China one: First, all the signage is very standardized in all major airports in China, so that was instantly a domestic Chinese airport based on the signs for gates, exits, etc. Second, all the people you saw were Chinese. The hairstyle on the younger guy is very Chinese if you live here, and that old guy at the end, same. The fact there aren't actually any foreigners here is a giveaway the opposite of what you were thinking (non-major city). The real clue though was the multiple stores with Sichuan (四川) in the name, especially the one with the ladies out front. Those stores indicate that you're in that province and they are selling touristy stuff for people to buy to take home/give as gifts wherever they are flying to. Chengdu is the capital of Sichuan and likely the only city that's going to have as modern an airport as you're seeing here. Very hard without knowing Chinese of course, but quite simple if you can. Also, side note that Shanghai does have two major airports if you're doing something like this again. Pudong (very east side of the city) is the bigger/major one, Hongqiao (more west, the one you picked) is also international but more domestic focused.
@agoston_feketeКүн бұрын
Even if you can't read Chinese, the logo of Sichuan Airlines was visible on the flight information panel. Sichuan Airlines flight to Shenzen is likely to be in Chengdu - although Chengdu also got two major airports, and in this case, it was the older and less busy one.

If you had zoomed in maybe it would have been possible to see the tail number that would have started with P2. But then you zoomed in on the beer advertisement and saw clear as day the bird of paradise. From there on it was just knowing that you were about to get completely wrecked.

Even without any knowledge of Chinese characters, it was clear given the near total lack of English signage that this airport was deep, deep inside China. No way in hell it was going to be Shanghai or Beijing fo example. That would've been enough for a decent guess, even checking major airports on the map for matching Chinese characters.
@TheZauer2 күн бұрын
This is for sure one of my favorite type of maps. Managed to beat you for two of the rounds even, but did horribly in two of the ones you did good in. Round 1: Clocked the South Asian looking clothing but my gut feeling wasn't as sure on India or Pakistan for some reason. The landscape wasn't looking the part for me, so I went for the greener more mountainous northern parts of Iran, close to Tehran and got 1751 points. Round 2: Recognized the Chinese, clocked that it had to be an airport in a major city in Mainland China, and it had to be a relative distance away from Shenzhen, so it could not be Hong Kong or Guangzhou, and I was not picking up on any Beijing vibes. On a whim I decided on Chongqing Airport, which happens to be close enough to Chengdu to net me 4268 points. Round 3: Flubbered this one big time. I was convinced that mostly all of Europe has official coverage, including the East and there are no truly obscure Street View countries in Europe. So based on the Christian cross, small spread out towns and mountainous landscape, I just guessed it would have to be some obscure place in South America. I had never seen a Paraguay round so I decided on the mountainous parts of Paraguay. 13 points, big oof. Round 4: Easy, got it spot on. Went to Dili and found it within seconds. It helped here to know that "masjid" is just another word for mosque. Round 5: Had to guess completely based on vibes like you did, but my vibes sensor was picking up more on the South East Asia or Oceania looking foliage. Though instead of noticing the off-road cars clue which would point to somewhere less built up like PNG, I decided on Brunei as a wild guess. 569 points, so not a huge win on distance but at least I was roughly in the correct region of the world.

Sitting in my bedroom, I did actually call PNG. Reasons - the cars looked very Australian, Lots of Toyotas, and a ute. The crocodile in the pool said it was more likely in Australasia than the Caribbean to me. The Germans had a bit to do with the founding of PNG from a western perspective hence the Heineken bits. And lastly, the place had the look of accommodations for a mining camp rather than a tourist operation. Not sure if that's what it is but just gave me that vibe.

Timor Leste is only obscure if you're not portuguese since it was a former portuguese colony. "Leste" is a Portuguese word that means "east" and was adopted after the independence to distinguish the now independent country from the west side of the Timor island, which is still part of Indonesia. Also, the Santa Cruz cemetery massacre, executed by the occupying indonesian troups on the 12th of November 1991, was all over the news in many countries, not just in Portugal.
