Thanks so much for the information, VDOT has a few videos with only music playing, no information on what is taking place, I ride through the tunnel about twice a week, I have seen the boring machine, my last trip it appeared that it might have been moved, not sure as it was still dark. I do hope someone is recording this project, history in the making. If I was younger I might consider applying for a job there. It will be a happy day to ride through the new tunnels, I will be the one blowing my horn the whole way through

I’ve been driving over the HRBT for 15+ years now and have been driving it twice daily for the past year and change for school. HRBT expansion projected to be completed in 2025. Im projected to graduate in 2025. If the expansion construction stays perfectly on schedule (which would be utterly mind blowing) I will get to drive the new bridge tunnel for roughly 6 months. 15 years of being stuck in back ups before the bridge, and I’ll be graduating and leaving Virginia mere months after that problem is finally solved😂😂😭

Adding lanes is not the answer to traffic congestion. Better public transit (trains, light rail) that is affordable is best for everyone.

There are only three routes connecting the Peninsula to Hampton Roads,: James River Bridge, HRBT, and MMBT. No light rail will fix the congestion. The main goal is to keep all shipping lanes open. Wikipedia has a good write-up on the thought process behind the bridge-tunnel network between Peninsula and Hampton Roads.
