The production value on this was simply amazing. I love the transitions between simulation and real-life. I also appreciate - as someone who's worked on oil drilling rigs and all sorts of heavy industrial areas - the mention of how hard the work is and the working condition for the crews. That part often gets left out of those videos, as they tend to focus more on the engineering and technical aspects of these projects. It's difficult to make someone who's never worked in those conditions appreciate exactly how loud, dirty, heavy, hard, dusty, and dangerous the work really is, day in, day out, from start to finish. You did a good job, well done, and well done to the crew!

I worked on the first TBM ever made by Robbins, U.S.A. 1958, 2.8 metres diameter. It was used on four tunnels in Tasmania and last used in 1987-1988 on the longest tunnel ever bored in Australia, Mangrove Mountain 10-6 kilometres, 1 in 100 up, with a best metreage of 326 metres in a six day week. Who ever would have believed that you could build and execute a TBM on a slope of 42 degrees? Phucken incredible feat of human endeavour and engineering. All I had on site were handtools so I did my best to get it right. I use my Sylvac Mikron to find the exact spot and mark it with a center punch. I measure and it's spot on. I grab the smallest drill bit they had in their tool box and drill a tiny pilot hole, measure, and it's spot on. Then I take a 2,5mm bit, drill a larger pilot hole, measure, and it's absolutely perfectly centered where it needs to be. So I take the 6,8mm bit, drill, measure and the hole is off by almost 3mm. Off into the trash the part goes. I went home early that day.

Oh! While you are here I have a quick question: Do you think that mixing graphene into our concrete will improve its durability? Also do you think the concerns about the impermeability of concrete, its carbon and energy usage, and its aesthetics are valid? Do you think these have ways of mitigation or will their flaws just have to be dealt with.

A truly masterfully made documentary, those transitions from animations to real life made a complex operation easy to understand....I never would have believed digging a hole could be interesting.

Man i feel so many emotions watching this as a micro-tunneller but mostly congratulations on the accomplishment! 25 degrees then 42 degrees, the resin concrete mix and the risky shotcrete. Man what an incredible achievement to tunnel this bad boy here. Harder than you can possibly imagine. Fantastic video Edit: Showed my wife and she is blown away by the video, "If anyone even did a fraction of that they are incredible"

One of the best videos I’ve seen on tunnel boring. What’s interesting is they must have planned for liner use by installing adjustable wedges with the gripper plates so the machine could pass through.

Awesome video, well done to everyone. Being now retired from Atlas Copco Mining & Construction group regular people just don’t understand what it takes to punch through 1 meter of rock and the hard work done by underground miners and how the working conditions just beat up the most well made equipment. Again we’ll done to everyone at the Marti Group in getting the JOB done 👍👍👍👍👍👍.

These men are the real heroes! Just imagine working for years 8 hours per day 300 meters deep down a mountain, 1km away from any exit, with all the noise, the freeze water, the dust, the danger of dying or loosing a limb, in a confined space, your back bent, no air, no light… I hope the are paid a whole lot. Thank you brave men 💪
